I bought this for the Pentax K5. It was easy to install and fit well. I bought it to be able to see the viewfinder image better.

While it does what it says, magnify, it doesn't make the image easier to see. That's because you still have to push your eye right up against it. And if you're outside, ambient light still enters your eye, making it harder to see the viewfinder anyway.

Instead, I obtained an older, circular rubber eyecup that extends out about 1/2" from the eyepiece. To attach it to my K5, I also had to obtain something that the round, rubber eyecup could slip over, yet could then slide onto the rectangular eyecup-holder of the modern Pentaxes. This works great. The real problem isn't the size of the image in the viewfinder, but seeing it clearly outdoors.

It would be nice if Pentax or someone sold this as an individual item.

good magnification, good eye relief, sharp. I don't even notice that it's not the original viewfinder: it's much better!!

I was having a hard time getting critical focus for my Pentax K10d and so I turned to the O-ME53.and am so glad I did.......I can see clearly now!..........not to get campy with a reference to a well known song but it really does help!

I really couldn't see the 1.2 times magnification. Certainly not worth the price, and to add injury to insult my original eyecup does not fit the camera as snugly as it did before I removed it to try this piece of junk.

Added this for use with manual lens- helps significantly for focusing and improves my ability to see with eyeglasses. No cons yet.

Being as my eyes are starting to fail with my age increasing I found the Magnifying eye cup a a very useful help in making it a lot easier to see clearly the information and detail that I need while composing a photo. Great product overall.

This product does as advertised. I am using it on my Pentax K2000/k-m and it gives a little boost to the magnification that really helps with the small viewfinder. It also keeps your nose off the camera screen.
Comes in very handy when doing macro work. Can't wait to pop this thing on my K-5 that is in the mail right now. Thanks B&H.

I scoured the Internet for ways to improve the viewfinder of my Olympus E-620 and the Pentax O-ME53 was the recommended solution. I have never used a viewfinder magnifier and I was initially hesitant due to the added optical elements in the line of sight, but after modifying the magnifier for my camera (a process which took several hours of very precise cutting and filing), I was surprised to see a very nice improvement in viewfinder size.

I wear glasses and the magnification does require me to adjust the viewfinder diopter as well as move my eye to see the viewfinder info display. Not a big deal. My typical subjects don't move fast.

A comparison of the viewfinder size between the E-620 with the O-ME53, without the O-ME53, and my other camera (an Olympus E-410) does lead me to the conclusion that the viewfinder magnifier is a great improvement.

There's no distortion to the 80% of the central viewfinder that I'm concerned with.

The OME53 eyecup enables me to better view and focus the shot. It's especially helpful as I wear glasses and prior to installing this guy it was uncomfortable using the original cup...plus my rather long nose is no longer smusched up against the LCD display. Nice improvement to my K-X although overpriced given the material and construction.

The magnification is not drastic. It helps just a little. It does, however, keep your nose off the LCD. So that is much better.

If you use the viewfinder for every shot the small improvement in the size of the image in the viewfinder is worth it. If you really press your eye up against it, there is no meaningful vignetting. I noticed no change in image brightness.

The magnification on this is 1.2x magnification. Attached to my Pentax K-x which has 0.85x magnification that translates to an image that is around 25% larger. It's large enough that when I first attached it to the camera I found myself leaving both eyes open. It makes focusing much easier and I can see everything including the bottom data bar just as easily as through the regular eyecup.

I bought this as a low-price substitute for a split focus screen and it's good enough that I'm not feeling very pressed to get the split focus screen until I have extra money. Makes focusing manually MUCH easier.

It also gives a nice little extension out away from the camera body. I use my left eye when I'm composing a shot and my nose would sometimes bump the live view button. Hasn't happened since I got this eyepiece.

I purchased the viewfinder because I wear prescription glasses. The viewfinder allows me to frame the shot without mashing my nose against the LCD. Also, I see a bit more detail due to the magnification. This is useful when using manual focus.

The viewfinder is built by Pentax so it fits their DSLR cameras perfectly.

The downside to the magnification is viewing in camera settings. You may need to shift your viewing angle slightly to see the shutter speed and other information at the bottom of the frame.

All things considered, it's a must for prescription glass wearing photographers

I use it when I have my 650-1300 manual focus lens on. Helps me make sure that I am in proper focus before I take the shot.
You have to remember that Image in the view finder is farther away than it appears

I should have replaced the original eyecup long ago. This one provides a view much more suitable for manual focusing and leaves the diopter correction slider more accessible.

I got this because of the rave reviews on a Pentax forum, but honestly I can't see any difference between it and the eyepiece that came on the camera. It does keep my nose off the LCD screen, it just doesn't magnify. I would not get this product again.

This replacement eyepiece is great because it enlarges the viewfinder image enough so I can better see for manual focusing. I wish it were larger, but it is enough of an improvement to make a difference.

It also keeps me from smudging my LCD screen with my cheek because it sticks out farther than the original.

Good for macro photography.

This is my second magnifying eyecup. The first was purchased for my K100D and then shifted to my K-7 when I traded up. When I acquired a backup K-10D, I immediately found that I was missing my old "friend".

The magnifier makes those last minor critical focusing adjustments a breeze, especially for those of us with older eyes that don't adjust the way they used to.

An additional benefit for the extra thickness with the magnifier is that it is easier to get a light tight fit against your eye, while at the same time eliminating the need to press your nose so tightly to the LCD Screen. Or at least that's the experience for those of us who can inhale copious amounts of air at any time.

I have never had any trouble in being able to seen the entire screen, or all the additional instrumentation while using the unit.

I would also note that in this case it works well with the Camera Armour I purchased for my K10D. I was a little afraid that it wouldn't all fit, but I was wrong in this case.

In short, for me its a "must have" addition for my cameras. And B&H has by far the best price around. The only reason this isn't a five-star review is that Pentax should include this as a standard feature, and not make you pay more.

It's a great help in determining focus. Since I can still see everything the camera's viewfinder provides, I leave it on all the time. The only trouble I had with it was realizing that its camera-side small rubber 'ears' would have to be bent for it to fit on. Regardless, doing so was no problem and no detriment to its functionality.
