After plenty of research, I purchased this bag to use as my primary camera satchel for a year long trip through Southeast Asia. So far, so good. It's not obnoxiously large, but it's plenty big enough for my 40D, a couple of lenses and the odd memento that you pick up from the market. Will hold an average sized laptop (if stood on end.) Plenty of discrete pockets help to store additional accessories. It also has an additional cover located underneath the top flap to help keep out moisture & debris. The only con: the Logo. I is the only thing makes it look like a camera bag. Nothing that a swatch of duct tape or sew on patch can't remedy though.

For a messenger style bag it is just too bulky. Perhaps it is my mistake for not catching the dimensions and not seeing the whole picture. I would highly recommend Lowepro Slingshot 200AW if you are planning on using your camera while you use the bag. But, if you are hiking or just transporting gear and don't mind the bigger bag for all of your stuff I would recommend the NG-5162 Earth Explorer Medium Backpack also by national geographic. I mainly use this if I plan on taking my laptop with me. It is just as big as this bag.

I use this bag daily to transport Canon 5D to work, has enough room for laptop or Ipad. Loads of pockets and protection, love the fabric.

Inside padded area isn't big enough for NIKON D5100 with attached 55mm lens and 1 extra 300mm lens. Great general purpose carrying bag with maybe a smaller camera. I wouldn't consider my camera a large DSLR but it just doesn't fit well. Used bag to take to hospital when my daughter was born. Bag was handy and everything I needed to carry fit well except the camera.

Comments about National Geographic NG 2475 Earth Explorer Medium Shoulder Bag (Beige):
I have a Tenba Medium Messenger bag that is just about the same size as this bag, but I can get my gear (Canon 7D w/grip, Canon 70-200 2.8L IS II, Canon 24-105L, Sigma 17-55 2.8 OS, 580 EXII, cables, manuals, cards, batteries, etc.) in this bag fairly easily where I couldn't in the Tenba. This bag is just a little bit wider and deeper than the Tenba and I can get the flap closed over the camera w/grip on.
LOTS OF POCKETS! There is a pocket for just about anything.
The only thing that I have found that I don't care for is the closure of the flap. You have to thread a tab through a loop and then snap it closed. It's not very easy to do with 2 hands and the bag full, much less with one hand.

bought this bag for my d7000 and ep2 kit. now with the nikon converter for the ep2, i just have to carry two or three nikon lenses (70-300, 11-16, 85mm) and two lenses for the ep2 and i am more than covered!
the pockets are great for lens caps and cleaning cloths, whereas the front two pockets can be used for chargers and passports etc...
the bag allows only two cameras and a few lenses, so it never gets too heavy :)
i am glad that the laptop sleeve is for a small one, otherwise weight would be an issue :)
all in all, a bag that looks good, holds only the important stuff yet doesn't cost a fortune :)

I have the rebel t2i, the 70-200 2.8 II, the 50 1.4, and the kit lens 18-135. This bag fits everything perfectly with room to spare.
I was nervous about getting the bag because of the reviews about not enough padding for the equipment. The padding is far better than I expected. As long as I am not throwing the bag around im confident all my equipment will be fine. There is plenty of Velcro for additional padding if need be... Also... If you are super stressed about the padding. Just cut a small layer of memory foam and put it at the bottom.
Tha laptop compartment fits just about any 13" laptop or smaller. Going bigger than that might be a squeeze.
Overall, the build quality is excellent. The size is perfect and comfortable for hiking with a camera and a few lenses.... Plenty of storage pockets... It doesn't look like a camera bag... Plus the price isn't too crazy when compared to bags in it's range... I love this bag.

This is a great day bag. The medium size makes sure I don't overpack with lenses I won't touch. Perfect to wear over your shoulder while shooting.

I know some say you cant fit a large SLR in this bag .....NOT TRUE !! It fits SLR and LARGE lens and a medium lens and more.
I use this to carry a Canon 7D with Battery Grip, Canon 70-200mm 2.8 L IS 11 with hood, EF 17-40mm L USM with hood, Canon 580 EX 11, MacBook Pro 13", iPad, accessories like charger, lens cleaners and so on.
I also have the NG 1152 that attaches to the side of this bag for things like passport and ID. I could have have used the pockets for these small items....but I guess it couldnt hurt.

I have been looking for a bag to hold a canon 7D body with several lenses. e.g. 70-200mm f4.0 L lens, 10-20mm Sigma, canon 24-105 f4.0 L lens, plus canon 580 flash, diffuser, battery charger, memory cards, spare batteries. This bag holds it all and still comfortable to carry.

When my bag arrived I was doubtful it would be suitable for purpose but my doubts faded the first time out. True, it's not a bespoke camera bag as such but more of a travel bag with a camera insert that takes a large digital SLR camera and lens (Nikon D300 with 18-200 zoom) no problem at all. It also takes all my accessories needed for a short trip and would also take additional lenses etc. should you wish to tramp around with the additional weight.
To sum up, if you want a handy travel bag that will also look after your camera this is for you... but if you want to take all your camera stuff along then I suggest a more substantial and specialist bag would be in order.
Bottom line... I like mine and I'm glad I bought it, also it's size stops me from taking along excess stuff that I'd never use.

Comments about National Geographic NG 2475 Earth Explorer Medium Shoulder Bag (Beige):
For the most part, a lot of thought went into this bag. Very well made, plenty of room, pockets, smaller slots inside pockets, velcro, nice strap, etc. My only complaint is the only thing inside the main compartment that hints to the fact that it's a camera bag is the removeable camera pouch. It hooks to the back of the main compartment with velcro. This pouch holds my D90 and a SB-600 flash and that's it. This pouch only takes up about half of the space in the main compartment (there is plenty of room for another for lenses, etc - but a second is not included OR available - niether from B&H or from National Geographic). As a matter of fact I contacted NG directly and they have no idea. The guy I spoke to didn't even know who they had contracted to make the bags for them ~ dead end. So I have my D90 in this little bag velcro-ed over to the one side and I have all of this extra room for lenses or anything else to just roll around loose inside this big main compartment. In short, it needs more options for secure storage of lenses. On the recommendation of a guy here at B&H, I have ordered a couple of the Domke Lens Wraps. Supposedly those have velcro on the outside so I can stick them to a wall inside the main compartment so they stay somewhat "put". They aren't here yet, so I can't attest to the effectiveness of this solution. Again, this is a very nice bag, comfortable to carry, just make sure you know what's inside before you buy - and have a plan for extra lenses. This bag does not provide for that. I recommend it with reservations.

I am REALLY picky with my bags... Not the most picky, but top 90 percent. I love this bag. Durability, I cant speak much for it yet cause i havent had it long enough, BUT when it comes to overall materials, design, and such, its my favorite yet. NOW IF.... I didnt have more than two or three lens' i would say, its too big... If i had a lot more... maybe it would be too but... but i have two film bodies and 5 lens'. Is it big enough for all... No, of course not, BUT its big enough for sooooooo many different combinations... to bodies, tho or three lens? yeah, with the right ones... One bodie and four or more lens? probably... all i can say is what i use it for... I D80, connected lens, TWO separate lens.... a f2.8 80-200 mm with case.... other than that, a decent sixed laptop and more than a few accessories...
This would be my favorie bag even if it was a little to small, but it isnt. If you want a bag for a camera and lens or two, its too big.... two bodies and four lens, then its too small. If you want someting in the middle of the two, let me know... ite PERFECT

Comments about National Geographic NG 2475 Earth Explorer Medium Shoulder Bag (Beige):
The bag is well made and very practical for day trips. The downside for me is that the bag is much larger than I wanted and the National Geo logo on the front of the bag distracts from the bag's appearance. The logo makes the bag look like it was complimentary gift for attending a National Geo event or conference.
The bag is large enough for 1-2 SLRs, extra lens, gadgets and a small laptop. I wanted a bag just for my photo adventures (SLR & extra lens). I have ordered the small bag and will use the medium bag as my carry-on bag for air travel. It would have been helful if the bag had been pictured with a person or with a camera.
I am very interested to see how the light weight kemp fabric wears compared to the heavy canvas Donke bags which I used previously.
Overall a good buy especially if you are looking for a photo equipment plus bag!

Perfect bag. Many different places to hold all types of different kinds of stuff. Before mine was stolen in NYC on friday I used it every day. At one point I had inside; Canon XTi w/vertical battery grip, 18-55mm lens, 100-300mm lens, a tripod, a table-top tripod, and two magazines. And that was just the indide pouch. Four other pocets have room for batteries, chargers, notepads, biz card, pens, keys, etc... And still able to navigate swiftly through slim NYC speakeasys!
The strap is fine but like all others slips after time if the bag is carrying a lot of weight. At full strap extension the bag rested uncomfortable against my thigh above my knee. Should not be an issue for most others.
Don't let it stop you from getting it!
Dont have any of the other sizes but have seen them in the store. Very cool looking bags.

Comments about National Geographic NG 2475 Earth Explorer Medium Shoulder Bag (Beige):
I have myself a the Canon Rebel XTI and have just recently purchased the Canon HV30 and to my surprise , this bag fits them both PERFECTLY. Even though the XTI is a smaller camera, it has much more room to fit larger cameras such as the 40D or even the 1D series.
There are two compartments there that is supposed to be one for the camera/camcorder and the other for the charger/extra battery packs, but I use one for the camera and one for the camcorder. There is plenty of space inside for your chargers/extra battery packs.
However, this bag does not stop there. You can also fit your laptop in very easily. It's like putting on a glove and I have a 17" Compaq.
The bag may seem big but to my surprise it is not big at all. I can wear it and not be ashamed. No one knows that I have thousands of dollars of equipment in there like other bags do.
This bag is a must get!
