Not only is the product cheap for it's size, but very good as well.
The design is great, it's sleek and quiet. The LED light in front is a plus. The thing I liked most about it is the on/off switch in the back. I don't have to worry about unplugging it from the wall like I did with other externals.
Performance is a 5/5. Most external HDD are FAT32 based, meaning you can't transfer files over 4GB. This HDD however, is NTFS which allows you to transfer files of any size.
The transfer rate is fast and works great.
The only problem I had with this product was the USB cable. It's really short, about 2 feet long. So I have to keep it right next to my computer. Which isn't that big of a problem.
Overall I give this product a 5/5.
Great price, great quality, quiet, and fast.
HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone looking for a 1TB HDD!

I had another LaCie 350gb drive for 3 years. Loved it never had any problems. Got the 1tb in august, backed up the 350 to it along with some other photos. Worked great, smooth transfer etc. Plug it in today, Nov. 10, and my macbookpro nor my work powerbookG4 would recognize it, asking if I wanted to initialize it. Called LaCie, waited 12 minutes, they said it corrupted apparently but "the drive is still good." My take is this: it's like the "mob" trust is more important to us than money. Same goes here reliability is more important than "the drive still being good."
I know that's a big con, frankly I think because it's plastic it doesnt seem as tough as my metal one. Who knows. They say it's the power supply/dismounting incorrectly/etc. but I've always been cautious.
Going back to Western Digital and getting a RAID.

Comments about LaCie 1TB Hard Disk:
I use this drive as third backup on my stock photography files. I have used LaCie drives for eight years with no failures yet... knock on wood.
I usually don't work directly off a HD but it seems pretty quick. I wish it had firewire 800.

Comments about LaCie 1TB Hard Disk:
One of the least expensive 1TB external hard drive on the market, but it is also one of the best. Sleek design is both attractive and inconspicuous. Used in conjunction with my imac's time machine back up system, it is working just great. Had a bit of trouble installing due to operating system incompatibility, but even a relative technophobe like me was able to eventually figure it out.

Comments about LaCie 1TB Hard Disk:
Love the look and function. I back up my MBP with this drive (after I've backed up my various media files to other drives). If you're running Lion you have to reformat the hard drive the old fashioned way, but that's no biggie. In fact, it might be better because you won't have a lot of other extraneous information loaded on automatically. The only thing that would make it better, of course, is a Firewire 800 port. But that's why this is so inexpensive so beggars can't be choosers. Great drive.

Comments about LaCie 1TB Hard Disk:
I use these LaCie drives for my redundant second or third back up drives. I had several working for a couple of years with not trouble. Of about two dozen lacie drives I've had only one fail in ten years.

We use the product to store and transfer HD video files.
It is light, affordable, spins at 7200rpm, and looks classy
The plastic body makes it feel a little cheap and it could use a firewire port, but this is what you get for $60-70

Comments about LaCie 1TB Hard Disk:
I've never had a problem with Lacie hard drives. The great style is welcome, but stability is more important. This drive worked out of the box and was easy to use.
Make sure you use the pre-installed "start" program to initialize the drive. Then, reformat the drive from your system to your liking.
The power switch on the back is good to ensure it is not turned on when not wanted. When you have many external drives, it is good to control this access.
The blue light that shines underneath not only easily lets you know the power is on, but also flashes when files are being transferred. An added benefit is that the light does not shine in your eyes directly.

Comments about LaCie 1TB Hard Disk:
using this mostly for video storage. fast transfers for usb. easy to use out of the box. relatively quiet since it doesn't use a fan, but a little noisier than the product description had me believe.
it would be nice to have a feature that lets you easily deactivate the light, but that goes for just about all external hard drives. it's a tad bulky requires external power, so not the best portability. luckily this one just sits on my desk.

I bought this unit chiefly to protect my photos from inadvertent loss. It's design is elegant simplicity itself and is dead quiet in operation. Set up was self evident and gave this computer idiot no trouble at all. The price was just a bonus.

I've had this drive for only 3 weeks and it's running well. It's extremely quiet and it's design is sleek that accompanies my iMac beautifully. I am using it as a backup and as a spare drive. I am using Time Machine so set up was easy. I only use it lightly so it's speed doesn't bother me.
