  • Canon 380EX, 420EZ e 430EX
  • Metz e 54MZ-3/4
  • Minolta 3500xi, 5200, 5400
  • Nikon SB-24, 25, 26, 28, 28DX
  • Olympus FL40, FL50 e G40
  • Sunpak e MZ440AF

I bought this specifically to use in real estate photography. I shoot almost exclusively with a 10-20mm lens and don't have time to set up lighting equipment or multiple flashes for each room in these high end homes. Previously I used natural light plus every light in the room. this presented with both WB and high contrast problems and shooting at those angles with either the on-board flash or a good flash unit was impossible. I tried using bounce and a single umbrella neither work. This light sphere did the trick. Using it in combination with natural light and the room light produced even light throughout the shooting angle and natural colors became predictable without over powering the warm glow the room lighting produced. It cut my shots by 2/3. I no longer have to use bracketed exposures. This cut time from my selection work flow and time is money. As far as construction goes the unit is solid but then it's just a bit heavier than good Tupperware. It fits the flash unit but can come off if bumped and its a bit awkward but not nearly as awkward as an umbrella flash bounce attached to the flash. Is it worth the money? The answer to that is a resounding yes. For about [$] I made a quantum improvement in the quality of my work and cut both my on site and production time. What more can you ask for. I would recommend this product to anyone shooting indoors who just can't seem to get the lighting right.

The light is bounced in all directions so when using a flash with limited output to start with the loss of 75% or more from this diffuser makes no sense at all. The top cup does not stay on and the weight of the unit puts a lot of stress on the hot shoe of the camera (I had to send a camera in for servicing to repair the damage from using the Fong on my strobe) as it sits on top of the flash and adds wight 8 inches away where it can exert a lot of leverage.

Not compact for storage when not in use in a camera bag. This is one of numerous reasons to get a LumiQuest or similar collapsible diffuser or reflector.

Far better to cut off the top of a Stoffen diffuser or the one that usually comes with a flash from Canon or Nikon. Even just bouncing the flash off a side or rear wall or off the ceiling will provide better and softer lighting.

I realize that Fong has photographed weddings but his flash accessories are really not well designed nor serve any real purpose. The LumiQuest flash accessories work better, take less space, and cost a lot less.

Comments about Gary Fong P3 Lightsphere II Inverted Dome Clear Diffusion System:

I wanted a clear Lightsphere for my 430EX II. I went through B&H chat and they told me the only option was to get a frosted one or the Universal one. I should have listened! I then called Gary Fong's company directly, and they told me this model would fit my flash, so I ordered it. Needless to say, I have to return this Lightsphere as it fell off the flash every two seconds and bounced across the room. I believe it may fit the 430 EX, but not the II version. Still giving the product 5 stars because it is a great product....just not the right size.

I'm a Real Estate photographer. I take interior and exterior photos of homes for advertising purposes. The lighting conditions for the interior shots are often terrible, forcing me to return (sometimes more than once) to get suitable pictures.
This diffuser allows me to take perfect shots every time! It's like a miracle, considering what I've gone through in the past to achieve quality pictures. Everyone who takes interior photos should have one.

This is a great addition to my camera bag. I use flash primarily as fill flash and this diffuser does a great job of softening the light and evening it out. The downside is that it doesn't stay on the flash very well. I added some velcro to my flash and the diffuser and that's worked great so far. I would definitely recommend this product.

It is a little bulky as the other reviewers have described, but it is easy to break down and cram into your photo bag because it is made our of a highly durable, flexible plastic.

            It works great. Highly recommend.

This lightsphere is the best diffuser i've ever used. From personal fun shots, to shooting wedding and other special events this Lightsphere has completely changed the way I shoot with a speedlight. I will never use the speedlight without it...inside or out. Great for filling in shadows on a sunny day. Fantastic for lighting up dark spaces with a warm diffused light. Images look natural, well lit, and flattering...especially when doing formal portraits.

I was at a friend's wedding a few weeks ago in Lake Tahoe, CA. During the reception the professional wedding photographer was using a small cap diffuser at a 45 degree angle on a Canon 430ex flash. I couldn't help but look over his shoulder at the quality of the pictures. After a while I had to say something because the pictures had lots of hard shadows and overexposed areas. I went over to my photo case and got out the Lightsphere. I told the guy to give it a try. Bingo! All the photos from there on out had soft shadows, even lighting and looked great. After the reception the guy couldn't say enough good things about the Lightsphere.

I finally had a chance to shoot with the new Lightsphere, I did a wedding this past weekend, and couldn’t wait to put it on. The pictures turned out great, but be ready to do a light post processing, because at times, because of the situation, the picture came out just a bit dark, but for the most part it worked as claimed. If I have one problem with the Lightsphere, is that it kept falling off my flash, though it was suppose to be able to hold the weight of the camera by itself. No way it could do that, and kept falling to the floor as I walked around the hall taking pictures. The pictures did look every natural and I think it did its job well. It’s a keeper.

Comments about Gary Fong P3 Lightsphere II Inverted Dome Clear Diffusion System:

There is no other product like this. Most other diffusers are either too small or act like sails in the wind. The unit very thoughtfully designed and almost indestructable. My 2 reasons for giving it a lower rating are that they are a bit heavy/awkward and the dome can too easily pop off. Note they can make a extra layer of protection for smaller SLR lenses.

I gave it 4 out of 5 simply because it slides off my flash very easily and I have to rig it to stay on. My Canon 430 flash swivels easily and the diffusser tends to go flying. But the diffusing on the photos is beautiful. I love the look and feel of it!

Comments about Gary Fong P3 Lightsphere II Inverted Dome Clear Diffusion System:

I came across mention of this in my review for a Canon lenson B&H. Went to Gary Fong website and watched his video clipon the product. Sounded a bit good to be true but with B&H'ssatisfaction/return policy, decided to get it. I am glad Idid. It works - like magic. Guy is a genius for inventingthis.

                    Expertise: Serious hobbyist

Problems Encountered: It is big in size - not collapsible. But, for what it does,I have no qualms making room for it in my camera equipment bag.

Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Regular plastic diffuser.
