Pentax PH-RBK Overview

The Pentax PH-RBK 77mm Lens Hood is the dedicated lens hood for the Pentax SMCP-DA* 200mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM and 300mm f/4.0 ED (IF) lenses. Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lenses they were designed for.

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Jack, sans Jill, climbed up a hillTo photograph some water.Jack fell down, & flailed around& a lens hood saved his camera.I broke my thumb & one of the rings on the original lens hood. I, unfortunately, have had several falls and equipment drops with my Pentax cameras. The lens hoods took the brunt of the fall each time. The original PH-RBK 77mm lens hood could be used but I opted for this replacement hood. I'd rather replace a lens hood than the camera body. There were 2 cameras involved in this fall while climbing up rock outcroppings overlooking a mill pond. The original PH-RBK took the brunt of the initial fall & was forced onto the body of the lens itself. I broke my thumb, suffered cuts and abraisons, & got a cheap mole removal but, other than a few scrapes thorough the paint on the camera body, the K-5 is still working excellently. The hood on my K-7 was knocked completly off. I firmly beleive in lens hoods that mount externally on the lens rather than those that screw onto the lens like a lens filter. If I'd had a screwed on type, I probably would be replacing a $lens. This is a great hood & I strongly reccommend it.

question

Does it fit the Pentax FA* 200mm 2.8? What's its weight?
Asked by: Yves S.
Pentax PH-RBM77 Lens hood (MFR # 37667) would be the correct lens hood for HD PENTAX-D FA* 70-200mm F2.8 ED DC AW lens. Unfortunately, we do not seem to carry this item as a separate accessory. The best I can recommend would be to e-mail prophoto@bhphotovideo.com to inquire if this is an item we may order separately.

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens has a 77mm thread which would be able to work with this.

question

Can I purchase just the removable cover in the PH-RBK 77mm Pentax lens hood?
Asked by: Anonymous
I think so. The hood I received with my Pentax 200mm was broken, so B&H sent me a new hood in its own box for free, so I believe it's available for purchase too.
