Visible Dust Quasar Sensor Loupe 7x
The Visible Dust Quasar Sensor Loupe 7x is designed to provide a more in depth view of the sensor and chamber area. It has the ability to reveal the smallest dust particles and any other contaminants on the sensor.
Utilizing advanced (patent pending) features such as BriteVue technology with high optical magnification and 6 super bright LEDs, the SensorLoupe 7x is the only tool you need for locating debris on your sensor. The high quality optical glass is coated with MgF2 to reduce chromatic aberrations and to seal the lens so that no mildew buildup occurs.
The high caliber materials used in construction of the SensorLoupe provide a high resolution, distortion free, crystal clear image of the sensor. The BriteVue design aids to easily spot dust on the sensor, succeeding where other tools fail. The angled configuration of the 6 intensely lit LEDs, similar to that used in satellite imaging, provides a three dimensional image of the debris as opposed to linear lights of ordinary Loupes on the market.

My digital cameras have been really, really good to me especially when it come to dust. Until recently there had been no dust problems the hurricane bulb couldn't handle.
Alas my luck ran out and the time had come to clean the sensor filter. I took the plunge and invested in a Visible Dust 7x loupe and some Visible Dust Orange sensor cleaning swabs. On hand materials consisted of an older Hurricane Jumbo air bulb and Eclipse Optic Cleaning Solution.
The lens was removed and the mirror was locked in the up position. The Sensor Loupe revealed a mess, dust and debris were everywhere, it was dirtier than I though. The next step was to use the Hurricane air bulb to blow out the dust. Sweat was forming on my forehead as this was a huge mistake. There was even more crud on the filter. Could it be the old Hurricane Jumbo was shedding material or was it stored incorrectly and was it simply dirty? A little voice inside my head said "put the bulb down and nobody gets hurt". So that's an investigation for another time. I sparingly applied some solution to the sensor swab and made a single nerve wrecking pass. Now it was even worse as the loupe revealed big ugly scratches and smears on the filter. By now sweat started to drip down my forehead, my baby was trashed. So was it time to give up and take it in for repair before it got any worse? Not! Since the sensor was ruined beyond repair I gave it another go. I applied some more solution and swabbed again. This time making two passes and would you believe it the sensor was almost spotless. A couple more passes and the loupe reveal that it was pristine. My baby's back ;-)
The loupe was invaluable in reducing the frustration of many photoshop dust tests and honestly saved the camera a trip to the repair shop.
The only caveat is that you have to have steady hands to perform the cleaning.
In past reviews there have been complaints that for the price battery should have been included apparently someone listened as it's included now.

My only complaint is that the workmanship is shoddy. For all it's fancy packaging (zippered pouch and all), the "light disk" was shoved into the bezel at an angle. It still works fine, but just looks sloppy, for something as expensive as this.

This product saves time in cleaning digital camera sensors -- you don't have to check by shooting a test and looking at it on your computer, to see what dust you missed. I use to clean the sensor on my Leica M9, which seems to be a dust magnet. This loupe gives a very clear and bright view of the sensor. No need to do the old, wipe-test shots-wipe some more- test shots routine.
I also use it now to check for smudges and dusts on my lenses.
For the price, it probably would have been nice to have the case in metal instead of plastic, though.

I've now had a chance to use this on my 1D MKIV and 40D. It does an excellent job of lighting the sensor. In my case I was able to remove any dust with a blower. If I was actually putting a swab to sensor it might be nice to have a portion of the side cut away to insert the swab. That way you could actually watch what you were doing while lighted and under magnification. That's the reason for 4 stars.

If you want to get safely close-up to check out your sensor to insure you have removed every dustbunny from it, the BriteVue Sensor Loupe is the way to go!
You can planse the loupe right up on the lens mount of your camera body, hit the light switch and clearly see every bit of your sensor and everything that should not be on it.

After reading other comments about this loupe I decided to try it myself. I have used other loupe in the past but this one really shows everything on the sensor. I liked how bright the LED lights projected onto the sensor even in the corners. Great Product!!
