Its patented print head technology and 5-color ink system let you create spectacular photos with impressive detail and clarity, while providing exceptional quality for all of your business documents from cover letters to full color presentations. The Canon Pixma iP100 Photo Printer is also fast - with print speeds of up to 20 pages per minute (ppm) for black and up to 14 ppm for color. You can also produce borderless prints, with stunning edge-to-edge quality and razor-sharp detail - and in only about 50 seconds, you can print a 4" x 6" photo with the look and feel of a traditional photograph.
The printer includes the Canon exclusive Auto Image Fix feature that helps you produce amazing results on all your photos. First, it categorizes your images into one of five types - Portrait, Scenery, Night Scenery, Snapshot with Scenery, and Snapshot with Night Scenery - then it applies optimal image correction accordingly. For further convenience, you can connect any PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder directly to the iP100 printer and print photos-no PC required.
The Canon Pixma iP100 is also a Green Product, applying a number of Canon's Generation Green characteristics. There are printing options such as 4-in-1 & 2-in-1 printing that allow users to place multiple pages on 1 page, saving up to 75% of your paper supply. The Ink Saver Mode allows you to use less ink when printing in order to make your ink supply last longer and reduce the number of wasted ink cartridges. Like many people, the space in my home office is limited. So my reason for choosing a "portable" printer was simply the smaller footprint in my home office. When you go shopping for printers these days, most of the popular products are "all-in-ones" that integrate the printer with a scanner and even fax machine. But I didn't want one of those, because I already have a separate scanner that I use occasionally, and again because of the footprint. Another consideration for me was that I anticipate moving again in another year or so, and even though a printer is only one item, the small and lighter that each item is, the better. These are all reasons why I am presently using a notebook computer (a MacBook Pro) for my home computer. Once I had decided on a portable printer, the choices were pretty much limited to the Canon and the similar printer by HP, but the user reviews consistently favored the Canon. Having been a consumer of Canon products for many years, I know from experience that they take pride in the quality of their products. Installing any printer these days is pretty much a walk in the park, and unless you are looking to get professional grade results from color prints, there isn't much difference in quality either. The speed of printing was more than adequate for my needs, and I just couldn't find any reason to hesitate to buy this printer. The only question was whether I was willing to pay more to get something more compact and lighter in weight. I have discovered that I really, really like having this small, compact printer sitting on the small table next to my computer, and not some great big all-in-one, or even a large conventional desktop printer. The extra money was well spent in my view. No regrets, although I should mention that I have not yet owned it long enough to have a sense for what the ongoing cost of ink is going to be.

2. This printer is wireless "capable." A separate device is required to print via wireless connection. The features say it is bluetooth capable from select devices, not that you need a seperate device to make it work.
Conclusion: You CANNOT use this printer directly out of the box. You must purchase the cable/bluetooth or it is useless. I wish the description had specified this.

Small, compact and easy to travel with. Wish it had a bag/sleeve - I have scratched it up somewhat in travel. Pricey for what it is.
Laptop does not always recognize the printer. At times it runs a series of clicks and whurs for about 30 secs before deciding to print - annoying when you are in a rush. When it does print it runs fast.

I purchased this printer for traveling so that I can step away from the $10-$15 business center charges for accessing a computer and printer. The printer travels well in my checked suitcase. During a recent around-the-world trip, the printer performed flawlessly at a couple of critical junctures when I needed to have printed material quickly. I haven't used the printer for high quality prints like photos but for every day prints, color or black and white, this printer delivers.
I don't have any information regarding how long the ink lasts but on its first trip, I printed roughly 50 pages and I'm still going strong. I've decided to carry a backup print cartridge just incase it starts running out.
I read Canon's description of the battery pack and decided that for my uses there was little benefit and no savings in travel weight. I'm still considering the Bluetooth wireless adapter as it looks like I could eliminate one additional cord from my travel case.

I'm assurance appraiser. I bought this as an exact replacement for my 3 hour old company issued printer that my 5 year old pulled off of my desk and broke (it luckily landed right on the a/c chord input and broke the jack). I work on the road, and so having something small and portable is important to me.
The Pixma iP100 fits the bill.
Downside - the ink runs out incredibly fast.
I'm not sure how much rough handling the printer can handle, but I bought the warranty, so even if it breaks, I should be covered.
Also, B&H's price was better than I found anywhere else on the web (and it came with a special $50 American Express gift card!)

Good printer for mobility. A little bit pricey compared to the all-in-ones that are larger, but I guess you pay for size. It would be nice if it had wireless or Bluetooth built in without having to buy another expensive adapter. No problems with it yet. Prints well and was easy to setup.
