Sony VCL-HA07A 25, 30mm 0.7x Wide Angle Converter Lens
The Sony VCL-HA07A wide-angle adapter screws into the front of the camcorders zoom lens to provide an even wider angle of coverage (0.7x) for those times when you are shooting in a confined space or for shooting scenery. The wide-converter is useful indoors as well, since you'll be able to fit more of your subject into the picture frame.

The thread adapter works great, but I would make it so it can be semi-permanently attached to the lens, so you don't have to use the wrench. I would buy it again. What a difference it has made.

This conversion lens brings much more scenery and people into the shot but has a nasty side effect: With the optical image stabilization engaged on the camera and its zoom set to full wide, you see black around the edges of the shot whenever you move the camera! To make matters worse, you don't notice this until you playback your video. **sigh** (Yes, I did have "wide conversion lens" selected on the camera.)

I was very impressed by the lack of distortion created by this lens, but that image clarity may be to blame for its large size and minimal conversion (0.7). If you need to add just a little width to your field of veiw, this is a great lens. Up close, don't expect too much.

I bought this lens converter for shooting a large marching band. It widens the field of view quite a bit. It does not seem to distort the image through the zoom range or eat up the light as my old lens made the video considerably darker and fuzzy when zoomed in. I dropped the brand new lens on the concrete the first day but it just bounced an still worked perfectly.
Can't beat it for the price!

I use this lens with my canon m300 to shoot family video. It really allows you to capture more objects or people in the view of the shot. The only minor, and I mean minor negative might be that it is big. HD camcorders are getting smaller and smaller so it is noticeable. But it still looks cool

i bought this piece coz i like lanscape photographing, so i think why not go wide with my camcorder also. it turns out my camcorder already has a pretty wide angle lens. and i don't have too many chances to use this. plus, you have to take the UV lens off every time you try to connect this one. so think about the occassions that you will need a very wide angle lens before you buy this one.

Bought it for my Sony HDR-XR150. When attached to the camera itself (no in between UV lens or anything like that) I don't notice any dark spots along the edges at the widest angle of the frame as some have said. Picture stays very clear. It is excellent for "opening up" interior room shots. Able to set the camera on a tripod to film a family gathering (e.g. Christmas), rather than needing to pan the room to get everyone in. Only real con so far is the color doesn't match my camera, but honestly doesn't look that bad.

Pro: High quality glass lens. Good, clear optics.
Con: Adapter rings make contact with the camera housing so lens cannot be fully screwed onto the camera body. The contact causes binding in the threads which may lead to the threads being stripped out of the lens opening.
