I bought this to replace my Elura 100 which broke and haven't been disappointed. This camcorder is easy to use, has great battery life, and the flash memory gives you plenty of recording time. The first thing I shot was a production my son was in and he was virtually in the dark a few times and the camera still picked up a decent image. I had no problem downloading the footage to my computer using the Pixella software. All in all I'm impressed with this camcorder.

No joke.... read the manual. Much easier to operate when you have the book in your brain. Not a unit that you can pick up and just start shooting. I love this camcorder. Takes great quality video for the price.

i guess i cant complain too much about this camera, considering the price i paid for it [$]the camera is mid-pack compared to the other two camcorders that i've tried, and thats exactly what it is: middle class. it does an okay job at everything you want to do, but not doing an excellent job at any of them.PROS: very lightweight and compact, has a LED light to help for night shots (very helpful because this camera does not do very well when on "night mode" so just do normal mode and turn the spot light on), good battery life, good zoom capability, menu system easy to understand and use (i figured it out myself in half hour without reading the manual). and lastly, the lens cover is automatic (opens and closes on its own) so you dont have to think about it when trying to capture spur-of-the-moment stuff. CONS: as mentioned above, not good when on night mode, read/write speeds are slower than i expected considering the fact that its supposed to be a SSD (embedded hard drive), even slower read/write speed if recording to SD or SDHC card (but this one is somewhat expected), requires that you plug in power cable when transferring files to the computer (why? i dont understand this one, even if my battery is full, it still demands that i plug in the power cord, annoying!). And lastly, no touchscreen lcd. using the buttons and the joystick near the lcd screen is cumbersome in my opinion

I bought this camcorder 2 weeks before taking an Alaskan Cruise. The last camcorder I had was from the late '80s. What an amazing piece of equipment for the novice. Out of the box, I charged the battery, read the quick start directions (amazing for a guy) and started filming. We took the cruise, used the camera alot, in mid 30 to 70 degree temps and what amazing results. Did I mention it's the size of the battery on my old RCA videotape camcorder? It does still pix too. It's a Canon, I'd expect nothing less. What a great piece of equipment and great video from the trip!!!

Bought this camera to take on a trip to Washington DC. It performed beautifully. Easy controls. Menus took a little effort to learn. Zoom is very good but needs a tripod at full zoom. Got great detail of the capitol ceiling. Sound is great. Extremely light and small. I have small hands and it took no effort to hold the camera or carry it around. For a person who has never had a camcorder before, it fulfilled all my expectations and more. I haven't downloaded anything yet.

I needed this product to shoot videos for streaming online. I couldn't afford a HD camcorder (and I also don't have the space to store HD files). This camera is a wonderful quality & it interfaces very well with Adobe Premiere. There are only some instances of dropped frames from the transfer.

We bought this camcorder for a trip we are about to take to Europe. After much deliberations we settled on this one having rummaged through camcorders in the 250-350 price range. This camcorder has the versatility with the on board 16GB of memory and card slot both. Also the picture quality was the highest of the ones we were looking at. In the end we went with this camcorder because of the higher quality and we don't want to gamble with our once-in-a-lifetime trip. The camcorder seems to work amazingly well in our tests around the house and even in the dark with the built-in LED (another reason for this choice.) I don't think that you could find a better deal with all the features of this camcorder and the quality of a Cannon. Very impressed with the camcorder [...]

Yeah, you won't look professional, yeah you'll have to get a mono or tripod, yeah it's small in my big hands.... but dang! This little camera has some great features and "on the fly" effect options!

I use it for doing video at horse shows where I'm allowed in the center of the arena. I have this little guy on a monopod and no one even takes notice of me. Which is nice, because then I don't become a distraction.

I record directly to SD cards and my assistant burns a DVD while I record my next video!

Nice and compact with professional quality video, and my favorite feature: I can change the shutter speed!

Thank you Canon for another awesome product. I'm a fan for life!

First of all I was surprised at how small this camera really is. This can be both good and bad. It's good because you can just about put it in your pocket and take it anywhere. Bad because it can be a tad difficult to hold steady, especially when trying to take still photos (my advice, use a camera made for taking still photos to take still photos).
Overall, it a good little camera, nice zoom, picture and sound, recording time, view finder, and features. Beware of shooting in low light however as the picture can become very grainy.
I would recommend this little guy for anyone who wants a nice small camera and is not ready for HD yet.

It is very light and compact. I agree with other reviews, the software is weak that comes with it. I also think because of it's light weight it tends to make it a little shakier than I would like. The zoom is very nice and smooth and the picture is very clear when viewed on my TV.
Very, very simple to operate - love the little toggle switch.

This is my first camcorder and I absolutely love it! After borrowing a few older tape camcorders, I researched and decided I wanted one with flash memory and an internal hard drive as well, just in case I forgot a memory card. This camera was very easy to operate, and since it is small, easy to pack/carry through the Grand Canyon on my vacation. The quality of video is excellent and making video's when we got home was easy to do. The only drawback is that the buttons are small, so if you have larger hands/fingers, it is a little difficult to maneuver. Other than that, this is a great camcorder for anyone!

First of all, I'm a Cannon lover. All of my still equipment is Cannon EOS, so I'm a bit biased.

We recently took this camera on a vacation to Arizona, and it did a great job. The size is great (I could dangle it on my wrist with a strap while taking stills, and then quickly switch to the camcorder.) Its light weight and tiny size are a definate plus. The picture quality is fine for the price of the camera, and the exposures were very good no matter what lighting conditions.

Two points keep me from giving this five stars. One, it's hard to know whether you're recording or not. The problem is also one of the camera's benefits -- there are no moving parts - no vibration at all -- so the only way to tell is a small red dot on the screen, which in bright sun is almost impossible to see. Secondly, the microphones are extremely sensitive to wind -- even the slightest wind causes a thunderous noise on the videos. To my knowledge, there are no "wind socks" available as a cover, but this camera defintely needs something to blot out the "wind sound."

Other than these two (relatively) minor faults, it's a great little camera, especially for it's size and price!!

After months of deliberating about which to camcorder to get, I finally choose the FS11. I decided not to spend the $1000+ for an HD with a built in hard drive. Took it on a family vacation last weekend and really liked how easy it was to use. I never looked at the directions and found the menu very easy to navigate. Even my kids figured it out! Video quality is good and the photo quality is ok. The only issue I have with it is it is a little small for my hands.

I need to make a softball skills video for my daughter to submit to college coaches. I needed a camera that has decent picture quality and image stabilier. I read that the picture quality was not so great in low light, but that is not an issue because most of my video will be shot outside during daytime hours. This camera is great for the price I paid. I will use Photoshop Premier to edit.

B&H Photo was terrific. The price I paid for the camera, tripod, memory card, carrying case was less than what I would have for just the camera at another store. I liked that their web site was laid out with the accessories needed for the product. Ordering was easy and I had my product the next day.

We bought this camcorder as a wedding gift. We tested it to make sure it is good. The movie quality was very good. The sound was clear but sounded weird when played back on the camera. When the movie was played on the computer, the sound was perfect. It is a bit annoying to have to connect the camcorder to power while downloading the movies to the computer.
