I'm an amateur photographer and I bought this lens to help fill out my small collection of lenses. I am really pleased with the product for what it costs. It is plastic and cheap feeling, but works fine. The auto focus seems fairly accurate.

I find myself taking pictures mainly of people, friends and family. I was able, however, to take a Senior pictures sessions using this lens and I was really pleased with the results. Overall, for the money it's a great deal.

I really like this lense. I use it for aking pictures of my kids playing sports. With a range of 55 - 200 it is quite versatile for bringing the action in close.

I would recommend this or the 55-300, which also looks great.

My yearbook students use this lens to take sport pictures. It is a great lens to zoom in on the field since we arent allowed to be down on the field. It gets us the close ups we need for the picture shot.

The AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm lens is absolutely awesome. I was using the AF-S Nicor
18-55mm lens that came with the camera, for about a year. I do alot of scrapbooking and the 18-55mm lens did a good job but, I wanted something a little better. And, what I got was something a Whole Lot Better. You have so many options for shooting with the 55-200mm lens. Small price for great results.

This lense works great for a variety of different things. I've used it for portraits, sports, wildlife, etc. and I've been pleased with the results. I haven't run into any problems with this product and I'm excited to use it more! I'd definitely recommend it!

We recently purchased a Nikon to be able to get better pics of our son. It came with a standard lens, but this is definitely worth getting. It gives a lot more zoom to get those close up shots and the VR stabilization helps tremendously! Its a must have lens.

Use this product at football games both on players and cheerleaders performing on the field. Enjoy the speed/motion freeze frame, zoom and hood for clearity and focus. I am a beginner and this additional lens has opened up some great shots. Even close ups on flowers and abstracts with zoom give different perspective over just the basic 18x55.

I couldn't decide if I needed this lens or the 55-300 lens which was anywhere from $100 to $150 more than the 55-200 kit lens. After going to a local shop and pawing them both, I decided on this lens. For the money, there just wasn't enough of a difference to justify the extra range. On the 55-300 lens, the image becomes really soft after about 250mm so the cost-to-benefit ratio didn't justify it. This lense is great. The VR (vibration reduction) is phenominal. It really does make a difference. Auto focus seems really fast compared to what I have used before and I have only had a few moments where there was a lag or inability to auto focus. It's easy and quick enough to switch back to manual if needed...but it's rare. This lense is really clear and accurate. I really took some great photos right out of the box and I even had a professional photographer give me great compliments on photos I posted to FB.

Just not the fastest auto-focus. For sports I would suggest getting the f/2.8 version.

I just like taking pictures, I guess I am an amature/casual photographer that needed a lens to capture close ups, when I can't physically get up close (children's sports & events. This turned out perfect for me. Not too expensive, with good quality output, for great memories.

I purchased this lens with the 18-55 VR and the D90. I've had it for about two weeks and taken some really great photos with it.

I love the feel of it, the smoothness of the operation and it's "Spot On" for my needs which are landscape, flowers and some bird shots.

Personally, i don't think you can go wrong with this one. So far i am really happy and look forward to the Fall colors when i can really get to use it more.

My father purchased me this lens to shoot sports with for the school paper. He un boxed the lens and took a few photos with it. He gave it to me the next day and i used it almost every day for a month straight. One day i went to shoot Field Hockey and it wasn't capturing the image. Upon closer inspection, the aperture lever had jammed. I took it to a photo store near me and they told me that it was cost $125.00 to fix. The lens is poorly constructed to say the least. I was told that since i used it so much, it just fell apart. I don't recommend this lens for someone that wants to use it often.

I use the product to take pictures of my son playing football. I certainly am not the masterful photographer. I like this lens because it allows me to get on the field with the shot instead of looking far away.

Do not underestimate this lens. The cost does not do it justice. One of the must have lens for all enthusiasts. Complements and 18-55mm kit lens very well. Build maybe plastic, but surely at this price, you can't be expecting the world. Good item.

I first bought the Nikon 55-200 because I read the reviews and most owners liked the weight. I wanted a long lens that would auto focus on my new D5100 (love that camera) and my D300. I am disappointed, however, that I needed to replace lenses I already owned if I wanted autofocus on the DX system. After checking it out I realized that even though the weight of the 55-300 would be more, the lens is still lightweight enough for my back country needs, so I returned the 55-200 and got the 55-300. When shooting near my car I don't worry about weight but I've been backpacking into the San Juan Mountains in Colorado and bought the D5100, the 55-300 and take my 16-85 with me to round out my gear. I also bought a waterproof bag to carry the body and one lens in my daypack when it rains. Otherwise the camera is hanging around my neck or mounted on a tripod.
