I am using this tripod on a Sony HDR-UX20 camera. The tripod is very easy to use you have the option of a slow zoom or with the switch pushed to the off position you then can control the speed of the zoom to slow moderate or a very fast zoom... i.e(zooming very fast on to a ringing telephone) for an effects shot. The power switch on the handle turns the camera off and on without having to turn the power on in the camera. There is also the ability to turn the guide frame that shows on the LCD screen off or on from the handle of this tripod, and another neat(cool) handy feature is that there is a button on the tripod handle that allows you to take still pictures which really came in handy when I was doing a video of a wedding. I was able to take a few still shots during the wedding while filming. The fluid head is also really nice, smooth non jerky pans and vertical movement of the camera on this tripod head is also super smooth. I also have found that If I want to do a dolly shot I just leave the camera on the tripod and fold the legs in a bit and walk toward the subject that I want to dolly in on.The combined weight of the camera and the tripod makes for a pretty steady dolly shot (walking in or backing up while the bride and goom are walking out of the church etc. Hope this helps.

I do indoor and outdoor filming using a Sony Camcorder. This tripod is easy to set up and adjust. The tilt and pan mechanisms are very smooth. The remote control is very easy to use and the slow zoom mechanism very nice.
BUT the design and weight are too flimsy. Even at close shooting range, on a solid, smooth surface, without any zoom, videos show motion shake when there is the slightest breeze - including just my movements around the tripod on a windless day.
Part of the problem is the tripod weight. Part of the problem is the counter-balanced weight of the remote control - it is set off from the center of gravity of the tripod and the remote control handle weight acts to amplify any motion when touched or in a slight breeze. Once in a pan or tilt, motion is smooth. At the start and end of intended movements there is noticeable jumping and shaking in recorded videos. Even for a fixed frame, in the slightest wind, without having the remote handle installed, frame jump and shake is noticeable on all video.
Great for indoors. I CANNOT recommend it for outdoor even if there is absolutely no wind and the remote control handle is not used and no zoom or telephoto lens is used.
When the elevator is raised, the shake is amplified even more.
If I use it outdoors, I have to use sandbag weights, a LANC extension cord to my remote control and do no panning for a steady, shake-free video or still.

I use the VCT-60AV Tripod for shooting family videos and small production projects. The tripod is not only solid and sturdy but the oil fluid head makes for super smooth pan and tilts. More Importantly, the Remote grip allows for ease of operation and capturing the best shots possible.
This tripod is a must buy!

I do weddings often. One of my cameras is a Sony HC7. Having the ability to zoom in and out (and a slow OR fast zoom depending on how hard to push the toggle) without having to touch the camera is a huge plus! No more slight shakes when I touch the camera! Now if I could only get a little control like this for my Merlin Steadicam :-/

This tripod works great. I have a Sony camcorder and it work really well with it. I really like being able to sit down and use the "remote" on the handle to videotape. You have to plug the remote into the side of the camera so it isn't really a real remote. The best part of the tripod is how smoothly it works.

Comments about Sony VCT-60AV Tripod with Remote in Grip:
Although the Sony SX-44 has touch screen commands the remote on this tripod is quite a bit more convenient to use. The slow zoom switch is also a nice feature.the fluid head is very smooth even when following a subject that is pacing back and forth. the up and down pan is smoth but tight even at the loosest setting which causes the tripod to lift a leg.the remote can also be used to take still photos, if your camera is so equipped, and has a button for dividing the screen into a nine grid.I got it with a $50 rebate but even at the full price of ~[$] it would be worth it!

Comments about Sony VCT-60AV Tripod with Remote in Grip:
The legs are too skinny. The remote is not universal. Cheesy camera plate. Unlike the VCT870RM. That tripod was great, that's probably why they got rid of it. ...it was reasonably priced 115.00, sturdy, lightweight, well made, Universal (or so) camera plate and remote, easy unlock legs.
I recommend that Sony look into bring back those tripods.

Smooth , functional, and nice carrying bag with them too! There is however no video out when using the remote. In other words you cannot use the tripod remote if youre shooting live and want to go into a mixer/switch.
I thought there was composite out of the remote handle, but there is not, (slightly disappointing)
Other than that great product!

Comments about Sony VCT-60AV Tripod with Remote in Grip:
I use this tripod with my Sony HDR-CX350V Handycam. It is by far the best tripod I have ever owned. It is smooth, stable and works seamlessly with my new Handycam. I love the zoom, record and grid button selection built into the handle. This is a very functional feature, especially when you consider the cost of this tripod. Great value for the price. The hydraulic head smooths out the jerkiness I have experienced with previous tripods.
My only complaint is that the handle feels a little flimsy when panning side to side, up and down... but otherwise I really like this tripod. I hope it lasts.
It stores compact, comes with a nice little bag and it uses the camcorder for a power source... so there is no need for additional batteries in the tripod handle itself. Overall, I would recommend it.

I am a beginning videographer and will be using this tripod to film weddings and such. I have not tested it out at an event yet but fooled around with it a bit at home. Nice smooth head and easy controls. I will be using this tripod with my Sony HDR-HC9. Gives the whole set up a professional look and feel as well as making zoom control much easier.

Comments about Sony VCT-60AV Tripod with Remote in Grip:
If you have a Sony Camera that is compatible with this tripod, you should get this tripod. The controls for zoom allow you to use variable speed zoom, in addition to slow-motion zoom with an extra switch for even more control. There is also a photo button, and of course a button to start and stop video recording. This is the second one I purchased, the first one I lost to the divorce. The first one held up for many years while other more expensive tripods I owned leaked oil and had other problems, this one stayed together with no problems at all. The taller size of this model is a must compared to the smaller model, and doesn't take any more room as collapses to the same size. It comes with a nice carrying case, which is plenty for protection, and gives you a nice strap to throw on your shoulder.

Nice smooth panning and zooming for a professional looking videos. The feature that allows slow speed zooming enhances the video. The pan and tilt head is excellent for a tripod in any price range. Overall a lightweight but sturdy tripod. This is one of Sony's better ideas.[...] I have not been compensated in any way for this review.
