Celestron 90AZ Overview

Designed as a capable and portable starter-scope, the Celestron AstroMaster 90AZ 90mm f/11.1 Refractor Telescope is a complete observational platform for making detailed observations of the Moon, planets, or comet-hunting. Its manual alt-azimuth mount's locking altitude clutch and adjustable pan-axis tension knob allows users to easily track objects using the locking pan handle with reduced vibrations. The entire rig assembles and breaks down without the need for tools, so users can set up fast and get observing sooner.

This version of the AstroMaster comes with two eyepieces that yield low and medium magnifications, and a 90° diagonal that sports an integrated erecting prism to correct images and allow the scope to be used as a conventional spotting scope for terrestrial use. The diagonal also places the user's head in a more comfortable position, especially when the OTA is pointed at or near the zenith. An adjustable-height stainless steel tripod supports the mount and optical tube, and comes with a center tray that conveniently holds accessories while improving stability and reducing vibrations.

Celestron 90AZ Reviews

Nice telescope, even if a bit large...

I got this telescope to use MAINLY for terrestrial viewing, not star-gazing. And as long as land viewing conditions are good (no haze, smoke, heat waves, etc.) it works just fine for that. I went with the 90mm Celestron -- AND the AZ model as I didn't need the more complicated mount (equatorial) for LAND viewing -- over the 60mm or 70mm scopes as I wanted more light-gathering ability, but otherwise a 60 or 70 would have worked as well. Of course, it CAN be used as a star telescope and I do use it occasionally as such for looking at the moon. I also ordered the Celestron Astromaster Kit that has extra eyepieces/filters, which I thought was a pretty good value (@ $60) for all you get: I think priced separately, the kit's contents would clearly total more than $60. That pretty much makes the telescope complete, but I MAY get an erecting prism for it also, so I can look straight through the scope as I find that more comfortable/intuitive than sitting to the side of the scope using the 90-degree diagonal. Again, for land viewing vs. star-gazing. And maybe a 25-30mm eyepiece as well (scope came with 10mm & 20mm eyepieces), to use if I want less magnification and more field of view.

Good start

Very good view of moon's details, good for planets, but do no expect so much. It's a interesting telescope for begginers.

question

Where are the telescopes that are PC Compatible. Or how can I transfer images from a non PC compatible telescope? Thank you!
Asked by: LaTanya P.
This telescope does not have a camera built inside of it. You would need to either mount your camera you have onto the scope to photograph images. Or buy a CCD Imaging Device. Called the Celestron NexImage Solar System Eyepiece CCTV Imager. Website link to the imager: http://bhpho.to/1Bgb5lc
