The Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera offers users an ultra-compact digital camera that takes beautiful shots with the most advanced features and technology available - missing great shots is no longer an option. Combining a 12-Megapixel, 8th Generation Super CCD with a 5x wide angle optical zoom and a 2.7" high-resolution 230,000 pixel wide angle view LCD, the FinePix F100fd is a compact powerhouse that incorporates all the features users have come to expect from Fujifilm's more advanced digital cameras.

With the addition of Dual Image Stabilization, Face Detection 3.0 Technology with Automatic Red Eye Removal function, and ISO settings of up to ISO 12800 (3MB or smaller image), the F100fd takes compact digital cameras to the next level, arming users with a host of features and enabling them to take pictures never before possible.

The beautiful slim-line outer-shell is less than 24mm deep, making the camera extremely pocketable, with a design that reflects the sophisticated technology within. The enhanced 2.7" LCD screen incorporates Fujifilm's wide view filter thereby expanding the viewing angle by as much as 25 degrees compared to earlier models. The intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) system provides pop-up prompts to guide you through the menu, and makes the camera incredibly easy to use.

The FinePix F100fd also features a number of convenience features such as a dual memory card slot (which accepts the xD-Picture Card and the popular Secure Digital (SD) card format), a Dual Shot mode that takes two pictures with one press of the shutter button, and a total of 19 special scene position making the camera ideally suited to any photo opportunity. Furthermore, when a still image isn't sufficient, the camera's movie mode, captures movie clips with sound that are of broadcast quality.

12.0 Megapixel 1/1.6" Super CCD HR
The Finepix F100fd incorporates Fujifilm's 8th Generation Super CCD HR image sensor (featuring an octagonal pixel design), that allows you to capture superb highlights and shadow detail. The latest Super CCD is larger with a size of 1/1.6" and delivers exceptional image quality, accurate details, smooth and attractive skin tones, and true to life colors.
Fujinon 5x Wide Angle Zoom Lens
The 5x Wide Angle optical zoom aspherical Fujinon lens system incorporated into the FinePix F100fd provides high quality images with a focal length equivalent to 28 - 140mm. The wide angle capability of the lens makes capturing landscapes, architecture, or family and friends in big groups easier to fit into the frame, while the other end of this versatile zoom, brings your subject closer and clearer. The camera also has an 8.2x digital zoom that lets you get even closer with a combined zoom of over 40x.
RP (Real Photo) Processor III
The Double Noise Reduction System that is built into the RP Processor III accurately and thoroughly separates and eliminates noise from your images, and features advanced image processing technologies to create images with smooth color transitions and extended dynamic range for the best possible picture quality.
Dual Image Stabilization
The FinePix F100fd gives you the best of both worlds where image stabilization is concerned. With industry standard mechanical image stabilization, the photographer's hand is steadied for a clearer, blur free shot. Add to that the addition of Fujifilm's Picture Stabilization Technology, and increased clarity and sharpness is achieved, even in low light conditions or when shooting moving subjects. The combination of the two is the ultimate in stabilization technology.
High ISO Sensitivity
The FinePix F100fd and it's Super CCD HR provide incredible light sensitivity while maintaining low image noise and accurate color with up to ISO 3200 available at full resolution. Additionally the camera can provide astounding sensitivity capability at lower resolutions with up to ISO 6400 and ISO 12800 available at 3MP resolution. Now you can take natural light pictures under conditions where even human vision may have difficulty discerning the details.
Face Detection 3.0 with Automatic Red-Eye Removal
Face Detection 3.0 advances Face Detection technology to another level. By combining advanced Face Detection with advanced processing capabilities, Face Detection 3.0 delivers better recognition of faces, even at angles never able to be detected by previous systems. Additionally, Face Detection 3.0 allows for other useful features to be added such as Automatic Red-Eye Removal. Furthermore the latest Face Detection will recognize individual faces regardless of the angle to the camera lens, whether the subject is lying down, being shot from above or even upside-down, Face Detection 3.0 will find it and optimize focus and exposure for a perfect portrait.
Wide Dynamic Range
Originally developed for Fujifilm's S5Pro DSLR, the extreme dynamic range capability incorporated into the F100fd allows photographers to capture every nuance of highlight and shadow - even in high contrast scenes. Users may select from several settings to fine tune the dynamic range capability to suit the scene best so that users can capture detail and contrast like never before.
i-Flash Intelligent Flash Technology
Fujifilm's i-Flash system ensures that your image is always properly exposed with just the right amount of light, resulting in more natural looking subjects and backgrounds that are bright and full of crisp detail.
19 Pre-programmed Scene Modes
The FinePix F100fd has 19 different easy-to-use scene modes that are easily accessed using the intuitive wheel dial, so you'll always get the best possible image without having to make a lot of fine adjustments.
Beautiful design with "Slim Arc" Styling
The durable, all metal chassis provides greater durability than found with most ultra-compact cameras, and the graceful curves and sleek design not only molds to your hand for easy handling; the clean stylish look ensures that the camera will also be a fashionable accessory for a night out on the town.
Built-in Memory and Dual Media Slots

Plus the camera memory can be expanded to over 2GB with either xD-Picture card or the popular Secure Digital (SD) card and even higher capacities are possible with Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards.
2.7" High Resolution LCD Display

Furthermore, the high resolution display permits a more sophisticated Graphical User Interface (GUI) with unique features like the Micro Thumbnail view and detailed on-screen user assist functions.

I like to always have a camera with me - this one lives in my briefcase. I use it to document sites I visit, family events, and general photography. The photos are AWESOME - the Fuji SuperCCD is a great sensor - I've had a few Fuji's over the last 7 years, beginning with an S1. The wide zoom range is a big benefit. It is nice an compact - very easy to carry. My only negative comments are there's no optical viewfinder and it takes a "special" (non-AA) battery - that said, these "features" do yield a solid and compact camera. So far, I can live with not having an optical viewfinder and I'll just be sure to carry a spare battery.

I like having a "point and shoot" to supplement my DSLR.

I got the F100fd to replace my aging Finepix F30. But after 200 shots with the F100fd, I see I'll still be using the F30 for some shots - like interior flash shots.

The F100's flash is an underachiever, and the flash is just under the shutter button, so my shooting hand gets in the way if I don't remember to adjust for it. I've lost several shots because of the flash location.

I like the Dual IS mode for available light shots, but some color blotches appear in low-light situations. Blame a lot of junk in the blue channel in darker areas.

The noise reduction is aggressive, often mistaking detail for noise. It's not bad at ISO 200, marginal at ISO 400, and horrible at 800 and above.

I like the lens - 28mm on the wide end, very sharp, and outstanding depth of field. It's quite remarkable for a camera this size.

The 4-way controller on the back of the camera requires a delicate touch with its addition of a rotating ring. It makes it easy to select the wrong menu item.

Bottom line: it's great for outdoor shots, but I can't recommend it for interior shots unless the user is proficient in image editing / post processing. And forget about ISOs above 400.

I would strongly recommend that one get an extra battery, because battery life is MUCH shorter than the F30's.

It isn't as good as the F30, IMO. Too bad.....

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

I really like this camera. I bought it for a back-up since my Fuji D-SLR was a little to bulky to carry around for formal events. Imagine carrying this huge camera bag while wearing a pretty cocktail dress/ballgown.

At first, I was a tad bit disappointed since I thought that this did not fare well in low light or the night shots, but if you set it at the night vision and put the flash "on", the pictures come out great. The down arrow is the flash button on the side of the wheel. I also love the double picture feature - one with and one without a flash. this makes it easier to choose the better picture <- A big selling point.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

My SLR is bulky and I often want to have something small in my purse. A couple of years ago after reading several reviews I got the Fujifilm f31fd (after a couple of Canon cameras), but it got soaked in sodapop... To get a replacement, after reading through reviews, I again decided between Fujifilm and a Canon and due to the reviews on the light sensitivity I went for this camera.
I must say it is excellent in low light conditions, no flash needed - especially if you have a steady hand (like my husband) the pictures come out excellent. Setting the menu takes a little bit of getting used to, but all the manual override options you need are there such a WB, ISO, Flash settings, Face detection, color (chrome vs normal or B&W).

This is a good camera to take with you. Small enough, with much better than average picture quality. I bought it because DPREVIEW rated it very high. Works good in low light,
The menus aren't the easiest to use but are ok.

This is the second Finepix camera I've purchased. This one for my child, so I get to use one too. Despite the first one requiring two visits for repair (at our cost, because of "rough use") the quality of the photos is outstanding. The face recognition makes a huge difference in capturing, well, people's faces, which is reason we take so many pictures. [...]

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

This is an excellent compact digital camera to bring along when carrying a DSLR is too much of a hassle.

For a compact digital camera it produces wonderful images with true "Fuji" colors. The image stabilization seems to work well. Even at ISO 400 the image quality is very good with much less noise compared to other compact digital cameras on the market.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

I bring this camera everywhere, the wide zoom range and acceptable high iso performance makes it a good a everyday camera. The image quality up to iso 400 is decent, but at 800, the image definitely suffers and this is with the camera taking 6MP images. In addition, the manual functions are sorely lacking. However, with the $100 rebate, I believe this camera still offers the most bang for the buck from amongst all other options.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

I was looking for a point and click camera that allowed me to take sharp photos indoors. After doing some research, I found that this one was the best one for the purpose and after taking 300+ shots, I agree. I let the ISO level go all the way up to 1600 and the photo does not come out to be too grainy, and when I shrink them for blog usage, it's all smooth, so I'm happy. Of course, if you zoom into the photo, you'll see a lot of graininess, but when viewed 1:1 on a 15 inch monitor, the 1600 ISO image looks quite smooth, so the camera serves my purpose.

One con I would mention is the somewhat clunky user interface compared to the Canon series, but it's just an extra click or two, so the issue is somewhat minor.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

I am completely amazed and impressed by the quality of the images I have taken with this camera. The low light shots are amazing. I have taken lots of pictures that were of a very fast moving object that have turned out amazing. My favorite feature is the Portrait Enhancing mode, it makes faces appear so smooth, wrinkle free, and soft. It reminds me of portrait enhancing professional photographers do. I did a lot of research before buying this camera and in my opinion it is the best value for the money. I am so impressed with this camera, I love the size I am able to keep it in my purse so I can take it everywhere I go and not miss photo opportunities. I completely recommend this camera 100%.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

as the review for this camera at [...](holiday comparison-premier compacts) points out, *despite* a confusing interface, the f100fd is the thoroughbred of the field. Fuji has made the best digital photography ccds for at least the past four years. this chip is no exception. while small, it is bigger than the others in the space. add to that a broad and controllable dynamic range that none of the competition has.the f100fd also offers 5x optical zoom and 28mm wide angle lens--both which increase the cameras ability to capture more and better images in the moment.the weight and form-factor make the camera very portable. i use a nikon d200 and a sony cybershot dsc-v3. the both take great images, but i don't like carrying them. my wife has a canon powershot sd400 that's small enough to carry all of the time but it misses a lot of information because of its limited "glass."as for the fuchsia banding mentioned elsewhere, that problem was addressed with a firmware update (1.02). fujifilm could do a better job notifying the public of updates. on the other hand, some manufacturers never supply updates.one last thing: after rebate, this 12megapixal camera will cost you less than [$]

I had the f31fd, but was forced to upgrade when that one was stolen... Picture quality on this camera is great! Download speed to computer is fast. Only complaint would be battery does not last as long as it did on f31fd. Get a spare battery. You can charge the battery in the included external charger while using the second battery in the camera.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

I am a serious amatuer, semi-pro looking for a backup for my SLR rig. Researched led me to this model. Excellent sharpness, color rendition is a little on cold side at default settings (but can set for saturated.) Menu structure is not the easiest to understand but gets the job done. Overall, excellent street shooter, very low noise, actually useable up to 800 ISO, near SLR performance in metering, excellent handling of highlights with little white blow-out in image. Solid construction.Particulary with large rebate, cannot beat this little gem.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

i completely agree with the previous post about this camera being a "dud"...i read these reviews before i purchased this camera, but unfortunately that post had not yet been made. i have a fuji finepix that is about 3 years old & loved the camera so much that i decided to "upgrade" to this model. the aforementioned post is accurate in its description of the bright band at the left edge of the screen & the extreme noise in images when taking pictures in low light which is also the main reason i bought this camera. it drives me crazy & i am returning it. if you plan on using this camera with the flash on or in bright light only, it should function fine for you.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F100fd Digital Camera:

                Pros:
                * High quality photos.
                * Lots of features.
                * Good low light photos.
                * Neat night time 8 second exposure.
                * Browsing photos is fast.

                Cons:
                * It is very important to wear the wrist strap, since the large LCD is where you would want to grip it firmly in your left hand.
                * You have to switch it to sport mode to make sure that pictures with movement don't turn out blurry.
                * Some features don't work with other features, and it is not always obvious. For example, if you are taking an 8 second exposure, you have to be in night mode, and there is no adjustment of the ISO for light levels either automatically or manually.
                * It's hard to take full advantage of 12 megapixels. When you zoom in all the way, it isn't any clear
