This camera is the perfect bridge between professional and amateur cameras. It delivers everything it promises. The menu and other instructions can be a bit daunting, and often, moving between styles and needs takes too many pushes of too many buttons.
But, solve that by shooting standard RAW and learn to use the White Balance and you can make adjustments on the computer.
Cons:
The AWB doesn't seem to be as precise as setting it yourself. But by shooting RAW, you take that out of the equation.
The 24-105 IS EF-L is making me lazy. The glass, is so sharp that when the 105 isn't long enough, the 12.8 mp resolution coupled with Leica-like glass offers up a precision that can be enlarged in the software.
Finally, it's a big camera by today's standards. But being 6-1, 290, it's just right for a real man.
The major complaint: The software packaged with the camera is much too complicated.
I don't know if the manufacturer believed photogs would use their own or if they simply can't speak in human terms.
But the help index and other instructions are inadequate. While pros will have access to supersoftware such as Photoshop, amateurs will rely on this software. The manufacturer needs to add a simpler tutorial.
Finally, I've been asked by several people if the 5D, being about 3 years old will drop in price with the rumors of a second generation 5D. My reply, don't hold your breath.
After purchasing the 5D, I went looking for articles, books, add-ons and all of the material out there was for the 40D, Canon's top amateur camera. It's not a cheap camera. Drop the price on the 5D and those puppies will jump from trendy to doorstop. There's no comparison. The 5D the best camera on the market for the money.

Picture quality is perfect. AF speed is slow, useless for sports. LCD is small nowdays and not bright enough either. 12bit processor is getting old compared to the new cameras.
Reliability and Canon's quality controll is the worst ever.
Too bad that prices are that high, 08-18-08 especially before phasing it out. It would be a great affordable full frame camera.
I have owned 2 5Ds so far. The first had problems adjusting the aperture with the bottons multiple times. My second one died after a week of usage and taking 500 pictures on a trip. Diagnozed with controll panel failer...
I also had a bought a new 40D with pixel deffects.
Although my 10D, 20D was perfect all the time the recent purchase may show that Canon is building quantity rather then quality.
I am very dissatisfied after buying 3 cameras which all had problems.
I was also a long time Nikon user and never had so much problems as with Canon.
May be I should by Nikon which has better quality controll. Or I am just horribly unlucky nowdays!
I recommend to hold off and wait for the 5d mark II
which supposed to be arriving by Christmas 2008.

Comments about EOS 5D Digital Camera Kit with Canon EF 24-105mm L IS USM AF Lens:
Currently, I use my 5D and 24-105mm lens for portrait portfolio development, senior portraits and stress relief!
I would say my 5D is better than having a boyfriend. With superior sharpness and ease of use, it never lets me down and drives like a Cadillac. As soon as I opened the box, I started playing with the controls and menus, learning their basics within minutes, and began shooting right away, with VERY happy results. I shoot everything on manual and find that any adjustments to ISO, shutter speed, white balance, aperture and auto-focus points can be accomplished expediently and with ease, as everything is well-situated on the camera body. If I take crummy photos with the 5D, it's always my fault and never the camera's.
As for the 24-105mm lens, who can really argue against Canon L-series glass? It has image stabilization, very little flare and can provide extremely sharp images. I love that I can come very close to my subject with it. It's sturdy, quiet and solid, too.
My only complaints thus far about the 5D have more to do with Canon in general and not the 5D specifically. I have three Canons: the 5D, the Rebel xti and the Power Shot 850. With each of them, I notice the range of colors between aqua and turquoise seems a little dull, no matter what settings I have used, including manual white balance. Also, with the Rebel and 5D, there could either be A) more auto-focus points or B) a built-in manual focusing screen.
I can't complain too much about the 24-100mm lens. There is a little light drop-off when it's wide, but that doesn't really bother me. Sometimes it back focuses, and I would not consider the auto-focus to be especially fast. I'd be happier if it were f/2.8, but I knew when I bought the thing that the maximum aperture was 4.0, so I don't feel bitter.
Overall, the Canon 5D combined with the L-series 24-105mm zoom lens is a fabulous, versatile duo. That's why I give it kisses in the morning.

While the 5D has been replaced by the Mark II, this 12mp camera is still an awesome full-frame sensor with naturally good high-ISO shots. I am not a professional, but I use this camera to take creative exposures of my family indoors and out!

Comments about EOS 5D Digital Camera Kit with Canon EF 24-105mm L IS USM AF Lens:
This is my second 5D. Photos with the 100mm Macro and EF 24-105mmL IS USM AF lenses are superlative!
Although it is relatively easy to use and has an excellent Manual, there is a fairly steep learning curve to climb in terms of becoming comfortable with the large number of settings and modes available. Fully automatic shooting makes it easy, although sacrifices the full capabilities of the camera.
Beautiful contruction, although not quite on a par with the recently released 5D Mark II.
The size and weight of the camera/lens is significant. I suppose that is the price to be paid for a system of this quality and capability.
Continuous shooting is a bit slow, but I don't view that as a significant factor.
Canon support, both online, via telephone and in person is excellent!!
Having purchased three Canon DSLR's, I'm convinced that I own the cream of the crop.
I recommend it highly!

I've owned a XSi and 40D prior to upgrading to the 5D. The viewfinder is amazing !! It's like your looking into a whole new world. The image quality is superb. The 5D handles low-light so much better than the 40D. Be prepared, once you go full-frame, you won't want to deal with a crop sensor anymore. Not gonna even gonna get started on how sharp the 24-105L lens is.

Even though it is a 3 year old camera, it is still one of the best and affordable ff in the market. Based on latest reviews of MarkII and the first 5D, the IQ is about the same and if you do not use high ISO this camera is the best deal you can get.

I upgraded from a 20D to the 5D. The transition was smooth and the quality of the 5D is superb. Other than going from a small sensor to a full size sensor, my favorite new feature is the size of the LCD screen. The 24-105 lens is a great complement to the lenses I already have and its quality is excellent as well. [...]

I have only photographed a couple of times with my new 5D and I already see the difference. The images are beautiful. The technology has really come a long way. I have photographed a portrait shoot and wedding and am extremely happy with my purchase. The full frame was a huge selling point for me and I of course immediately saw the difference. What I wasn't expecting is such a difference when uploading the images. It looks more like film and I am very excited to keep shooting.

I'm in the process of starting my own photography business. My philosophy is get the best equipment you can at the time. Fortunately, this camera fit right into that. The camera is extremely comfortable to hold, the picture quality is amazing. The only difficult thing for me was switching from nikon over to canon because the controls are different, but after playing with it for a few days i got over that. So far i've only been able to use it for some e-sessions and the pictures are outstanding! Can't wait to see how it performs at a wedding!

Comments about EOS 5D Digital Camera Kit with Canon EF 24-105mm L IS USM AF Lens:
I moved up from a 20D so it's very similar. The CMOS Chip offers a higher quality image with more vivid colors. My only concern is some "Vinyetting" that occurs with the F-4 Lens on lower settings of 4.0 & 4.5. However, this can be corrected with a higher F-Stop of 5.0 or 5.6 or raise the ISO to let more light in.

Comments about EOS 5D Digital Camera Kit with Canon EF 24-105mm L IS USM AF Lens:
To say it's the best camera I have owned doen't say much. Out of the box I was very impressed with it. After using it for a year now I have come to wish I had a cropping factor and a 2.8 lens instead of an f4 lens. So I sold the 24-105 and bought a 24-70mm 2.8 canon L. The one very strong factor that the 24-105 f4 has is that it's Image Stab. works better than most IS lenses. But I found I would rather have a faster f stop than IS. The camera works very well this frame preforms very well and ISO 1000 and 1250. I was most impressed with how low noise ISO 1000 is. I would deffinately recomend buying an Canon 580EX with this if you plan to use on camera flash. Since I gave the down side of having no cropping factor I need to enclude the positive as well. Many people are impressed by Full Frame, and colors do look more true. Many Mother of Brides can be impressed when you tell them Full Frame means truest colors. But you might wind up with one that wants to compare bridesmaids dresses to prints. All in all this is a great frame and a good lens. But if you see yourself as more as telephoto photographer go with 1d mark iii with 1.3 cropping, and if you will work more in low light you might want a 2.8 lens. Also this camera is much quieter than Nikon counterpart.
Also if you plan on using the heck out of if buy the battery grip. Without battery grip you might get about 400 shots, but with battery grip you might get 1200 shots.

Comments about EOS 5D Digital Camera Kit with Canon EF 24-105mm L IS USM AF Lens:
I decided to bought this 5D with 24-105IS kit lens because the price was very atractive with Canon rebates. Besides that, now I have a camera that really shots at X mm with a X mm lens, I was surprised to see that in the same event location (closed space with artificial light) that I periodically take pictures, I used the 5D with 24-105 f/4L IS to take 400 pictures without flash with iso 400/800 with speeds of 1/50s or greater. All previous time that I used my 40D with 17-40 f/4L + 70-200 f/4L IS in the same location and light conditions, I always have to shot with my 580EX flash on and use ISO 800-1250 in manual mode, as the 40D meter said that there was not sufficient light to keep speed greater than 1/50-1/60s without flash (in Av or Tv mode). I knew that the 5D is 1/3 stop more ISO sensitive than the 40D, but looks like that the full frame sensor is making the (big) difference. Plus, the 5D colors looks better, specially skin tones. But, I think that the 5D pictures can have more noise in dark areas than the 40D, people say that you need to expose to the right to avoid this. Another thing is that in the 5D stuck pixels are an issue. I identified some on mine from day one and find on the Net that this is a commom issue with the 5D. I tried the sensor cleaning menu method described on the Net to remap the dead stuck/pixels, it worked, but two still appears if I shot at ISO 3200 with black backgrounds. You have to resize or edit the picture to eliminate then. I have my 40D for almost a year and I never saw/identified a stuck pixel, and I always look at the pictures at 100% magnification.
