The Olympus Stylus 1030SW Digital Camera is incredibly durable, combining rugged body construction with shock-absorbing materials and waterproof seals, making it the pocket camera of choice for divers, surfers, skiers, and all sorts of adventure seekers who wish to document their experiences in pictures and video.
The rugged metal body and revolutionary shock-absorbing construction are designed to withstand a 6.6-foot fall or other impact, while the innovative waterproof seals and gaskets allow you to take underwater movies and pictures as deep as 33 feet. The camera is also freezeproof, so that it can function at below-freezing temperatures as low as -14°F (perfect for skiing and other winter activities), and it is even crush resistant to a load of 220 pounds.
The Stylus 1030SW incorporates a high quality 3.6x wide angle zoom lens and a capture resolution of 10.1 megapixels to provide beautiful images. Plus it is loaded with features to make shooting easy and fun. An extensive selection of shooting modes built into the camera cover many common shooting situations including Candle, Sports and Underwater modes. Users are therefore ready to take perfect shots with a minimum of fuss and effort.
Other unique features include Face Detection which tracks faces and automatically focuses and optimizes exposure for sharp, brilliant portrait pictures. It also has Digital Image Stabilization that uses the camera's high ISO sensitivity and faster shutter speeds to freeze the action and capture sharp blur-free images, even if you or your subject is moving.
In addition, the camera has a built-in LED that illuminates your subjects when you can't use a flash - perfect for shooting macro or low-light portraits. The camera also features 14.7MB of internal built-in memory and an xD-Picture Card slot that allows you to expand the memory to over 2GB, providing enough storage capacity for hundreds of images.

I purchased this camera for myself. I live and work outdoors in adverse conditions. I have only owned it for a few weeks, but have already used it at the beach while surfing. It performed well. I have also dropped it numerous times, with only small nicks on the casing as a result. I have yet to really put it through it's paces, but so far it's all they said it was.
A few negatives so far...
-Need to clean lens after water use, b/c water spots last if you don't.
-The flash is easily obscured by your finger and can have dark spots in pictures.
-The camera will sink. Plan to use a flotation device if used in deeper water.
Overall, I am in love with this camera and am looking forward to years of enjoyment from this camera.

I love how wide the lens is on this camera! Much wider than any other camera I've had recently. I took this camera on a river rafting trip for three days and on the last day I had some fogging in the lens. By the end of the trip I could hardly see anything. This happened without really having the camera submerged and was mainly just splashed a lot.

I purchased the Stylus 1030 SW a few weeks before my husband and I left on a 7 day cruise to the St. Thomas. We were planning on snorkeling and I really wanted a camera that I could depend on to take great pictures. I was so pleased with it's performance. In addition, I had quite a few other traverlers shocked that this camera was water proof. I would recommend this camera to anyone who is planning on being in or around the water or outdoors. I even wish that I had, had this camera last year while trying to take photos outside during Hurricane Faye, rather than the camera that I had at the time in a zip lock bag!

Bought the camera for a trip to Cozumel, Mexico.
Used in underwater shots and beach shots. Overall very good quality pictures for a point and shoot. Camera was great for shots that you couldn't take with a regular camera without an underwater housing.

I love this camera but wish olympus would give a better zoom. I have taken this out skiing and it took wonderful pictures. I previously had the Stylus 790SW and because this has 10.1 pixel the picture quality is a little better. I am very hard on my cameras, I am an outdoorsy person and my cameras take a beating. Olympus stands up to my torture!

I got this camera specifically for a mission trip to Africa. I wanted something small and easy to carry, yet durable and ready for anything that Africa, 3 degrees below the equator might throw at it. Of course, I won't know until I get there, but it certainly looks GOOD. I love the panarama setting when I can find it. I think this is going to be exactly what I need for this trip.

Well, how do I say this politely? Hmmm...a girl that I was dating threw my last point and shoot against the wall and broke it so I needed a replacement. I love to scuba dive and just can't bring myself to take my SLR 100 feet underwater. So, I had the housing and full setup for my last (Canon) Point and Shoot and SLAM, I am out like $650 all at once.
I bought this as it's replacemet and wanted something a little more durable in case I date her again...don't say it, I know. So far, I have had this camera underwater, in the snow and dropped it once. It is a real trooper! I take it everywhere.
I was a little concerned about the quality of the pictures it would take after reading some of the other reviews but I must say I am impressed. I guess I do not know what people expect from a point and shoot. It is fast, flexible and takes pictures that aren't as good as my $7,000 SLR...hello! of course! Now, if you aim to shoot weddings, protraits, etc then I highly suggest you look at some other offerings. BUT if you want to shoot fun family and friend pictures with a camera that is small and rugged, then I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better camera except perhaps the newer model when it is available!
My only isssue so far is that it is a little difficult to turn on the LED flashlight, which is a must for clear pictures in very low light situations. Hope that helps!!

This camera is great, easy to use and understand, not to mention submersible, and extremely rugged. This camera has gone to Iraq, and got abused, but shoots just like new!!!

Comments about Olympus Stylus 1030 SW Digital Camera (Green):
This is the 3rd waterproof camera our family has bought in 3 years ( 2 Pentax Optios before this one, the w10 and w30 ). Sooner or later, they all seem to leak and then it is game over. That is why this time around, I got the 3-year accident insurance. While the pentax's were pretty good, they were not quite a replacement for a non-waterproof camera in terms of picture quality. This camera has really impressed us for the last month. It has really impressive underwater performance. I like the wider angle lens and also I notice a much superior ability to focus on more distance objects underwater in comparison to our previous cameras. This has made for some much superior pictures of the kids playing underwater. Also the movie mode is really fun. The audio even picks up a little underwater so I can hear the kids making noise underwater, which is pretty funny on playback. One thing I dislike about movie mode is that at the highest quality setting only 10 secs of recording is allowed and the camera automatically stops recording. I couldn't find anyway to extend this recording and 10 secs is too short. 30 secs or so would have been really a lot nicer. Above water, the camera does great and is nice and compact so it is easy to bring along. I am very impressed with how fast the LCD picture review works. It seems lightning fast compared to our previous cameras.

Bought this camera to bring on vacation to the Caribbean. First day, within 1 hour of arrival, I went to the beach with my family. We decided to walk to beachside BBQ restaurant along water's edge and WHAM! I was knocked down into large rocks (we'll call them bad rocks) and into the water! The brand new camera was in my straw bag and of course landed against a rock in the water. Despite it's rough first day it held up just as promised...LOVE THE CAMERA for that. Any other camera would have been broken on day one in hour one. Pictures were terrific, although I didn't follow the full directions when we tried to take panoramas...too anxious and moved to 2nd and 3rd frame too soon...but pictures weren't too bad anyway. I will be buying this same camera for my daughter's birthday. It's fun and it delivers. It was a little difficult seeing what I was taking picture of when the bright sunlight was hitting the LCD, but any camera without a viewfinder will have same issue. All in all, I am extremely satisfied.

This camera is bullet proof. Great for my wife. She can throw it in her purse, let the grand kids play with it and drool on it. I don't have to worry about it not holding up. I bought two. I use mine on job sites. It holds up against knocks, drops and dust.

A solid camera that will hold up to a lot of abuse and still take shots. You can take this camera with you in your pocket wherever you go and not worry about it. If you spend your time out on the trail, crossing streams, backpacking, camping, or anywhere that could be rough on delicate equipment it's a worthwhile investment. Taking photos underwater is also a blast.

I bought the SW-1030 for my vacation in Maui, so as not to risk my DSLR with salt water, sand, Etc.
It surprized me how powerful point-and-shoots have become these days! The panorama mode didn't always get it right when the sun is one of the frames, but the macro mode really gets in tight and sharp. Color saturation is fantastic, and being able to shoot the tropical fish was a bonus. You can get a whole day out of the battery as long as you don't leave it on all the time.
Highly recommended for the point and shoot crowd.

First off I am left handed. That being said, the only flaw this camera has is that it's designed for right handers. Yet all camera are designed that way so if anyone comes up with this in a left handed design then I'd trade it in. I've taken it to the beach with the dogs and it's still great even seems to have better photos with the bright reflected ocean light but it still does well at a late night concert but to be honest I didn't have the settings fully dialed in so the image quality was better in video mode than photo but maybe by the next show I'll know which setting to use since the fireworks option just makes great light trails ;-)~
I love that the lens isn't a expanding because I've had two other digital cameras before that jammed up with something holding the lens open. This camera on the other hand doesn't have that lens style so places I'd be afraid to take my other cameras I dont even hesitate to pull this baby out for a photo op.

Bought the camera for snorkeling on vacation and just playing around the pool with the kids. It has worked flawlessly and takes pictures underwater just as good as out of the water. A great camera for the kids to use. It can be dropped, covered in sand, and abused. The battery takes about 2 hours to charge so I suggest buying a spare.

i really liked the feature of it being really durable, but after only its third use in the pool it leaked. i checked the usb and battery compartment and made sure it was closed. it still leaked. after, the lens fogged up and i thought it would be broken forever. i dried it out for a couple of days and it started working but it made a weird noise when taking pictures. i was scared to take it in the water again so called to get it repaired and they were very friendly. i think i was just the unlucky one to get a defective camera. but i cant wait to get it back cus it takes great sunset pictures and underwater pics!

I just took some great underwater photos of fish I had had hooked while fishing this weekend.
There are some blue lines on videos that generate from reflected light off water, or other bright light sources.
I've had some difficulty with the auto focus on some macro settings...
But... I really like having a camera I can get wet.
