The IMBSM Shoe mount does not accommodate the Nikon SB-900.

Let me start off by saying that this kit is an unbeatable value. The options that can come out of this are about endless. If you're an aspiring Strobist on a budget (like me), this kit was put together for you.
Lightstands: 3.5/5
I put a Vivitar 285HV, a Quantum Radio Slave II Receiver, and the umbrella on the lightstands. Thus there's a reasonable amount of weight on there. The stands do the job, but they're not outstanding. When I adjust the power, or switch something on/off, the stand and everything on it will be wobbling for a few seconds afterwards. FULLY extended will be even more wobbly. But they do the job. The air cushioning sure is nice to have for forgetful people like me!
Umbrella Brackets: 4.5/5
Everything about the bracket is extremely sturdy. There's no give or take anywhere with the bracket. The only thing I don't like is that you can't tilt the umbrella itself; thus the umbrella is always pointed straight outwards. You can only adjust the tilt of the flash.
Umbrellas: 3/5
The umbrellas are silvery reflector umbrellas. They don't do a very good job as shoot-through, because they're too diffused. They do a great job as reflector umbrellas, though. The removeable black backing works well. The actual construction of the umbrellas are weak. Very weak. The metal parts holding up the cloth are hollow and very thin metal, so it bends very easily. I already have one bent umbrella; luckily it still works how it should. I also wish the long beam was longer.
If you're on a budget, click "add to cart" right now, because this kit was made for you! If money isn't a factor, another product may suit you better.

This achieves what it advertises with some minor problems. First off, I realize this is not "high end" equipment and is directed at someone looking to save money. With this in mind the Impact kit is good enough. I mount Canon 580EXii flashes on the brackets and bounce the light off the umbrellas triggered wirelessly. Works well enough, but be aware of a few things:
1. The metal piece to mount the flash on will not fit 580's (probably any canon flash for that matter) unless forced-- and could damage the rubber at the base. My solution was to use the plastic mounts included with the the flashes
2. When using them outside with the umbrellas attached witht he slightest wind and they WILL blow over. Sand bags or some kind of weight (5-10lbs) is a must for outdoor use.
3. Every time I screw anything to secure the bracket to the stand, and bracket to the the umbrella-- the screw chews into the metal. I put gaffers tape on the metal thats getting messed. Might make the Impact set last a little longer. Kind of a minor point, but I'm obsessive about keeping things neat and functional, and chewed up metal is not acceptable.

Comments about Impact Digital Flash Umbrella Mount Kit:
After using this product for about a week (for professional and fun shoot), I totally love it.
Lets start with the umbrellas. They are simple and easy to use. They are convertible and come with umbrella bags to keep them clean. Its really just a plastic pouch, but I love them. They feel a little cheap and I can see that they might break easily if mishandled at all.
The umbrella holders are GREAT! They are hard plastic and have reversible brass threads to accommodate different screws. I love these holders!
The stands are a little flimsy if fully extended. Inside, it won't make a difference. In a windy environment, don't fully extend them and have some sort of weighted bag to keep them down. They are very secure and never slide.
I wish the feet of the stand had some sort of rubber footings. Otherwise, they can potentially slide and scratch up your floors. (I have old hardwood that's irreplaceable).
Truly a great value!!!

Nice product, light, portable. I am really satisfied of it. Great to begin. I really enjoy the black cover that is removable to transform the umbrella in a see-through.
I recommend everyone to buy this! Great bang for the buck.

To be completely honest. I set up the umbrellas and they look great. But I was under the impression that I was able to use standard lights wit the umbrellas. A big mistake, but a lesson learned. The light cost extra and but for the price its a great deal. I'll repost a comment once I test them wit a speedlite flash.

You get a lot for the money. the whole set up is solid and the air cushion stands protect your gear. The set comes with a remarkably complete set of instructions and it sets up in 3 minutes. Could include a bag to stuff it all in but otherwise a great value

This kit is a lot of fun to use. It's a good way to learn and experiment with "studio" style lighting. The quality of the equipment is good, but does not have a robust feel to it. The kit strikes the right balance between quality and price. My kit has held up well with no problems and has given me good photographic results.

Comments about Impact Digital Flash Umbrella Mount Kit:
so far I think the unit is a no brainer if you want to venture into off camera flash using speed lites. I mean its a hundred bucks well spent! is it heavey and sturdy? NO, but it does the job use a weight bag for added stability. the umbrellas could be better maybe larger or more versitle. its a silver lining umbrella I'd rather had the white shoot through. but you can always pick one up. the stand worked perfect with air cushion and all that! the flash/ umbrella holder was sent put together backwards. just switch it around about two seconds of work. if you can call it work. more like playing. I would buy it again for sure, its a great way to dabble in the art of off camera flash on the cheap and build from there. there is no doubt you can easily recoup two thirds of your money should you decide to sell it as you upgrade to better. that in itself makes it a worth while bargain! for me its lite easily transported and sets up easy. including a bag at an addition cost would make this a real deal and I infact purchased a bag seperately making this purchase even better!

I really appreciate the umbrella covers that let you experiment with shoot through and reflective. I used these for my first group shot with a SB-600 and a SB-700 and I was very pleased with the light diffusion. I was actually more happy with the stand height and umbrella size than I thought I would be.

Comments about Impact Digital Flash Umbrella Mount Kit:
I use this kit as a mobile studio solution and for my in-home studio. At first I was skeptical about buying this kit because of the multiple reviewers saying it was too flimsy, however after receiving the kit I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the equipment. However, it is worth nothing that the mounting bracket is shipped assembled upside down (easy to fix though). Add this to your cart if you are just starting out or if you need a good kit at a great price.

Comments about Impact Digital Flash Umbrella Mount Kit:
Though some might find the quality of the umbrellas a little too weak, I think it's right for the price. The stands are sturdy and hold their height and the position of the umbrellas. The shades are held to the white umbrellas by delicate caps that fit over the tips of the umbrella ribs. Overall, I find this set to be a great starter set and versatile because I can use the stands with my reflector kit.

I have had the chance to use these on 3 photo shoots so far and I absolutely love them. If you want real nice soft wrap around light and if you do portrait photography I highly recommend this umbrella set. I can't believe that this set up is only [$], its a no brainer. I do location shooting and just bring my speed lights with this set up and its fast and easy to set up and the photos come out amazing every time. If you're a pro or semi-pro shooter or just a crazy photo enthusiast get this set up, I promise you will not be disappointed. The umbrellas are too small for large groups but if you shoot one to three people on location these are perfect. They will act as a wind sail and fall over in the smallest amount of wind so bring sand bags or an assistant.

Excellent Kit! The two stands look very sturdy (considering the price) and well made. The umbrellas are also of very good quality and work perfectly. I've used them with a speedlight and the results are extremely good. A perfect starter kit!
