Quantum Instruments D23wR Wireless QTTL Adapter for Canon Cameras - Provides Wireless TTL Operation for Qflash T5d when Used with FreeXwire FW10w, 7Q, 8R & 9T
The Quantum D23wR QTTL module used with the FreeXwire FW9T Transmitter will allow full wireless operation of the Qflash T5d flash model, when combined with a wireless receiver and used with Canon cameras.
Provides pre-flash metering and E-TTL II (where supported) with the Canon Digital 1D Mark III, 5D, 10D, D30, D60, 20D,EOS 1D series (all models), Digital Rebel, and Kodak Pro SLR/c cameras. Full TTL with Canon EOS1, 1n, 1nRS, 1v, EOS3, 10, 10S, 600 series, 700, 750, 850, 1000, 1000F, EOS-3, A2E, A2, A5, Elan series, Rebel, Rebel S, RT, and T90.
QTTL adapters can offset Qflash output between -3 to +2 stops (in 1/3 steps) in relation to the f/number setting on the camera. Even if the camera doesn't support fill/flash ratio, the QTTL ratio setting tracks the camera aperture as it changes, providing automatic fill/flash ratio.

This adapter makes controlling the flash output simple when mounted on a flash bracket. The ability to adjust the flash exposure compensation right on the adapter without having to fumble with the camera controls is a huge plus. I have not yet used the wireless capabilities with this unit.

I recently used my Qflash along with the QTTL adapter, and found it to be very easy to use and a good metering system. It would be great if the adapter had the adjustments on the side, and a hot shoe on top so I could use my 580EXii as a fill flash for some of my shots. I am sure Quantum is already working on that aspect, so I will leave you with a very positive rating.

I am still using an older T2 150 Joule unit. It was modified for digital, and down the road my adapter was updated to D23wR to work with an EOS 50D. This may sound vexing, but Quantum did get it right; my exposures are just what I'd expect from Canon units, except the T2 has a lot more power.
This unit lets you dial in exposure compensation. I like that feature, where intervention is necessary. When it is not, the automation has proven to be quite accurate.

I use this adapter for quick outdoor fill flash, when I meter through the lens and do not have time to fiddle with flashmeters.
It works well with my Canon DSLR-s using the QFlash T5D-R both on a bracket attached to the camera or on a lightstand triggered remotely with the FreeXwire sytem.
Fill flash is a breeze with the unit just set the controls on the top to the desired value and shoot away.
For best performance single shot AF and spot metering needs to be used.
The unit does not have internal batteries so it is powered from the camera or external battery. I had several occasions when the unit drained my camera battery in short period of time. This can be a significant problem when shooting in darker areas where the focus assist beam of the unit is activated.
I will use external battery pack for my camera and flash to prevent the battery drain. The Turbo 2 x 2 battery can be used to power both the flash and the camera (you need to buy a cable for the camera that plugs into the Turbo Battery).
Overall it is a good product. If you do not need the power of the T5D-R the new Trio flash has all this built in. I needed the flashpower of the T5D-R (150 Ws) so I did not buy the Trio (~80Ws).
The Radiocontrol unit FreeXwire F9 plugs into the QTTL adapter for wireless remote control of the flash (es).
For bracket mounted use the QTTL adapter plugs directly into the QFflash T5D-R.
There is nothing else on the market that let you use so much power with full TTL control.
