Really not sure how anyone could give this anything short of a five star rating because it's a perfect fit. The quality of the lens is as good as if it came built on the camera - nice weight and balance with bigger battery. It screws in with ease to the 37mm thread on the front of the camera.
When widened fully out the 'fish eye' effect is BARELY noticeable, if at all really, unless you really pause and compare. I see that it's been discontinued, so I'm stoked that I bought mine right before that occurred. Not sure if the newer model will be the same - and won't be buying to find out. No need - this lens is perfect!
Great for indoor close up shooting and for wide panoramic landscape views.
This isn't a negative but it seems that people have issues with this lens because it blocks the camera built-in flash in photo mode. Personally, I don't use the Handycam for taking pictures so I'm not bothered by that. Buy a Canon Powershot if you want to take high rez pics for cheap.

Got this lens for my second smaller Sony 1080i HD video camera. I was VERY careful but within days of getting it a tiny pin sized hole appeared in the lens coating. I have no idea what caused it. Now I have a bright fuzzy spot that is always in the same position in all my shots.

When you need that extra width, this conversion lens works exceptionally well if you do not need to utilize the full zoom. Your conversion lens is unprotected as the box will need to come off the front of the A1U and it does not have a threaded front for a filter. But the quality of the lens construction and resulting video from the A1U was well worth the investment. You may want to investigate the use of conversion lens settings in the A1U menu.

Great for large family gatherings. The lens allows wide shots in fairly tight spaces. Being an occasional user this lens was recommended by a friend and I was amazed at the feeling of openess when watching my videos. The lens seems to be well constructed. I like the weighty feel and ease of connection to the camcorder.

Photographer and Videographer for many years (professional), to feel capable to record those confined wide areas this wide angle conversion lens is a must. Its like trying to use a 50mm in a 24mm or wider shooting area. I purchased a lesser wide lens and returned it. This one has quality and makes you feel complete in many shoots.

I use this lens for indoor shots of rooms in buildings that I am surveying. It comes in useful for smaller rooms especially. I do notice a bit of "barrel" distortion as would be expected. The edges of the shot are sometimes out of focus, but I am not using this lens for critical work, so it is acceptable. I had to buy the photo video light for the camera due to the fact that when you screw this heavy lens onto the front of the camera, you cannot use yhe built-in flash. Despite its drawbacks, I would recommend anyone get this lens as long as you weren't looking for a distortion free image.

This wide-angle lens is by far the best I have ever used. There is very minimal barrel distortion throughout the whole telephoto/zoom throw depth. The lens keeps a very high grade quality in the final recorded raw video.
Although almost everything about this lens is superbly amazing, there is one small thing that detracts from it's overall usefulness just slightly. If you would want to take a picture with flash while the lens is on, the flash will not work. The lens has to be off to be able to use flash. Even if the flash would work while the lens is on, the lens is so large, it blocks the view of the flash anyway. Otherwise, a very very great product.

great. Fits nice and snug on the Camcorder. The lens has a rubber ring around it for a better grip. It is a great lens and I am happy with it “Sony did a fine job”.
