Before I start, let me say that the focus on this camcorder is very good... It is always on point and the subject is always focused. This cam does not get blurry often like some cams that hunt or breath a lot to get a steady picture.I don't know if that has to do with the Optical Image stabilizer or the Leica lens. It doesn't matter to me, as long I don't have to worry about adjusting it myself. It makes sense having the focus dead on because there is no focus ring on this cam (the ring around the lens is just to unscrew the lens hood). But any filters you have can go directly on the lens hood (no need to remove it).The LCD Screen feels solid and it is easy to view in the sunlight. The body of this cam has a nice design, and it seems smaller than it looks once you put it in your hands. The cardslot is on the bottom of the camera but that is alright with me (might be a problem for tripod users though). The outdoor video is good. The objects look solid, the greens and blues are a little richer and there is no bleeding from the reds like I would sometimes see on single chip cams. Now, don't get me wrong...I think this is a good camcorder, but for a three CCD Camcorder I was expecting better performance from the outdoor video. I have seen outdoor video from the Sony HC96 (1/3 Inch single chip Cam) that looks as good. Though the Sony does have some focusing issues now and then. As far as indoor shooting, the GS320 is darker because each CCD is only 1/6 of an inch. But if you go into the Basic settings and select the Low light (candle Icon) the picture will brighten up. This will add some noise to the image but it will look as bright as most 1 chip cams with a single 1/6 or 1/4 inch ccd (but not as bright as a single 1/2 or 1/3 inch ccd). In the manual, the lowlight mode is rated at 8 lx ( the Majic pix mode is 1 lx but it can become very blurry)The still pictures are okay, but if you zoom into them on a PC you will be disappointed. Each CCD is 800,000 pixels total, but one single Megapixel chip usually produces better pictures. Plus, there is no flash on this cam, so taking pictures with it indoors can be a pain. I gave the GS320 3 stars on features because there is no built in mike and the shoe near the viewfinder is cold. So, anything you place on the cam needs its own power source. Also, there is no digital to analog conversion with this model. However, it is still possible to copy a recording from a Digital 8 camcorder to the GS320 using the firewire port on the back. For the price, this is a good camcorder. With the switch from tape based cams to DVD, Hard disc and now flash memory, I think this cam is a good buy if you want to use MiniDV and you are on a budget. There are always better camcorders out there, if you are willing to pay the price. But if you want to spend less, then I think this is your best bet, compared to the lower end models available.
Problems Encountered: No built in flash (for indoor pictures)Video is dark in Auto mode in rooms without over head lightingUnable to manually adjust the shutter below 1/60 (only goes to 1/30 and lower in Majic pix mode)Zoom mic is okay, but there is no mic jack on the camcorderNo focus ring (have to focus with joystick)

I originally wanted to purchases 5 more Panasonic PV-GS180 Cameras for the Film classes I teach. I was told that camera was discontinued and that this was the upgraded camera. So I placed the order. However, This is more of a downgrade even though it is $100 or so more than the previous model. #1 problem-no mic input. Why do you have a cold shoe mount if you cant plug anything up???? #2 problem Inputs. The DV and USB inputs are located behind the battery!!! You have to take the battery off and plug the unit into the wall in order to import your footage to the computer. SO instead of just taking the camera with you, you now have to carry every single cable they have. #3 AV output. Its that fancy jack that if you lose the cable you will have to replace. NOT the standard AV out cable like the wonderful predecessor. Why go fancy now, it doesn't help the video quality, just makes the consumer mad. I LOVE PANASONIC. AND I LOVE THE PREVIOUS MODEL. The PV GS180 Is great, the DV input is located inside the LCD screen which allows easy access! LOVE it. As for Video quality and I am sure this is a great camera. JUST trying to figure out how they added poor design, took away needed parts and charged a higher price for this camera.

Comments about Panasonic PV-GS320 3 CCD Mini DV Camcorder:
This mini DV camcorder is the first camcorder I have ever owned. I purchased it to experiment with single channel video art. So far the PV-GS320 has worked very well. The video quality is very clear. The controls are very simple. Ergonomically, the camcorder feels too small for my hand--the buttons are too close together for my fingers--, but that is a personal fit issue and I would not expect it to weigh heavily on one's purchasing research.

For a start out camcorder, this is great. I bought it to do short films but come to find out, it doesn't have a mic import so you have to use the on board mic (Which is kind of bad). This camera shoots in wide screen and the picture quality is great for the price.

Comments about Panasonic PV-GS320 3 CCD Mini DV Camcorder:
I use this product for shooting all types of motorcycle riding; off-road, touring, etc. It is light weight, great picture quality, quick on the uptake, easy controls, large view screen and easy to store when space is limited. I specifically purchased the product because it records to tape, making it the best choice for me in all conditions.
The downside to this product for some may be that it records to tape. It is a personal choice. Battery life is short, and I had to purchase several extras to meet the demands I place on the camera. Otherwise, great product.

I use this cam mainly for home videos. The picture quality is great. 3ccd at this price cannot go wrong. Comparable Sony is almost double the price.
3 mp still photographs are pretty good and an added advantage.

This is a great product for it's price. It's very simple to use and settings are easily adjusted. one thing about this camera that i dislike is the viewfinder, which is unable to move up and down; only outward (I find this very annoying). picture quality is great for the price!

Comments about Panasonic PV-GS320 3 CCD Mini DV Camcorder:
I’ve bought it to try to do some car shootouts. It’s great in specs, but not so great in a real life use. If you’ll try do make some home video its great, nice color range, good auto focus, optic image stabilizer works perfect, microphone zoom – great idea, good battery time – even on standard included battery. Then if you’ll try to use it in professional way – you’ve experience some problems – white balance is not actually manual, camera processor always trying to fix some problems with light and colors – which is never, exists. The focus, manufacturer says in specs that is a manual available, of course it is available, but to set it up with this tiny joystick takes years, because of the small viewfinder, and if you want to use image stabilizer, you have to switch focus to auto, which is ruins all previous settings. But, there is bright side! To capture some still scenes it is great, 3CCD matrix gives you colors, speed, and lines that looks very professional, like on real pros camcorders. So if you need camcorder for home use – great. If you plan to use in pros way – think, sometimes if you need small 3CCD camcorder there is no other way and GS320 one of the best.

I picked this camera up to make some DIY music videos and shoot some fun times with friends. The quality seems very nice, good picture/color and whatnot. I like the 16:9 shooting, and all the consumer feature that compensate for not being an amazing camera man. A few things:It DOES NOT come with a firewire cable. This is really stupid because you need one in order to capture the video to a computer. Also, the hand strap doesn't hold the camera against your palm, you must use your fingers too. I can get deal with it, but if you want a truly "hand held" type camera don't get this one. If you attempt to hold it without using your fingers it will flop to the side. [...]And the tripod seems to be more or less the cheapest one you can get. Oh, and it needs a microphone input.

Love the camcorder. Works well in low light.
You will need to buy an extra battery. I have a monopod I use with it and that really helps keep things steady, plus its nice to not have to hold it all the time.
It does have IS- but still I would recommend some sort of tri-pod.
The remote that comes with it is great.
I also would consider buying a microphone as the sound part isn't that great. But for the price this is a very good buy.
I do hate the joystick and the on off button- they are way to small.
So because of that I give this a 4 star rather then the 5 star rating. But good picture, light weight and works well in low light make this worth it.

Comments about Panasonic PV-GS320 3 CCD Mini DV Camcorder:
Its simple but very effective. After doing a lot of research and figuring out my needs I started listing down the cameras that fit both my budget and needs. I have talked to many many selse reps and sales techs and analyzed all the information critically. Finally, I came up with two camcorders that fit my needs....The Panasonic PV-GS320 and the Sony DCR-HC96 (very lightly used). Fortunately, I had the opprotunity to test both cameras in real life situation. While I liked the picture qualities of the GS320 better, I found the Sony's overall performance and features to have an edge over the GS320. But, as becasue the Sony was an older model and did not come with any warranty I had to pick the GS320.
I am very happy with the performance and picture qualities of the GS320. It is very simple and easy to operate. the ports (behind the battery) is a source of annoyance but every camera comes with some negatives. I am glad that GS320s negatives are not in its picture quality and performance.
I heard a lot of complaines about the fact that this camera does not have the option of attaching an external microphone. But seriously, if you are buying this camera for home videos how many of us would need an external microphone (that what i use it for, our trips and indoor/outdoor activities with kids). If you want to use it professionally or do fancy stuff, buy a different camcorder.
This camera takes excellent videos bot indoors and outdoors. The picture quality is really amazing. after I edited my videos from a couple of summer trips I showed it to a few of my family members. they were all very impressed. one of my sister in laws went out and bought this camera immidiately after that.
I see that Camcorders with MiniDVs are going out of the product lines of many major manufacturers (at least at low proice point). And, although they are keeping some MiniDV camcorders in the line, the feature set and technology of these entry level MiniDV cameras are going down every year. So, I am glad that I could buy a decent MiniDV camera that produces great output. Although, the ergonomics and placement of the ports could have been much better.

Comments about Panasonic PV-GS320 3 CCD Mini DV Camcorder:
I purchased this camera based on a suggestion from a B & H employee, and so far I have been quite pleased. My wife and I wanted to have something that would work well for capturing moments of our son as well as having for our recent trip to Germany. It worked great for what we needed on our trip.
Pros: good video and sound quality without being an HD camera; functions of camera are quite easy to navigate.
Cons: battery life is only about an hour, and the same replacement battery is quite expensive.
