I purchesed a used D300 from a friend and it did not have a monitor cover. I wanted to give my camera a fresh look because although used it was still new to me. I also wanted the piece of mind that my screen was not going to get scrached everytime i use it. When you dont have all the money in the world you want to protect your investment. once I put on the monitor cover it was like getting a new camera all over again, but for a lot cheaper.

This is an essential item for all Nikon D-xxx cameras but for the D-300 it simply won't stay on the camera. On a typical vacation it seems to come off at least once a day -- sometimes I discover it in time but too often I don't.
I don't mind replacing the cover when it becomes scratched through normal wear, but I don't like paying $10 for a new one every two or three days because it has come off and become lost.
I never had this problem with the D-100 and D-200.

I would never use my camera without the lens cover as I 99% of the time look through the viewfinder eyepiece. I have never had a problem with it falling off and I can see very clearly through it.

I use the LCD cover religiously, I want the LCD covered, I'm often in dusty dirty areas (I do a lot of macros, etc) and I have oily skin, so I really need the extra, I find it a excellent addition to my camera!
The only con I have is I wish they made them tougher to last longer, but for the price, if you think you need it, YOU DO.

It is good to have a spare being able to exchange the original protector after using it a couple of years with all its wear. But still the camera's display is free of scratches. So this part does what it is assigned for. It would deserve 5 stars if there weren't the electrostatic effect which causes the screen to collect fine dust particles on its inside.
