The Olympus Stylus 850SW is very durable; it has already survived a two-foot fall from a table. I use it when trail riding on my horses and have found that it can handle the rough treatment that involves. It takes very good photos, especially when using the Olympus Type M+ XD-picture card. I have not had the opportunity to test it under all circumstances; until now, however, it has met my expectations. Its lag time is a little longer than that of my other camera (a Fujifilm Finepix), but not enough so to be troublesome. Its controls are easy to operate. The camera is very small, so that persons with large hands might feel somewhat clumsy with it. On the other hand, its small size and durability allow one to carry it successfully in a pocket or a saddle bag.In order to use an AC adapter with this camera, one must also purchase a coupler. This information is pretty well hidden in the fine print near the back of the manual. An AC adapter is a must for me because I spend a lot of time moving photos between my computer and my cameras. The coupler and the adapter added about $75 to the price of this camera, a fact that I did not know until I had already bought the camera.

Purchased this camera in March 2008 and in October 2008 we had to have the inside LCD screen replaced because it cracked. Again, the LCD screen needs to be replaced. This camera has no dents, chips or scratches on it. We treat it with respect and yet have had many problems with it. When it did work the pictures were great and it was easy to use but for the cost I would suggest a different camera.

I bought this camera to take underwater pictures on my vacations, but I haven't taken any yet.
I've already used it under the rain without problem.
It is great to have a camera that you can use everywhere and under every weather condition.

Comments about Olympus Stylus 850 SW Digital Camera (Black):
This is the third Olympus SW Digital camera that I have purchased. My first, the 770 SW, is the one I carry with me wherever I go! As a medic, I am often in some pretty tight, rough quarters. Satisfied with its performance both above and below the water. I have since purchased 2 more SW's for my extreme 17 year olds. Whether snowboarding or snorkeling, these are reliable cameras with more than adequate image quality. This solid digital camera line has documented many of my families precious moments. They have fallen in the sand and then washed off and kept on going. Try doing that with any other point and shoot!

Comments about Olympus Stylus 850 SW Digital Camera (Black):
The 850SW is a nice little camera though it is bigger than others with the same features. I guess it's due to the waterproof/shockproof design. The lens is inside the body so it never extends which is a nice feature for safety of the lens. Picture quality is good but not as sharp or colorful as my Canon 850IS, though it is a more expensive camera with a different target audience.

Comments about Olympus Stylus 850 SW Digital Camera (Black):
Excellent camera for the money. Many great features. I like the micro chooses for flowers and small objects. For night photos, camera needs to be placed on a very solid platform to avoid shake. Purchased primarily for the waterproofing and shock absorbing. In-camera editing does not allow zoom or cropping the picture. Max telephoto gives fuzzy pictures when blow up (probably have to use max pixels for better photos). Great versatility using either XD cards or Micro SD. Recommend getting an additional battery. Overall a great camera that slips into a shirt pocket.

Comments about Olympus Stylus 850 SW Digital Camera (Black):
Purchased this camera for casual and work photography. What caught my attention was that the camera is shockproof and waterproof. However, the picture quality (ultimate product regardless of how many features you have) is poor. No matter how much you play with the settings, pictures always come out grainy. After asking a couple of people who have this brand, seems like a general problem with it.

I bought this camera for a gift for a family with a new born and a 2 and a half year old. They love it and don't have to worry about it being dropped in the toilet or spit-up on, because it is so durable. The fast picture taking allows them to capture every cute kid moment! I and the family would highly recommend it.

This camera went to my daughter-in-law. We've used many point and shoot cameras in the family the past several years. What's not to like about the rainy day, pool friendly, beach loving Stylus 850SW? With three sons now and a daughter on the way, this camera makes it easy for her to shoot quality digital photos in the backyard here in NJ to our lake paradise vacation spot in Minnesota. Olympus has a specialty camera worth owning in the 850.

Comments about Olympus Stylus 850 SW Digital Camera (Black):
We just purchased this new digital camera for our up-coming vacation to Disney World in Florida and have taken several photos. We are very pleased with the overall design, size and picture quality. It beats all our other cameras as far as the amount of pixels and detail. Plus, we don't have to worry about dropping it or getting it wet. It's a great camera overall.
