The advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD of the DSC-S780 allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing image noise.
3x Optical Zoom Lens
The 3x zoom provides the equivalent of 35 - 105mm focal length (in 35mm terms) to help bring distant subjects closer and let you frame shots quickly for better composition, and the Smart Zoom feature intelligently "crops into" the central portion of interest in your photo, helping avoid the image degradation caused by the typical digital zoom found on other cameras.

The camera provides high sensitivity of ISO 1250 to permit taking shots in low light or you can shoot without flash to preserve the mood.
