This lens is a solid performer and produces acceptable results throughout the zoom range. The close focus capability is handy and contributes to the utility of the lens. The lens is soft at the long end of the range, but stopping down will help. Given the range, size, and price, this lens is acceptable. It does not compare favorably to Canon L series lenses or to the 50 mm for that matter. If you are looking for high quality optics, you will have to look elsewhere.

I purchased for my first dslr (a nikon D80). When it arrived I comapared photos with a friend who has a D50 with a nikkor lens. Tamron are not so sharp as nikkor, but still a good lens.
Its light and seems to be strong.
I´m disapointed with the macro. The Minimum Focus Distance is 49 cm and the pictures hasn´t much details.

Good lens, light for its size. The only issue I found with it is the lack of image stabilization necessary for the longer range and handheld. Excellent on a tripod.

Great all around lens. Shorter, lighter and less expensive than similiar lens from camera manufacturer. Arguably sharper. Lens lock prevents creep. Buzzy focusing sound, focuses quickly. Inability to sharpen focus without switching to MF annoying.

Good lens for when you want to leave the cruise ship with only one and don't know what you will run into. 28-200mm particularly useful with film or full frame DSLR. Reliable auto focus due to f5.6 mininum at 200mm, which is about the max you can hand hold reliably and who carries a tripod with a walk around lens? Lightweight and compact. Great value.

I bought this lense as an upgrade to the kit lens for my Rebel XTi. Works well for the price range.
