This is a pocket camera for my wife, and for times when I don't want to lug the DSLR around. Image quality is probably the best in it's class, and the price for a 12MP camera is outstanding ([$]). The zoom is only a 3x optical, but it has a reasonably useable digital zoom, and the image stabilization helps there. The flash is a bit underpowered, and the default ISO for flash is 800. If you force a 400 ISO, you lose a bit of flash range. When they say 12 feet, they mean it. On the plus side, the flash recycling time is rather quick - 2-3 sec. Battery life, however, is pretty low. When not in power saving mode, we got about 100 shots before the battery called it a day.In terms of useability & image quality, I consider it very good. Easy to figure out, fast & mostly accurate focusing, pleasing color balance, and well exposed pictures. It does everything I expected it to do.

I'm a professional photographer and sometimes it's not feasible for me to carry around my DSLR, so I wanted a point and shoot that has manual mode ability and good picture quality to carry in the event something catches my eye. My biggest problem with this camera is the amount of noise in the picture, if you shoot at ISO 200 it's tolerable, push it to 800 and maybe a 4x6 print might not show it. I'm not recommending this model, just because there has got to be something better out there.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F50fd Digital Camera:
Probably one of the best cameras I've owned.
It's so easy to use and works very well.
The one inconvenience is that you have to take out the battery to charge the battery itself, because then when you put it back in you have to reset all the settings. But other then that it's great!

I work as a journalist and part of my job is taking photos for the newspaper. I have used this camera on many occasion because of its compact size. It's less intimidating to some. The LCD is bright and clear and my photos look great. Great camera for the price. But I must say, I haven't tried any real action photos yet.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F50fd Digital Camera:
Excellent camera for the price. We bought the same camera last year and used it while in Bonaire scuba diving with a Fujifilm under water case. I added an Inon 240 and took pictures that rival the Nikon D80. We used the camera in San Francisco last year and lost it in a crowd. We bought another one just like it. Nice color. Easy to use for my wife and kids.
The 12 megapixels allowed us to enlarge several pictures that turned out AWUSUE. The quick recycle time on the flash matched the Inon nicely.
The Macro focal point is not as close as I would like.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F50fd Digital Camera:
I bought this camera for our trip to Mexico and it did a great job. Picture quality was very good and the camera was easy to use. The price cannot be beat. Fuji has an update to this camera called the F60fd but with a few minor improvements. You will have to decide if it is worth the extra bucks. With the New Canon G10 and the Panasonic LX3 costing a lot more, I doubt if either camera takes that much a better photo than this camera. There is only so much you can do with a small sensor. This camera is less than half the price than either one. My only complaint is that the Fuji cameras are slightly noisier than Canon A and G series cameras. I shoot stock photos and do have more problems with noise but still this camera takes nice photos. Battery life is shorter than the Canon A series since those cameras take 4 AA's. Expect about 150 photos from a charge so a spare battery might be a good idea.

I purchased this camera based on a proffessional photographer's recomandation. He claims the camera is very good , especially when exposed to day light . It will not ruin the "object" even when there is much light behind. So far he was proven right.
The price for the package , including 2 SD of 2GB each , and the case , was definately worth the buy.

Great camera for general use to professional needs. At 12 Mp, I can make poster size enlargements. This camera has several modes to choose from for different effects with a 35mm to a 105mm zoom and a movie mode. Neat!

Its a great little camera, with face detection, big LCD screen and a lot of features, but I prefer some less noise like f31. In overall, this is a superb camera, excellent choice in supercompact class. Great value for the money.

I used this camera just last week on an trip to Sequoia National Park.
Great auto settings. The movie mode records sound as well. The microphone is small in power but the movies are pretty clear.
You can also change the ISO settings and adujst shutter speed. It does make a simulated clicking noise.

i love this little camera, it is nice as an everyday small camera to carry around instead of my SLR style. negative: the low light noise is pretty bad.
positive, i really like the option to take 2 pictures back to back -one with natural light, one with flash.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F50fd Digital Camera:
i am still someone who shoots almost exclusively film. i like wide angle and use a rangefinder, and analog works well for me usually. i got a F50fd for my wife and was shocked by its output. it is stunning. it does wonderful macro. it has vibrant yet real colors. its natural light mode is pleasing. i can't overstate how impressed i was. so, of course, i bought one for my business!
this camera helps fill the shortcomings of my other camera system (macro, automation, ultra-small).
the shortcoming is shutter lag when indoors in low light. but thats a perfect time for f1.4 anyway.

after having this camera for a few weeks, i must say this camera is nice. very comfortable in the pocket, easy to navigate through the menus, and nice image quality. i only have a couple of hang ups on the camera.
the macro is decent, not as good as i thought it would be. my f31 performed a little bit better. and the iso beyond 400 is not great (but good compared to most models i've seen)
all in all i really like this camera and look forward to much use with this toy of mine!
by the way I LOVE the 3:2 ratio that fuji is putting on their cameras! with that feature i don't have to worry about losing important parts of my images when printing 4x6 prints!

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F50fd Digital Camera:
I am a professional photographer and I purchased the Fuji FinePix to throw in my pocket when I didn't want to carry my large 35mm camera. It very easy to use and with the 12 mega pixels I get good everyday candid photos. The controls are pretty much self explanatory. I figured out 95% of the controls with out even reading the directions. I like the clip that holds in the battery down so you don’t have to use the battery door to push the battery in and then it brakes after many uses. I got fairly good sound from the video feature, you need to make sure you have enough light because there is no flash in the video feature. Great value, excellent macro setting, quick focusing, and very little time delay when releasing the shutter. Another great feature is it separates your photos by dates so you don’t have to look though tons of photos to get to the one you want.
