As a video editor/motion graphics designer, I use this drive as a working drive. I try to keep as much as possible off my internal drives and the GLYPH drives always work for that! High speed connections, and a high speed drive mean they can keep up with the rendering, transferring and multiple file locations for any project!

I've read that the newer versions of this drive will likely not ship with the molded plastic case and padding, which I think is a bummer. But with the sturdy quality that these drives offer, I don't suspect most people will notice it's missing.

Anyone thinking about professional production standards should look into GLYPH drives. They're awesome.

The Glyph GT050Q is a must have for music production. The firewire 800 allows for fast processing and the unit is perfect for backing up all of your hard work. If you work wilt Pro Tools or any other music production software...you need this!

I purchased this hard drive because I was told that I need to have drive other then the one on which my OS is to record my music. I use it with Avid Pro-Tools 9 since I was told that PT9 works only with Firewire devices. The neat thing about this drive is that it comes with all sorts of connectivity options (besides Thunderbolt). You have USB 2.0, Firewire 400 and 800. External casing seems solid and it comes with a protective carrying case. On the inside it is essentially a Seagate 7200 rpm drive. I have to use it on FW 400 because it will not daisy chain with other devices that are 400 otherwise (this is not the hard drives fault, my Focusrite LS 56 is to blame here). I tried it with FW 800 though and it would easily transfer at 100 Mb/s. But the best thing about this package, is the 2 year data recovery warranty! Nobody else in the market can beat that. Being a musician I know how a computer crash can set me back if I lose my data. But Glyph will get it back for you if at all possible, to me that is worth the additional $100 of price you have to pay. Overall a good product which might seem overpriced initially, but you get a lot for what you pay. I am using it with iMac 3.06 GHz, OS 10.6.7.

This hard drive arrived after quite a few audio pros recommended it. When I purchase gear I am generally quite conservative, but just about everyone suggested this drive.

The product is sturdy, and obviously built for pro work. It came with a handy, durable carrying case and worked flawlessly on our first recording.
The only surprise, and a bit of a drawback was the sound of the fan. I heard that it was "whisper quiet", but found it to be a bit louder than that.
I, like many others am recording in a single room with a Mac laptop and an audio interface. The sound of the fan was a bit of a problem, but after surrounding the drive with some pillows etc. everything was fine. The Glyph now plays a vital role in my CD project's future. A great piece of gear.

I use these in a professional environment for storing large amounts of data. I am up to 8 of them now. Being that hard drives are bound to crash at some point, Glyph has always been great with their warranty and recovering data quickly-- even though I believe only one of them has ever crashed.

This is a great external drive. It costs a little more than some others, but I think it's well worth the extra few dollars in the end. I use it for audio recording in Logic and Pro Tools.
Pros:
-Quad interface
-Very solid build quality
-Reliable and trustworthy
-It comes with a black foam padded carrying case
-Overnight replacement warranty from Glyph for the first year
Cons:
-This drive isn't 100% quiet. The noise comes from the fan on the back of the drive, so its a persistent fan vibration sound. It happens for as long as you have the drive powered on. Not a deal breaker by any means, because it IS a quiet noise...but in a silent room..you can hear it when the drive is within reaching distance. I put it under the desk or a few feet away and its fine.

I would buy this drive again without question

I use this Glyph HD as my main photo drive. It is fast, quiet and so far has been impeccably reliable. I've only owned it a short while so I can't comment on how it will hold up over the long haul, but I bought this HD vs. all the others based on reviews by people using it for pro audio. They are much more demanding of it than I, and if it works well for them I felt it would be a good choice. It is in a very durable shell. Also comes with a custom carrying case but for my use it will remain stationary in my home office/studio.

Glyph, hands down, makes the best hard-drives for audio production work. I've used glyph drives for several years now from everything from simple ADR sessions to fully orchestrated tracking sessions and these bad boys have never let me down! The 7200RPM writable disk makes these products invaluable, as it allows me to record straight to the drive and utilize my MacBook Pro's processing power to it's fullest! And for the icing on the cake: Glyph is based out of Ithaca, NY where I attended undergrad! So I'm supporting local business as well as totally getting my money's worth! I bought this hard drive because this is the only hard drive that was used at the studios that I have worked at. I figured if professionals trusted their priceless master sessions to be saved on this unit then I should do the same, and I was right!!! This thing flies!! I was using a standard WD usb drive before and my sessions were constantly freezing from trying to play catch up with the system. Those days are behind me now with my Glyph. I Highly recommend it.

This is the storage for my home music server. I rip CDs from a base Mac Mini direct to the Glyph. I play the music stored on the Glyph using iTunes, porting it through a MusicStream II+ DAC as an analog signal into my receiver. Setup was easy and the unit has been fast in use as the server. What I need now is a second Glyph to act as backup as ripping 100's of CD has been painful and not to be repeated!!
