I purchased this item to replace the stock plastic gimbal from my Steadicam Merlin. The fact that the stock gimbal was made of plastic was a concern of mine, so I looked into this metal gimbal. When I received the new metal gimbal replacement, I didn't notice a vast improvement of the materials. I was expecting to see more metal parts but after carefully comparing it with my stock plastic gimbal, I did not see the value of this investment, so I returned it. In my humble opinion, if your stock plastic gimbal is in good condition, I see no reason for the metal gimbal upgrade. However, if you damaged your gimbal and need a new one, this gimbal will works perfectly fine.

I needed a replacement gimbal for my Merlin and Sony EX-1 after an accident. The metal gimbal allows me to use the camera and a wireless mic receiver...as it extends its weight limit. It's certainly maxing it out, but works great.
