Comments about Sony SAL-16105 AF DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6(D) Autofocus Lens:
I consider myself an advanced consumer and the following is my review of using this lens with a A550 camera.
The lens has good light gathering capabilities. I would have preferred it to be a little faster, but at f/3.5, it meets my current needs. The pictures are sharp and the colors are true. I have taken some pictures which are destined to be blown up and will go up on a wall.
I have notices lens-creep, if you carry the camera with the lens pointed downwards. Also at 16mm there is some vignetting if you screw on a CPL. I was a little surprised at the lens-creep, but did expect the vignetting. I already have a UV filter also on the lens. With just one filter, I did not experience any vignetting.
I can deal with these, but buyers should be aware of this as they consider this lens for purchase.
Overall, I am satisfied with this lens.

After a long research of lens reviews. I finally made my decision to buy this lens.I considered the 18-250 range of either Sony or Sigma but I know that this range has compromises. B&H has this lens on sale[...] and this helped me decide to buy this lens. I always buy my photo equipments at B&H for the past 17 yrs. After testing this lens, I am not disappointed and even exceeded my standards for a lens of this range. Two days ago, I used this lens with my A700 and HVL58-am on a church activities and the results were excellent!!! I just wish that this lens has a constant aperture of f4 or f4.5

After so many choices and reading several reviews, I finally made the decision to buy this lens. I am glad B&H has this on sale[...] I tested this lens from 16 to 105mm range and I was very satisfied with its overall performance - the zoom range, color, sharpness, close and quick focus.I just wish that this is full frame and a constant f4. At 16mm f 3.5, it vignetts but it can easily be solve by using f8 aperture.

Comments about Sony SAL-16105 AF DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6(D) Autofocus Lens:
Bought this for its reach and fine glass and have not been disappointed. Own a Tammy 17-50 f/2.8 that is a find lens but is short on reach. This Sony lens has just the right focal length reach on both ends. Wish it was a constant f/2.8 but then it would be thousands of dollars and unaffordable.
Crisp, clear, great IQ. My new walk around lens and has not ever failed to get the shot.
Recommend w/o reservation.

After 2 years of nominal use, black Vignetting has started to appear in the upper corners of my photos. It's now on its way to Sony for repairs. Otherwise, I have really liked this lens. It has been rated better than the standard lens that comes with a Sony A350.

Nice optical Quality. Very light, but extremelly well built. Not very fast, but It is meant to be used with camera's stabilization.
The only thing that doesn't convince me is the short and stiff manual focus ring.

I bouigh this lens with Sony DSLR-350 as kit. I wanted to have a light, small travel SLR camera and lanes. It is a great value and lens delivers on on its promise. It is sharp and good value for the money
