I've been using this backpack for over a year and I've used it on many hikes and trips. It has replaced my Lowepro Rover AWII as my main backpack.
I usually carry my D300, 18-200mm, 70-200mm f/2.8, 3 other lenses, as well as a flash. Even then, I still have room left over for my pano equipment and other neat accessories that I can't seem to be without. For the equipment I typically carry, the Vertex 200 is just the right size.
Interior: As mentioned by a previous poster, there are a lot of pockets and storage areas. All the interior zippers and pockets are constructed so that they won't scratch or damage your equipment. If you've owned other Lowepro backpacks, you will be familiar with the padded dividers that allow a multitude of storage options. Even with my gear, I still have some dividers and pads left over.
Exterior: The harness system is easy to adjust and allows you to distribute the weight of the backpack. The waist belt is very comfortable, and if the pack is adjusted correctly, a lot of the weight is transferred to your hips, instead of having it all be on your shoulders or back. After a long day of walking, I haven't felt discomfort I felt with other backpacks, like my Rover. The various slip-lock loops on the waist belt and sides of the pack allow for many carrying options.
For hiking, the laptop sleeve/area can easily accommodate a water bladder, making your Vertex even more useful.
Now the bad stuff: Like a previous reviewer mentioned, the weight distribution with a laptop, is not very good. The center of mass should be closer to you, which helps with comfort and mobility. If you're also carrying a tripod, the center of mass is even further away, and I often get the sense that I'm being pulled down from the back. I would be concerned if the pack is loaded in that way, and I'm climbing over objects or walking/hiking up an incline. As mentioned in the previous post, having the laptop sleeve be closer to your back like the CompuTrek line of bags, would be an improvement.
Other cons: The high-density padding on the backside of the pack is comfortable, but doesn't allow as much air circulation as I would like. On a long hike, my back would be sweatier than I would like. Also, there are no D-rings on the straps, which I find a little annoying.
One other note: When fully loaded (with laptop), the bag is pretty close to the limit, dimension-wise, for carry ons on most major airlines. If you plan on flying regional or smaller aircraft, this bag might be too big. On my last trip, I carried my laptop in a different bag, to keep my backpack slimmer. I didn't get hassled about it, but it never hurts to be prepared.

Had this bag for a while and used it for a couple of location shoots. This is what I found:
Good:
- It is very strong and heavily padded
- The material is excellent
- There are plenty of compartments and pockets
Not so good:
- The padding start to lose volume pretty quickly
- The bag is pretty heavy even when empty
- The waist strap doesn't fold flat if not used because it is so heavily padded
- The computer pocket is away from the back hence can feel heavy compared to if it were close to your back
Please note that I am a relatively small person so some of the challenges I had because of its weight won't be an issue for larger people.
I ended up switching to the classic mini trekker and that is my main bag for all my shoot. I am still amazed at what it can swallow up and how comfortable it is given the lesser padding it has.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 200 AW Backpack:
I researched this bag for quite some time and I am happy with the purchase. When you first get the bag it is not as big as it appears in the videos and it weighs a lot empty. Initially, that weight had me concerned because I am upgrading from a Sling bag (which I still love, just ran out of room) however; once you get all your gear in the bag and make adjustments to all the straps you hardly notice the weight on your back. Being in the Military has given me a lot of experience with heavy backpacks and the Pack does an excellent job and distributing the weight so well that, you do not feel top heavy or feel need to lean forward to reduce strain on your back from it pulling you backwards. I have hiked a few clicks with it since owning it and after about 8 miles I still did not notice the weight and my feet were not over stressed from the weight either, I could have carried it all day. The shoulder adjustment straps are what make the weight center up on your you back and I have only had one bag in the Military that did that and it makes a huge difference.
As for the laptop compartment, it fits mine pretty well however; there is not much room for the power supply and other important accessories I use like a tablet. If you have extra space in the camera compartment you could easily use that space for things like that however; I still need a separate bag for my tablet. I was able to use the laptop compartment to carry a 38 inch 5 in 1 reflector (not at the same time) and it still left me room for other things like a jacket or small tarp.
The glide lock system is a great idea however; it secures using Velcro and requires you to use a lot of strength to move it while possibly removing your finger nail from your finger where the Velcro meets the glide part. Other than that it works well and I like being able to customize the straps to accommodate my gear as I change it around.
Overall, I would buy it again the size it just right and it hold a lot of gear is a nice manageable package.

Great pack, upgraded from a smaller LowePro backpack and needed room for a PC and a few more lenses. Its very well built, lots of nice feature's. Only wish the PC space was closer to your back so its not front heavy. Zippers are very robust, a bit tough to move at first but they will loosen up over time.

For hiking with a lot of gear, and for carrying all of my gear including a laptop on airplanes. Very well padded and with large number of convenience straps and separators. That said, it gets heavy. I carry a Canon 7D with 18-135mm lens, a 400mm tele, and a 10-22mm lens plus other stuff. I don't think I'd want to have this on my back for more than 2 hr.

I originally bought the Lowepro Fastpack 250 and hated it. The Fastpack was so difficult to get into. Now I have the Vertex 200 AW pack that holds everything with ease and doesn't take a combination to get into. It has more than enough room for my Nikon D300-S with Nikon 70-200 f2.8, Nikon 18-200 and Nikon 105 f 2.8 Macro. There is still room for another camera body and more lens. I read in one review that it was too large for an airplane carry on... not true. I fly often and this will be my carry on. This is a great travel bag that doubles as my storage bag and hiking pack... who says one bag can't fit every occation.

I have had this bag in almost every element and it has held up to it all "snow, mud, rain and sand". I have thrown this bag off of a moving snowmobile and rolled it out of my truck on accident and it has protected my cameras and all the other equipment inside. I wear this bag full with 2 bodies and 5 lens's and carry it 4 miles fishing with no discomfort. Great bag..

Received the Vertex 200 AW Backpack, and was very pleased with the quality, construction and versitality. Used it last weekend at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, and found that it held and protected my equipment, was easy to wear, and distributed the weight evenly on my hips and back.

Fits EVERYTHING, so really consider how much you need, verses your ability to haul it around. Very balanced on body, waist/shoulder straps control the pressure points. Use this for the haul to the site, then a FlipSide to work out of.

I love this backpack. I've used a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW for years and have been very happy with it so when I needed to upgrade to a larger pack, I wanted to stick with Lowepro. I like the all weather cover and the two-way adjustable shoulder straps. The two outside flip pockets are great for quick access to all those little accessories you carry and the inside clear pockets are bigger than you find in packs by other makers. I picked this pack for it's 6.5 inch inner depth that allows you to carry many lens upright thus freeing up more space for your larger lenses. The only negatives I have found with this pack are 1) the webbing that covers the padding on the back traps tons of sand after setting the pack down on a beach and 2) the waist belt, although very comfortable, does not detach.

I really like this bag! I think the build quality is great. And it's very easy to adjust to your need.
In 90% of the time I love this backpack. But when I put my computer in it I don't like it. Because the computer compartment is situated in back (fare away from your back). The result is that the lid becomes very heavy. And the backpack becomes heavier to carry than it would be if you had the computer closest to you back.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 200 AW Backpack:
I have owned this backpack for about an year now. I pack almost all grear I own. (Nikon D700, D300, 24-20 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, memory cards, Macbook Pro 13", and lots of other accessories).
Strong made backpack, however I don't know if I really consider this as a backpack. I carried it on a 9 km hike and it almost killed my back. It will get darn heavy with all the gear in. I am only 5'7" with strong build, and I find it a bit too heavy for me.
It's external dimensions are on the borderlines of the Airline cabin dimensions, so I am always nervous before boarding. With changes happening everyday I don't know what to expect. Other than these two negatives it is a great backpack by Lowepro.

If you're a photographer that's used to smaller bags then this may be too big & bulky for you. But for me, as DSLR videographer who likes to travel light, this bag is FANTASTIC!
This bag is tailored to DSLR users. There are small pockets for CF & SD cards, several zippered pockets for cables and other small items.
The all weather zippers are a bit cumbersome when trying to zip and unzip. To me it's worth if it gets splashed or if I'm in a dusty environment.
I have room for a Canon 7D with battery grip and Canon 17-55mm lens attached. A Canon 70-200mm IS lens, an H4N recorder, rode shotgun mic, wireless lav mic & receiver, wireless handheld mic & receiver, batter charger, Zacuto Z-Finder, Sony MDR headphones, LED hot-shoe light and several other small accessories.
I've also tried attaching my video tripod - which is just a bit big. Even with all the extra straps I didn't feel like it was secure. I never attach my tripod so I'm not too disappointed.
There's a laptop compartment that fits my 15 in macbook pro. When I'm not using it for that I use it for books or gels for my lights.
Overall, for an average size guy, that has a lot of video accessories and is usually doing all of the production work alone - this bag is a lifesaver.
I haven't flown with it yet but it meets the TSA specs. On smaller planes I imagine I will have to gate check it. No big deal, I usually have to with my video gear and it's fine. The bag is so padded that I'm not worried, I'll just pop my laptop out and keep it with me.
I haven't mentioned the best thing -the LOWEPRO logo is very small as not to scream "I have expensive gear in here". I've had some other bags with huge logos and it makes me feel like a target.

Its well made and has some great features. But it is too heavy and poorly balanced. I tried moving the equipment around but I still find it hard to to get on. The computer compartment is a tight fit. No real place to keep the charger etc...
