The Olympus Evolt E-510 SLR Digital Camera combines the versatility, performance, and image quality of a professional SLR, with the simplicity, compact size and ease-of-use of a consumer point-and-shoot digital camera. The high resolution 10-megapixel Live-MOS image sensor captures exquisite detail, and provides you with the flexibility to crop your images and still produce large, detailed prints.
The Professional quality Zuiko lenses that Olympus has developed for the Evolt SLR Cameras are designed to work perfectly with all of the camera's digital technology so that your pictures will have exceptional color and clarity. A broad selection of lenses is available.
The sensor-shift image stabilization system uses a gyro sensor to track the movement of the camera and automatically compensates for it by moving the image sensor so blurriness is minimized or even eliminated. The image stabilization system can also be activated to assist you in low light settings, and because the system is incorporated in the camera body, it works with any lens. The Evolt E-510 also solves the dust problem commonly found with SLR Cameras by providing a proven anti-dust system so your pictures will be spotless - every time.
Ten advanced exposure modes are also available including program, aperture priority, shutter priority and full manual control. Furthermore, you'll get a great shot in any lighting situation with five metering modes including the 49-point ESP Meter. Even with all of this power, the Evolt E-510 is incredibly easy to use. The ergonomic and lightweight design of the camera body means that the camera will be comfortable to hold even after a long day of sightseeing.Furthermore, the E-510 makes it easy to shoot like a pro with 19 intuitive Scene Select Modes like Fireworks, Night Scene, Portraits and even Panorama modes.
The 2.5" HyperCrystal LCD enables images to be beautifully displayed in vivid color, even from 176-degree viewing angles or in bright sunlight. The Live-View feature provides users with the choice of framing images with the viewfinder or on the LCD Display, making it simple to preview and review your images.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 SLR Digital Camera 2-Lens Kit:
I wanted a good digital slr for outdoor trips. The ease of use helps me to learn photo skills. Amazing the quality photos this "all thumbs" rookie can create! B&H helped me get started with good equipment at a great price!

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 SLR Digital Camera 2-Lens Kit:
I am an amateur photographer and this is my first digital SLR. I found it quite easy to get started using and didn't take long to learn more of the advanced features.
The body image stabilization is amazing. I have a very unstable hand, and even more amazing was using 3+ sec shutter speeds and still getting a clear shot without a tripod. This even made my Canon EOS XSi friend jealous.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 SLR Digital Camera 2-Lens Kit:
I upgraded from my OM-1 to an E-20. Likewise, from the E-20 to the E-510. The feeling was about the same: as if it's the same camera, with tons of improvements. I use my cameras for almost everything, from family pics to copying articles, and some artistic efforts in between. The E-510 is a very good camera, great value; and although with many commands, it is an easy camera to promptly get going, and learning its goodies on the run.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 SLR Digital Camera 2-Lens Kit:
I bought this camera based on the reviews in CR; and they were generally right. It is my first DSLR. Although is is more difficult to use than my large format cameras, it does a lot more things. Probably the problem relates to a learning curve.
The instruction book (138 useful pages) says "try it out for a while before doing any serious work . . ." That is excellent advice.
I especially appreciate the two lenses that are provided (giving a 35mm equivalent coverage from 28 to 300 mm). The Image Stabilizer has two modes; both are effective when not using a tripod.
My only real concern is that, because the camera is so small, the controls are quite close together, so it is easy to inadvertently push the wrong button. Again, this is probably a learning curve issue.

This is a fantastic camera. I bought it just before our family vacation this year. I experimented with many settings and adjustments to get the feel for how best to use it in many situations. It took great pictures with excellent color, perfect detail. I continue to learn new things each time I use it.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 SLR Digital Camera 2-Lens Kit:
The controls are rather simple to use and the most important (such as the Exposure button, the dial which adjust most settings, and the shutter) buttons readily available with all located within a mere inch or so from each other and readily located to your thumb and first finger. In most cases this camera is fast and has a quick recycle... However when trying to photograph a lighting storm through my bedroom window the camera took several seconds to think/write to the card. (This is usually not the case in normal photography.)
The camera is rather comfortable and can be held for several hours (such as photographing a 1 year old who can walk) or when go photographing in a park, especially when you walk in/out.
The battery holds well and can provide a 1/2 day of shooting at least before needing recharging.
The Lenses are small and come provided with Lens Hoods. the only issue I've came across with these lens Focus are entirely electronically controlled, while equipped with a manual focused that's controlled by a focus ring on the camera, unlike other manufactures that have the focus ring physically control the focus, these lenses are controlled by the motor inside exclusively, the manual focus rings movement is sent to the camera which moves the focusing elements. the disadvantage is that it seams slower than other cameras, but unlike other cameras it can both auto and manually focus under the same setting (there are selections for Single, Continuous, Manual, Single & Manual, and Continuous & Manual Focus)
The Camera also features the ability to do panoramas (with the corresponding scene mode) which is easily stitched with the included software, however this only works with Olympus Branded xD Cards, which makes it more of a nuisance to use than anything else) It does produce good, well stitched pictures when used.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 SLR Digital Camera 2-Lens Kit:
The Evolt E-510 provided excellent shots right out of the box, with no adjustment. The handling and feel are solid and I particularly like the righthand grip. I work outdoors shooting landscape and cityscape and this camera took little time for me to become comfortable using. Both lenses are great, though I do prefer the 14-42mm for its depth of field and the size of the image area.

I was choosing a DSLR for a long time and wanted something that enables me of great use with lower budget and my choice was over this camera. It's exactelly what I was waiting for:Very confortable to use;Great colors;Very nice lenses;Easy to start with; The only thing that I have to tell agaist is a litle noise in High ISO (800 and 1600).The service of BH Photo was amazing! As I'm from Portugal I asked a family person to bring my camera and I had only 48 hours between order time and the flight time. I call directly BH and explain my issue and they promptely proceeded with the order. [...]

Finally upgraded from a Sony P&S. Also tried Nikon, Sony and Canon at a local store but they could not beat Olympus for quality of kit lenses (which provide a great range for a beginner), and "bang for the buck" (anti dust, image stabilisation, live view). Fantastic photos straight out of the box but a lot to learn with the move to DSLR. Loving it so far!![...]

I use my E-510 for a month and feel it is exactly what I wanted. I get very nice pictures at home with my family and my dog, on a sea shore, in urban scenes.
The thing I have to complain to day - some times I have two consequent frames when I press the shutter button longer than usual.

Comments about Olympus Evolt E-510 SLR Digital Camera 2-Lens Kit:
I love this camera so far...I took it out of the box, put in the battery and memory card, and took a picture! It came out great! After some basic tweeks that are intuitive to all point and shoot digitals, I took several more, and they are all fabulous. My son took it to the races, and with the two lense set up, he took some awesome photos. At 14 years old, he felt like a big deal! I like how the camera feels in my hands, it's not too heavy, and will auto-rotate for vertical shots. This camera was voted by some users "Best of 2007" in its class, and I can see why. You have to read the book, though, to get really familiar with this camera. It's got lots of features in it that you have to learn about, but the buttons and LCD display are clear and easy to navigate. I'm glad I chose it over the Canon, Sony and Nikon-I looked at them all! I'm giving it only four stars because of the night photos I took, some of which came out a bit dark and blurred, but I'm sure I can figure that out eventually. Also, when taking night photos on AUTO or SCENE, the camera flash blinks several times before it takes the picture. Have fun with this camera!

This is my second digital camera the other is a point and shoot. I simply love this camera! Once I got it out of the box and the battery charged it only took me a hour or so, and under stood how to use every feature. Easy to follow menus. Great comfort in the hand, easy to hold still, and I love the image stabalizer. I find for most of my situations the 14-42 lense will be used the most.
I would but this camera all over agian!
