PRO: Pound for pound this is the most feature rich receiver out there for the price. THX certification with Dolby True HD and DTS Master amps run several hundred dollars more with Sony and others. I reviewed, compared and read everything out there and this Onkyo 705 is a great buy! Apart from the great features and sound, the on-screen display is really nice. It allows you to customize any and everything with an easy to read display. You should have many years of pleasure and not have to worry about missing out on features. HDMI inputs and video up conversions for your SVIDEO and Component is really special. Don’t get fooled into paying more with Sony or others, this amp packs a big punch with clean quality sound and should be able to handle anything you throw at it for years to come.
CONS: The surround auto-speaker calibration doesn’t work as well as many claim but to be honest- I’ve yet to see one work good regardless of the brand. You can use it as a starting point then adjust to your taste.

Bought this to upgrade from my old Onkyo TX-DS777 - nice upgrade! Disappointed that this model didn't have 1080p passthrough/conversion from Component Video to HDMI (you need the new -706 or -805/-806 models for that). The AUDYSSEY MultEQ XT speaker setup is very nice too, if a bit long running to finish.Overall, very happy with my purchase, especially at under $500!!

Though I'm struggling a bit getting the Zone 2 to work properly, or at all, I like this Onkyo product and it was a breeze to set up and calibrate the speakers. It was also very simple to hook up the HDMI inputs and designate them in the unit config to easily switch from input to input. For [$], this is a very nice piece of equipment.
