The Audio-Technica 1800 Series provides a professional, dual wireless portable solution, while addressing the issues of portability, function and cost.
The 1800 Series wireless microphone system delivers the flexibility of a dual wireless system in a single compact and rugged, camera-mounted receiver. This system includes the ATW-R1820 dual receiver and 2 ATW-T1801 bodypack transmitters. Other configurations are also available.
The ATW-R1820 dual receiver is designed with 2 internal, True Diversity UHF receivers with an internal Antenna/Splitter amplifier. Dual balanced outputs enable incoming signal to be mixed, or independently assigned to each output. Independent audio level controls provide flexible audio mixing and monitoring possibilities. The compact ATW-R1820 is powered with six AA batteries, one of the internal receivers may be turned off to preserve battery life.
The ATW-T1801 bodypack transmitters are compact and rugged with 4-pin HRS connectors. The input is switchable between mic and line signal. Selectable Hi/Lo RF output power enhances range when needed and a 2 color power/mute LED indicates transmitter status. The transmitter is powered with 2 AA batteries for up to 9 hours.
Additional features of the 1800 series include 996 Auto-Scanning frequencies, simultaneous operation of up to 10 systems, back-lit LCD, soft-touch buttons and metal components.

I work in the DC area so interference can be a serious problem. Frequency agility has solves any issues on that score.

good value for the money. I've found Audio Technica to be a good choice for those of us without an unlimited budget.

I tested this with another professional sound mixer in LosAngeles, and while we were both impressed with the price wewere underwhelmed with the performance. Range and noisefloor were our main issues. While it is probably fine forreally low budget reality stuff, weddings etc, I could notstop obsessing on the noise floor. Also the noise wouldpump up a little bit while transmitting/receiving. Withsome tweaking of output levels etc we got it running prettyquiet but by then I could not stop obsessing about the noise.Keep in mind I am used to using a Zaxcom or Lectrosonic 411as a camera hop, so I am comparing it to systems that costwell over twice what this one does and have more powerfultransmitters. But my final opinion would be that they gotclose but I wouldn't trust it for broadcast/film work wherethe sound quality would be scrutinized by post.
Expertise: Professional sound mixer for television/film
Problems Encountered: Noise floor was too much, also increased audibly whiletransmitting/receiving. Underpowered transmitters, receiverseemed well built but transmitters were too plastic.
Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Zaxcom Stereo link
Items I Recommend: XLR cables, lots of AA rechargables.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-1821 Dual Wireless Microphone System:
I use this for audio for video with my videography business. It works very well, but when you are using both inputs on the receiver the batteries on the receiver only last me about 4 hours. Great features include: dual antennas, one receiver can handle 2 sources, headphone output on the receiver (nice for DSLRs which don't have a headphone output), frequencies are very configurable, you can choose to keep the 2 sources on separate tracks or mix them together - effectively opening up and additional input on your cam so you record 3 sources if you have 2 XLR inputs, body pack transmitters are light and work well.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-1821 Dual Wireless Microphone System:
I've used these for recording documentary interviews. The controls and general feel are quite good. I was very disappointed with the background noise level, about 12dB higher than the noise level on a far less expensive wired lavalier. I understand that electronic noise is an issue with wireless units, but for the price of these items I would have expected better.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-1821 Dual Wireless Microphone System:
I purchased this system to replace one that gave us nothing but problems. It was an excellent investment. This wireless system has saved us from trouble many a time, even when ambient conditions would have adversely affected the sound. We are very pleased with it, and would definitely recommend it as a top choice. The kit we purchased came with a hand-held microphone as well, which was also very good. We were able to use it for clean interviews in very noisy environments.

Needed a solid mic for EFP that was frequency agile. This product fits the bill perfectly. Always had good luck with A/T's

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-1821 Dual Wireless Microphone System:
Like the other reviewers I can't get over the modulation noise that I assume stems from the unit's compander. It's not as noticeable using the inexpensive supplied mic, but after adding a Tram TR-50 it really stands out. Very disappointing.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-1821 Dual Wireless Microphone System:
I have more than 40 years as a film and video DP so I know a little bit about good audio, and I have used and trusted AT mics on everything from broadcast interviews, sports and documentaries, to feature films. We tested this unit against other brands costing as much as $1000 more, and the ATW-1821 was the clear winner every time. Anyone who says they get noise out of this mic simply doesn't know how to use it properly. If you want a good, dependable wireless system, with fantastic sound quality, then you need to buy the ATW-1821.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-1821 Dual Wireless Microphone System:
I completely second everything Dan said about this wireless set.
I bought one of the dual channel sets for myself after researching up on it and thought it would be perfect for what I was looking for, but after using it a bit on some projects I could not stand the self noise (the "companders" working?) that these have when being used.
What's worse is that the noise keeps changing/pumping in and out with the dialog and audio going through the TX/RX(wouldn't be near as bad if were a consistent noise, but it's not and pretty noticeable).
I currently have mine in for repair being checked for defects, but from what I have read and been told so far, this is just the way these wireless are(would be ok for wedding and low budget stuff, but definitly not for high quality indoor-low background noise to cover up TX noise stuff)...

Comments about Audio-Technica ATW-1821 Dual Wireless Microphone System:
I have over 20 years of professional video experience as a DP and a producer of TV, documentary and corporate video. This Audio Technica package is a Godsend. I like the quality of the construction - and absolutely love the functionality of the ENG dual receiver. Most of all, though, I was impressed with the incredible tonal quality of the sound that we recorded. We had no problems with noise. Our range was not tested at an extreme level since we have been shooting run and gun plus interviews. This is by far the best system I have owned - especially for the money.
