Batteries, lenses, recording media, and a microphone are required, but not included; always carry plenty of power and extra media
The Panasonic AG-HPX500 is an affordable 2/3" CCD high definition camcorder designed for use with the P2 memory-based recording system. The camera truly shines in a wide variety of applications previously only possible on the highest-end Varicam. The unit is lightweight enough to take almost anywhere while still conforming to the shoulder-mounted form factor professionals require. Four P2 slots allow for up to 256 minutes of continuous recording.
Unlike similar priced camcorders, the AG-HPX500 can shoot a variety of standard definition and high definition resolutions, including 720p, 1080i and 1080p. All footage is recorded to the industry-standard DVCPRO, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO HD formats, which can be used in almost every professional editing suite. Features such as variable frame rates, 60p, chromatic aberration compensation (CAC), cine-like gamma, and many others provide limitless possibilities for dramatic, news and sports productions. No matter what the task the AG-HPX500 has it covered.
Note! This model does not come with a lens.

Comments about Panasonic AG-HPX500 2/3" Shoulder Mounted P2 Camcorder:
This camera packs a huge HD bang for the buck. It has features previously only available in a higher price point camcorder. Why pay almost as much for a less ergonomic camera that doesn't have the pro features this camera has. This camera is versatile and perfect for broadcast video feature, news, DVD and web production.

Comments about Panasonic AG-HPX500 2/3" Shoulder Mounted P2 Camcorder:
I waited for Panasonic to come out with a P2, broadcast quality camera and it was the best decision I ever made. The 20+ formats got me foreign clients who need PAL, domestics who want NTSC, HD, SD and everything in between. This camera does it all and more. I've never lost a byte on the P2s in more than two years and the MXF workflow is fast and manageable. It even works on the same DS20/SoloDV Miller tripod as my XL1s. Add a great lens and you'll never regret it.

Comments about Panasonic AG-HPX500 2/3" Shoulder Mounted P2 Camcorder:
Quite cheap but very good camcorder for this price. I worked before with procamcorders like AJ-D700, AJ-SDX900, DSR450WSL, PDW-530 XDCAM and for me the worst thing of HPX500 is very, very weak viewfinder... It has also poor menu and too small audio level meter what is important when you work with sound engineer - it could be two switchable items on one LCD display: video preview and "normal" audio level meter with time code (like in DSR-450). For professionals HPX2000 is much better in usage but it costs twice or more (the main reason I did not buy it) and has no SDI. If you do not have P2 gear SDI is sometimes very useful to copy material on broadcast recorders (I do it quite often). Anyway I like my HPX500 and is really worth to buy!!!

Comments about Panasonic AG-HPX500 2/3" Shoulder Mounted P2 Camcorder:
Great camera. Love the P2 work flow. Lots of configurations for HD and SD. Bought last Jan. 08. Very power efficient. Best features: No moving parts, No heads to wear out, No such thing as drop-outs, no heads to clog or clean. Very awesome.
I have a fuji wide angle lens on the camera, and love to do hand held at waist level with the LCD screen out. Very steadi-cam like when shooting this way.

So far we are very happy with the HPX500. Execellent picture quality. The P2 workflow requires a whole new approach when it comes to ingesting, logging, etc.

Comments about Panasonic AG-HPX500 2/3" Shoulder Mounted P2 Camcorder:
Action sports in Reno/Tahoe area.
Cannot break it and the P2 card system allows unprecedented rough handling in outdoor weather. Makes HDV tape look very shabby - can never go back to HDV.
Its still a big camera and not as easy to use as a smaller camera. Extra P2 cards are over priced in my opinion - but they don't wear out!
Worst feature is Japanese translated manual!

I shoot mostly films and music videos and I have to say that this is one amazing camera. Tons of professional features, easy to use and if you put some nice primes on it the picture will blow your mind. Long battery life. Great for the price.

Comments about Panasonic AG-HPX500 2/3" Shoulder Mounted P2 Camcorder:
I've used this camera for ENG work at my job, though it could be used for just about anything from events to commercial production to filmmaking.
Great HD picture quality shooting to P2 cards.
Great price. $20k for a full package is an unbelievable deal.
Easy to use for anyone who has handled a larger camera or moving up from the HVX200.
Works superb in low light.
My only knock is that the viewfinder is weak compared to other cameras in this range.

Comments about Panasonic AG-HPX500 2/3" Shoulder Mounted P2 Camcorder:
Great camera but make sure it has the e-prom update for the 5600 white balance pre-set. The 5600k white balance pre-set is very blue and green. There is talk about it on the forums and Panasonic has a fix. It doesn't effect the manual AWB modes.
The scene file wheel (like the HVX200) is great to have on a pro camera.
