I recently used this at two graduations. Since I was not attending as a professional, I was forced to sit very far away. Using an EOS 50D, a 70-200mm f/4L lens without IS and a 580EX II with the FX3 Better Beamer attached. Sitting about 150 feet away and using the lens at full 200mm zoom, I was able to light the stage fully. I experimented with the unit before each event, adjusting the Better Beamer to cast an even wash across the entire stage. I had to reduce the flash exposure by a full stop with FEL because the flash was a bit strong. I set the zoom distance on the flash to 50mm and had no trouble getting great shots despite the fact that I had the older, non-IS version of the zoom lens; the flash allowed me to shoot at 100 ISO, 200mm zoom, f/5.5, and 1/320s exposure time for absolutely perfectly exposed, well-lit shots. Worth every penny!
It is well constructed, but don't expect metal or glass...that would be silly and would make the flash front-heavy. The lens is similar to a reading magnifier but accurately focused and of higher quality. Very lightweight and very small when packed.
I strongly recommend the Better Beamer for the 580EX II.

Focuses the light from the flash for long-distance. Works really well. More sturdy than I expected, but still not great - it's made of a fairly thin plastic. Also, I really don't want to stick velcro onto my flash head as recommended. (There are so many other accessories I need to attach to my flash.)
But, for the price, does exactly what it says it will.

We have this saying in he UK for products that perform exactly as you want - not sure that is in use in the US but it describes the "Better Beamer" FX3 exactly.
The first time I used it coupled with my Canon 7D and 500mm F4.0 rig I was stunned by the results. Awesome flash power at extended range.
It also performs admirably with my 400mm f5.6 handheld for shooting birds in woodland.
Have not found a downside yet, it isn't the most robust piece of kit, but then it folds down to nothing. Also, at this price I can afford another when this one gives out through use.

Works ok, little on the cheap side as far as construction which is why I gave it 4 stars. It is light and works as it should and really helps with wildlife at a distance when fill light is needed. Durablilty is yet to be seen.

This is a simple product to add to your flash with velcro. It can add up to 100Ft of distance.
My only complaint is that velcro is not as tight or secure and moves a little, but I can deal with it.

Comments about Visual Echoes FX3 Better Beamer Flash Extender for Use with Telephoto Lenses:
I use this for wildlife photography mostly when I'm in a forest, especially the rainforest. The most common subjects are birds. But, it's good for other species as well. Wildlife is almost always smaller and farther away than you think before looking through a lens. This device is also great for night drives when wildlife spotted by the 2mcp light is often quite far away.
If you have 300mm or more on your camera, this will help you get the most from your flash. It will not only project the flash much farther by concentrating it, but will also reduce the power necessary to light up the subject, typically extending battery life and reducing recycle times.
Lastly, if you had one of these from many years ago, the means by which it is attached to the flash has improved dramatically. It is now easy to attach and will always be properly aimed, assuming you get the correct model for your flash.
Warning to those with long zoom lenses. Be careful when this is attached not to zoom out too far as you may not be lighting up the whole frame for wider than 300mm. I have not tested the exact focal length at which the flash would not provide 100% coverage. I have, however, done the test of with and without having the flash set to 50mm, as recommended. It really does matter. It works better at 50mm than letting the flash zoom to 105.
This inexpensive, light-weight, simple device is a must for forest and night wildlife photography.

Physically, not much to this. But, mounted to the flash it feels solid and does its job well.
Tested it with a 500 mm lens and had good results. The flash didn't need to discharge and recharge nearly as much with the unit attached.
I did see retinal reflections from birds and chipmonks.

Though I have not used the flash extender in conjunction with my telephoto lens yet (because my need for it is not until next spring), it is by far the proven item for birders/photographers. I saw 100 plus of these attachments on various long lens cameras at Magee Marsh in Ohio during spring migration in May and it is definitely what birders/photographers use to give that added push to their flash photography.

This is a must for wildlife photography at night. It's been around for a long time and is much used by wildlife photographers for night shots.
Also useful for fill flash and eye catchlights for daylight wildlife photography - especially for birds.

I use it for bird photography to add some fill flash when necessary. It works well with my Canon 580EX II. Good product. It allows longer reach with any super telephoto lens above 300mm. It is adequately built at its price point. It is an indispensable tool for my bird photography. Recommended.

I occasionally photograph outdoor theatre and the actors outside of the spotlight can be difficult to expose. Well not since I found the Better Beamer! A lightweight, easy to transport and assemble tool. I can now light the actors on the back side of the stage with my 580EXII. I highly recommend this tool.

Comments about Visual Echoes FX3 Better Beamer Flash Extender for Use with Telephoto Lenses:
Used for birds and wildlife. Takes practice especially for closer subjects. Must continually adjust manual flash settings. But works very well once you nail it for a particular distance. They say set it at 50mm but again you should experiment depending on distance. Magnifier lens is pretty fragile. It would be worth another $5 or $10 if they included a sturdy case for it. I am repurposing a case used to hold a book of CDs that has hard sides.
I definitely would recommend it to anyone who shoots birds or wildlife.

Product works has promised, throws flash light far enough to help light birds in darkness, or even provide a little fill light when they are against a bright background like the sky. I purchased this with a carrying case as well, which I strongly recommend. Makes it much easier to travel with.
It came with instructions, recommended using 50mm Zoom setting.
