Nice design and well built for the money. It is a nice plus to have variable power output in a simple quartz array.

The only drawback I've seen is the color temperature warms a bit on lower output, so you have to experiment a bit with the camera settings.

This light set is better than I had expected from the description. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it is adapatable for umbrella lighting as well as softbox lighting!

Even though I am saying they are "Great Lights", I give it 4 stars JUST because the stands are very "cheap", BUT for the money and if you are resposible with your lights, these lights should last you for a LONG time. We've been using them for green screen videography and they have been working great, our studio is very small, so to be able to control the density of the light is wonderful. I definately recommend these lights for small ongoing projects.

We've been working on building up our video equipment for a small studio that we're adding on to our church, and these have been great for photo shoots and video shoots. We've used them for chroma keying, and just standard lighting for videos and they perform wonderfully. Our new guys really like the adjustment dial on the back and they're light-weight and good quality! Thanks B&H for helping us get started!

I bought these lights for indoor video production because I liked the variable power feature. It's great that you can adjust the light's intensity. but the "deadly quiet" fans are anything but. The whirring noise overwhelms any nat sound you plan to pick up on your camera's internal microphone. Definitely need to use wireless lavs or a boom mic around these lights. Otherwise, the lights work as advertised and are a good value.

From a lighting perspective this product is excellent. Fans are extremely noisy and make it almost impossible to use for video production (unless placed extremely far from any mic's.)

These lights work. They do a great job for soft lighting. Everything good I read in these reviews is true. However, I also have a lowel light kit. Lowel is higher priced, but is higher quality so that is what I'm used to. This kit has a very flimsy bag that keeps nothing organized, and you have to assemble the soft boxes every time you use them. Nothing about the kit is high quality (including the stands), or convenient. BUT once they are up and put together, they light nicely. I guess I would rather pay more money for an easy fold up soft box, sturdy stands, and high quality bag.

I would like to say, however, if you are in a studio where you would not be transporting this to different shoot locations, they may be much easier to deal with.

I bought this set as I needed some portable lights for several on location video shoots I had coming up. They worked GREAT! The variable setting for the strength of the light is fantastic, and the set-up is not bad either. They do get hot so you have to account for that when tearing down, but they are cool enough to touch after I pack up my other equipment. The one draw back I have experienced thus far (it's minor) is the bag easily wears on the bottom. However, the lights have been fantastic. For the value, you can't beat this product.

I use it to film events like wedding and parties,
Its fearly easy to put it together once you get the hang.

Great value
Great Light output.
Easy to carry.

The only thing I don't like is that the bulb has to be removed every time you take apart.
Make sure you use a sand bag if you have set up high.

I reviewed this item on 2/3/08 and will not repeat all of my earlier comments. I have taken well over 1500 photographs using this rig and transported it to several different sites - assembly and take down is a chore [an understatement] - I am now seriously looking for something more umbrella like to speed & ease this process the best I have spotted so far is the Lowel Rifa Ex but those are at a much higher price point. Hate the worthless instructions, like the lights but continue to desire a cool down fan only setting. Overall investment considered, this is a good set though I wish it offered an easier less stressful assembly and take down. The rods are under so much stress they have all bent some worse than others and I have been forced to staighten them. My set did not come with the paper backdrop but I have been using a Chromalloy background so that has not been an issue, [...]

We used this kit in a small studio for instructionalvideos. The lights run hot, got a flimsy feeling and the light stands squeaked and creaked as we rigged the lights, and no matter how hard we tightened the screws it still was a little bit to lose to feel fully secured. The softboxes was not easy to assembly with the speedrings, and the softboxes felt a bit too flaggy. They leaked light and the vent flaps had to stay open to let the hot air out to avoid a burning smell. A good thing is that the heads are small and easy to place in a small studio and that you can dim the lights. 3000w sounds like much light, but we had to add some more fill lights to make it look natural.

I'm a commercial photographer working mostly with food and products for some nationwide brands. For the price this SAVAGE kit goes beyond expectations. My dear reader, you won't regret to get it. I must give a piece of advice, use it better for digital photography, thus you can control via computer the WHITE BALANCE. Tugsten/Quartz lighs working at 3200-3500 K are very yellowish, therefore you need a lot of control to balance'em towards neutral balance, other than that, what a great KIT. You will have some hard time setting the softboxes with the rods and the speed rings since the so called "INSTRUCTION MANUAL" shall not be a big help. You will need to figure it out by your self how to deal with the initial assembly. The only sad thing from this kit is the lack of accessories. You need to try and try to see which things you can attach to the light heads. Other than that, you WON'T regret this purchase.

Used for portrait photography for a University. I am experienced in landscape photography but a novice in studio portrait photography and I found the instructions for the initial set up to be lacking and the accompanying photos so poor as to be of no value at all - definitely not intuitive for a novice like myself. One of the rods I received was untipped, a defect, and my fumbling attempts at the initial set up resulted in a small tear in one of the boxes. It also took me some time to set it up initially - subsequent set ups went much faster though not what I would call speedy. Stands could use some low weight bags for stability particularly if used outside where there might be wind gusts. Wish the switch allowed for a fan on only setting for cool down which is lacking; the rheostats are nice. If the softboxes are used on a boom you will need heavy counter weight and get it down low otherwise the whole thing will be very top heavy. Takes up a fair amount of resl estate to set up. Excellent cord length made getting to outlets easy without an extension cord. Otherwise most pleased to this point after taking around 500 or so shots.

This light kit is built to impress! The softboxes are large, but if you plan on shooting anything other than small items, you'll need them! The light stands are great--very sturdy and lightweight. The lights themselves are top-quality. They have metal housings and the built in fans and dimmers are wonderful to have in the unit. I anticipate many years of use from this quality kit.

I used these lights on one shoot. They worked out great, but the boxes were too big for the tiny studio setting we were in. Sorry to get rid of them. Great buy.
