I've shot with Nikon for years and used an SB600 so when I switched to Canon I wanted something with equal range, versatility and familiar menu options. I also didnt want to break the bank, so I found the EF-530 to be the perfect compromise.

I bought this flash for my wife as a Christmas gift. She really likes it...because it's easy to use..and allows her to do different things than with other flashes. The price was right, too.

This is a decent flash, works well with my Canon EOS D 20. Its easy manipulate and set flash settings.
The only thing is its light, witch if you do a lot of shooting can be a good thing but, it feels cheap. After about 4 or 5 quick shots it takes a few seconds to recycle.
I would recommend to a friend after letting them know about the cons.
All and all for what I need it for its a good flash.

Needed to replace 420ex and the 430ex was too much cost at this time. This was the closest in specs, in fact just a little better specs for flash intensity. Works great so far and comes with one year warranty, when you register it they add an additional 2 years, so now has 3 year warranty which is great if they back it up. The 2 problems I have with it, is it feels to light for this size of flash and base of flash needs metal plate on hot shoe like the current canon flashes. What does it truly cost to add, maybe a dollar at most. All in all I like it and fill my needs. As for how it holds up with wear and tear only time will tell.

I owned a Sigma 500 before this that I used for 3 years until the shoe mount broke off and I need to send it in for repair, so I bought this one. I use because it gives 3 basic E-TTL settings, and the lowest setting is perfect with diffusion for portraits outside. Gives a great catch light and sends great fill light when needed that isn't overpowering.That being said, I only gave 3 start because the first one I got lasted under an hour before the strobe burst in it. It reacts quickly and a decent cheap flash you could ever find thanks to b&h.

Although the battery runs out quickly.

I'm new into using flash, but so far I have not had any problems with this flash. It may not have all the gadgets that some other flashes do, but it seems well fit for someone who's getting used to using a flash unit!

I mainly use this for fill, but event coverage has required a flash that is better than the on camera flash.

This fills that very well! Speed is great, firing shot after shot, its recycle times are fast. Focus assist makes even the slow kit lenses focus lighting fast.

However it is a weighty object, to use on a weighty camera, but if weight were a true issue I'd use an off camera setup. It's also a noisy unit with the autofocus, but in event coverage noise isn't a real issue

My picture quality was greatly improved with the addition of this flash. Easy to use, easy to attach, and my pictures look better than ever! However, don't forget to order your rechargeable batteries for it!

Simple, easy to use flash. As powerful as the Canon 580 EX II, but costs much less. No manual controls, but I usually just leave my setting on TTL. If you want manual controls, get the "Super" model.

Works great on my Rebel XTi w/1.1.1 firmware.

This is a good general purpose flash that will meet most of the needs of a casual or non-studio photographer. I love the long range that it has, bounce, and diffuser, but I keep finding myself wanting something that recycles faster for low light action shots - 4-6 seconds just doesn't cut it for action (although I will say that it forces me to plan my shots a lot more than I used to which is a good thing I guess). The controls are very basic - just a single switch with off, ttl/auto, low, and high power - it doesn't get much easier than that. I very rarely take mine off of the ttl mode - when I'm out just taking pictures, there usually just isn't time to fiddle with lots of settings before the moment is gone. I think it tends to underexpose just a touch in auto, but I'd rather under than over. It's also a little finicky about batteries. I have some uber expensive name brand 'digital camera' rechargeable batteries, and some no-name off brand ones, and surprisingly the off brand beats the socks off of the name brand ones...they recycle faster and last longer. I've had my flash for a little over a year now, and it's started developing some problems where it doesn't always fire, but that could be the camera (a700) lens (tamron 17-50 f/2.8) that I've started using for portrait work lately. All in all, I'm glad I bought it, although I think that if I had to do it over again, I might shell out the extra $50 for the Metz 48af-1 --mostly because of the recycle speed - everything else on the sigma more than meets my needs 95% of the time.

I bought this product in place of buying the much more expensive Canon 430 and I have to say it is well worth it. I love the different features and options that this flash provides. Would recommend for anyone on a budget!
