The Lastolite Ezybox Hot Shoe Softbox is designed to fit most manufacturers' hot shoe, tilt-head flashes. It has a 24 x 24" front face, and its depth is sufficient to provide real softening of the flash. It assembles easily in minutes. Add a tilt-bracket of your choice for more aiming control.

I recently picked up this 24"x24" Ezybox, and it's my first softbox. I was looking for something that would give me better and more directional light than my shoot-through umbrella, and it certainly delivers.
The Ezybox hotshoe is lightweight, quick to set up, and highly portable. There are no metal rods to insert, just simple plastic ribs that hold the whole thing together. Even the mounting ring at the back is 100% plastic and is magically held in place by virtue of the tension from the four surrounding plastic ribs or hoops. This makes it very easy to set up, but less secure than a more robust metal mounting bracket with screws or bolts.
In my initial tests the quality of light is great, so the product seems to deliver on its promise of being an "Ezy" source of great light. Besides the "hope it stays put" mounting bracket, the only other drawback is that once you let the softbox escape from the tiny 10" canvas sack that it's initially folded into, re-folding into that same pouch is quite the challenge. It's very easy to fold it into a nice flat triangle shape (which is very handy in its own right), but crunching and twisting the whole unit back into the bag requires both patience and faith that you're not breaking the product. Unfortunately, although the main product website has a ton of videos, there is not a single one showing how to best get the genie back in the bottle!

I use only speed lights for my lighting as I am only a location photographer. So when I saw this soft box kit and learned that it was for speed lights, I bought one and was very excited to start using it. The construction of the box itself is great. It sets up and tears down very easy and is very compact and light weight. The reason I gave it a three star is because of the hot shoe holder on the bracket. It has absolutely no way to lock your flash to it, which resulted to me dropping my brand new $500 flash onto the pavement. My flash survived, but took some beating. Even though I gave this kit a three star, I still highly recommend it, as I haven't seen anything else on the market for the location photographer. If you choose to buy this kit, I suggest that you tether your flash to the bracket so that it doesn't take a nasty fall.

Wow! This exceeded my expectations. I was torn between this and the Westcott, but opted for this because of it's noted durability. It's extremely well built.
Onto the use...I'm not a pro, just and avid hobbyist looking to take the next step. I've had a canon 580 ex II for two years and barely got any use out of it. I then went and bought pocketwizards and WOW!
Now I have this modifier and my portraits are amazing!

This is my first purchase of one of these cool speedlight modifiers, and I'm happy with my choice. The Ezybox is simple to set up and use, and provides a nice soft light. The front diffusion panel is held on with velcro, and there is an additional panel that mounts inside(also with velcro) to provide even softer light. The softbox folds flat, as opposed to rolling up, so it won't fit in a "lightstand bag". The flash bracket is 2-piece, works well and holds the flash securely. The bracket itself does not tilt, but it can be mounted on an umbrella bracket for that purpose. Overall very happy, just wish it would fit in a camera bag. And a little pricey, but as I said, well built.

I purchased this as a possible replacement for a shoot-through umbrella. Although this would be better in the wind, and is very well constructed, it just wasn't as soft as a 43" shoot-through. I may try their bigger version at some point, but the cost is rather high.

This softbox kit is incredible, obviously you have to have an assistant, but I have used this time and again and has given me incredible results. I would defintely recommend this for outdoor shoots where you are on the go! I use it with a monopod.
I gave it 4.5 stars only because you have to figure out a way to secure your flash.

I got the soft box to use for a senior shoot and was very pleased with the results. Produces a beautiful soft quality light, very similar to window light. I lit it with a Canon 580EX II using the ETTL feature and got outstanding results. Easy and fast to set up and folds down and stores in a case that is included. Great product

The Lastolite Ezybox is a great if you're looking for a softbox to use with a speedlite. It's lightweight, yet sturdy and built well. It's easy to setup and I can mount it on my lightstand or on a monopod with a spigot.
One con about is the flash mount. I don't trust it with my Canon flashes because you can only slide it on and can't use the flash lock. I'd rather use a hotshot flash bracket anyway since I plan to use a flash trigger with it. So I just ran down to my nearby hardware store to pick up nylon washers so I could use a 1/4 inch bolt to screw into the flash bracket. Tested it out and works great!
Other than that, the Ezybox Softbox is perfect for my Speedlite setup and can't wait to put it to use.

Does what it says. I like the new much larger zip-up cover. Simple to use and is effective. Easily gets feathering. Excellent portrait softbox for one, two or even three. Need to use this real close and increase the flash output to compensate. It makes excellent light outdoors. I broke two umbrellas because of the wind. This is the ticket. Sets up and tears down quick and easy, stores flat about 1.5 inches wide. Got to pay the bucks to get the best.

I purchased this product because I needed something light and easily manageable that I could carry around on foot and use with my Nikon SB 900's. It comes in a zippered carry bag, pops open in a second, couldn't be easier to mount on the bracket and folds back down in seconds. I've only been using it for about a month, but I'm very happy with it.

I put on environmental portraiture workshops and I needed an untethered softbox to demonstrate location lighting using a speedlite and softbox. I am impressed with the quality of workmanship and the new "lolipop" bracket for attaching the SB-800. A bonus is the ease of attaching a warming filter when needed. A quality product that i can recommend to my students.

This is a very well built light modifier for a speedlight. Solid construction, fast setup/take down, and does a super job with softening the light. Unlike other reviewers, I found the M2 bracket to mount fairly securely to the box; if in doubt you can always add a little gaffer tape. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the less then ideal mounting shoe. I simply added another manufacturers shoe with a screw clampdown and it works great now. Since this is a premium priced product I should not have had to do any modifications out of the box. Nevertheless, Lastolite has a very good product and I'd buy more in the future. And I can't understand the reviewers who say that the softbox is too hard to pack back down....nothing could be simpler!

Produces nice light, easy assembly, clever bracket and better quality material than auction offerings. But very expensive for what it is and will dislodge from bracket when used outside in slightest wind

i use this for potraits both inside and outside when i can't use my studio lights. i like it a lot. there is a really nice quality to the light and i like that i can use my canon 580 ex2 with it. i trigger the flash with pocketwizards using ettl. it is very easy to set up and take down. it fits nicely on a stand. i would recommedn getting the lastolite tilt head as an accessory so that you can tilt the softbox as you like. the softbox seems to be best when no more than 8 feet away from subject. i've only used it for one person, but i think it would work okay for 2 or 3 people if positioned correctly.

I really enjoy using my Ezybox, but the first shoot I took it out on, the plastic hotshoe mount where I put my SB-900 split, nearly dropping my speedlight to the floor. I need to get it replaced, but I improvised a metal mount out of a bolt and some washers from [...] and a cold-shoe that I had lying around.Great box, just FIX THE MOUNT!

[...]Good quality and durable fabric materials. Surely it will last for several years ahead. I owned previously to this one a 18x18" SB from interfit, which brought a speedring with a ballhead, which I see myself missing in this one, because I cannot direct the light the way I want with the plastic speedring that comes included. That means that the speedring is fixed and the angle of the light will be always 90 degrees respective to the stand where you hold the speedring. That's the only reason I rate it 4 stars.
