The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH is a feature-rich, pocket-sized, Digital Camera with 8.0 megapixel resolution, a sharp and fast 3x optical zoom lens, and features Canon's advanced Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) system that significantly reduces the image-blurring effects, and helps users achieve the best possible picture quality even in low-light shooting conditions. The camera incorporates Canon's proprietary DIGIC III processor that provides the cameras fast start up, fast autofocus and quick shutter response times, and also improves both the image quality of the camera as well as reducing its power consumption, thereby extending the battery life under typical shooting conditions.
Canon's precise 9-point Autofocus system along with the AF-Point Zoom feature work together with Face Detection Technology to allow users to double check the facial expressions of their subjects, when shooting under more challenging conditions. There are also 18 shooting modes including a fully automatic mode; a semi-automatic "Camera M" mode which allows access to features such as Exposure Compensation and White Balance adjustments for greater creative control.
Streamlining the image review process, Canon's Intelligent Orientation Sensor determines whether a scene is being shot as a vertical or horizontal image and automatically adjusts it for quick and easy review on the camera's bright, sharp and easy-to-read, 230,000-pixel 2.5 inch Pure Color LCD II screen. The Image Inspection Tool feature zooms in on faces automatically during playback to quickly check facial expressions, and the camera also features Automatic Red Eye Correction and in-Camera Photo Trimming.

We bought this camera as a combination lightweight backup for our Nikon D70 and a simple camera for our kids to use. While it is certainly not a replacement for a DSLR, it is a great camera for the money and has exceeded our expectations.
Highlights:
-- Image quality and clarity are very good. The camera comes with a pretty broad set of preset modes that cover most situations well.
-- The camera is very compact; easy to carry and lightweight.
-- Speed and accuracy of focus is better than I expected in a point and shoot. Image stabilization is also well executed.
-- LCD brightness and clarity is excellent.
-- Nice compact charger design that makes it easy to carry on trips.
-- Very attractive and sturdy design.
Limitations:
-- The face detection focus mode periodically gets confused. Not a frequent occurrence, but makes you wish for manual focus options and reminds you of the trade-offs between slick lightweight P&S cameras and heavy highly controllable DSLR's.
-- Zoom is great for the camera's size, but it would be nice to have a bit more optical zoom before dipping into digital zoom. On the other hand, this camera does a great job of showing you where the limits are so you don't unintentionally degrade your photos. Nice example of using a good user interface to manage a physical limitation.
-- Battery life is better than expected for this camera (big LCD's and all those features cause a high drain) but I do carry a spare battery around with me. After getting used to hundreds of shots per charge on my DSLR, had to remind myself that this one will not go nearly as long.
Recommendations:
-- Purchase the silicon gel case for the camera of you'll be lugging it around a lot or letting kids use it. Great protection for the camera.
-- Purchase an extra battery.

I bought this so I would always have a camera with me, even if the quality was not the best. 8 megapixels is just right, not ridiculously big.
The camera handles amazingly fast, much better than the G9. Battery life is OK.
The price you pay for its other virtues is that it's really noisy. In low light it's really unacceptable. If I'd known how noisy it is I probably would have given this purchase more thought. The other thing I don't like is that there is not manual control of shutter so it's useless for long blurry exposures, which I love to do.

Easy to use, compact and great photo quality. Download process is a bit clunky, especially if you don't download all photos each time. Would have been nice to include a carrying case/pouch too.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH Digital Camera (Rythm & Blue):
I looked at cameras online forever making comparisons and reading reviews. This one was perfect because I can shoot pretty decent quality videos and clear pictures of my two kids. I also love the color accent feature because it makes my pictures look like they were professionally edited. I will say that every now and then the camera delays when I'm trying to shoot multiple images in a row and that can be frustrating, but overall this camera is a great value.

I haven't had the camera for very long, but so far I am very happy! The pictures are very clear, it has easy to use controls, the battery life is pretty good, it has numerous settings so you can get exactly the picture you want...
The only possible negative is its ability to operate in low light--I only tried a few pictures in low light, and they came out pretty bad. But I'm not sure if it was on a bad setting or if it just doesn't operate well in low light.
Basically there were no surprises, I got exactly what was advertised and am very happy!

I take the candid shots in the family and this camera is great because you can always have it with you. It fits in any pocket and is instantly ready for those great "Kodak Moments". We're visiting the grandchildren now so we're in all lighting situations and lots of motion. While I'm still learning all the functions, it's easy and fast to move between them. For a small point and shoot it has manual controls and a large number of options of preset settings. The quality of the pictures has been outstanding! I highly recommend this camera.

I like the size of this camera and the case that came with it. Easy to throw in my purse and have it available whenever I need it. 8 megapixels is nice. I wanted more but it's great for the price. you have to work a little to get the hang out how to manually adjust the settings you want, but once you get there, the camera does a great job with what you ask it to do. and the auto setting does great every time too. overall, nice. not great, but nice.

This is a great camera for grab it and go. I find myself taking this Elph everywere. It's so small and easy to use there is no reason not to have it with you. It takes realy good pictures and is a terrific value. Sure there are better cameras out there but not at this price point.... I have had this camera about a month now and I can say I am really a satisfied customer.

This is a pretty good camera for the money. It is definitely small enough to fit in a pocket or an evening bag. Pictures in natural light look great. I still need to read the manual though because pics I took in a dimly lit ballroom did not come out as well as I had hoped. Most of them look pretty good but some are slightly grainy. Overall, it's a great little camera.
My only major complaint is that it takes too long in between pictures when you have the flash on. If you push the shutter button too soon, it just won't take a picture and you have to start the waiting time all over again. There may be some sort of setting to take pictures in quick succession but I haven't read the manual yet.

This camera was purchased to replace one that was stolen. My son didn't want anything but what he had. That says a great deal about the piece of gear. It is used to take pictures of the landscaping he builds. The pix are then used in his brochure.

The camera was purchased for me to use to photo our first grandchild. I have found it easy to use, fun to try different methods to shoot photos, and pretty intuitive. The fact that it has image stabilization is very helpful and the lack of "wait" time between pressing the button and the taking of the photo makes it easy to get action shots. Its small size is a real bonus.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH Digital Camera (Rythm & Blue):
This camera is excellent, easy to use, and takes steady, non-blurry shots much better than my previous (Nikon) camera. The only minor problem I've run across is that I wish it had a more effective red-eye-reduction type of flash.
Other than that, the camera is great, but I have only figured out how to transfer pictures to my computer using the Canon "Camera Window DC" software program that it came with, which is frustrating to use for several reasons: it opens very slowly because first it has to load each picture stored on the camera every time you open it, it doesn't let you select and delete pictures on the camera through the program, and worst of all, I cannot find any settings that will let me bypass using this program in order to simply open and view my camera in a folder as if it were an external harddrive (which would let me have the most freedom to transfer, view, and delete photos). If this camera weren't so linked to the non-user-friendly commercial software that came with it, I would give it 5 stars.
