The Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust) is a compact photo backpack that provides foam-padded protection and quick access to a digital or film SLR camera body with a lens up to 7" attached, 3-4 additional lenses, flash and accessories. The pack is fully padded with thick, closed-cell foam. A cinch strap keeps the camera in place while a large rain flap protects the main compartment zippers. It has a QuickClip tripod attachment system with vinyl reinforced mesh pocket, and a front accessory pocket with the Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify which memory cards and batteries are available and which ones are used up.
The 5273 has the EasyGrip handle, inner Windowpane-Mesh accessory pockets, and padded backpack harness. The bag can be fully customized using the M.A.S. Modular Accessory System and S.A.S. Strap Accessory System products.

Originally I purchased this item to store and transport my telescope eyepieces, camera and other accessories easily. I like to keep items together so in a pinch I can move everything outside easily without making unnecessary trips back and forth. This bag so far has lived up to it's reputation and other reviews. It is light and compact but allows to carry/store equipment. I am so impressed with this I am considering purchasing another for my Digital SLR to take on hikes through National Parks. This has enough room for the body and several lenses. If you don't use the tripod strap then no one should know you are carrying camera equipment.

I ended up returning the 5273 due to its small size. If you only have a couple of lenses, one camera body and virtually no other accessories, it might be perfect. For me, it was just way too small.

Comments about Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust):
Bought the Tamrac Exp 3 Backpack after looking for something small but with good capacity. The Expedition 3 offers very good padded protection for the camera and gear. The pack is a fairly recent purchase so I have not yet put it "through the ringer" to test it out.
My overall rating is 3.5 stars

i had this pack before, but gave it to my daughter, I thought I wanted a bigger one to put everything in. The big one was too heavy, so I bout this one again for myself. I think it is the right size for SLR.

Comments about Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust):
This bag is quite small but will comfortably hold 3 lenses and a compact SLR. It is very well padded and comfortable to carry. I'm happy with this purchase.
The only downside is that it can be a little difficult to open/close the zippers, but that is because of the extra cover that goes over the zipper track, for weather protection I'm guessing.

The backpack is less roomy as I inspected. But after some modifications, I can put in :
Canon 60D with mounted 50 mm lens, Canon 1000D (no lens), Canon 18-200 mm lens, Canon flash.
No so much space for accessories.

Comments about Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust):
The product is solid. However, it is on the small side for most digital SLRs. I purchased this one to store my D7000, but unlike my D40x, I wish I had gotten the Expedition 5.

Comments about Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust):
I love the bag, though it's a little smaller than I anticipated. I have the Canon 40D, a telephoto lens and a mid-sized lens, and they fill the bag up. Seems to be made for a smaller body. Thinking now that I should have gone for the next larger model, but really like the protection and features the product offers.

Comments about Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust):
This pack is the perfet size for my Nikon D50 with lens attatched, a macro lens, telephoto and two strobes. Because of its size, the bag is perfect to carry while hiking and is comfortable to wear for an extended period of time.
There are enough compartments to hold the various smaller acessories you need to accompany a DSLR such as memory cards, USB wires, chargers and manuals but not much else will fit.
If you are looking for an easy to carry camera bag that houses your equipment for a day trip then this is the bag for you.
The zippered compartments are a little stiff but that is really my only complaint about the backpack. Everything else is well constructed and I would recommend it highly.

Great small backpack specially for a woman.
It fits my DSL and my 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses and I still have space. Good for walking because is light, I love it.

I have truly enjoyed using this as my equipment/lens hauler. Very comfortable. My one complaint is zipping it up around the arched top. It's all stiff and can make it quite a pain to zip it up.

Comments about Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust):
As others have noted, this is a small backpack. I have a Canon 20D with an 75-300 lens and a lens hood and a few other small accessories. It pretty much takes up the whole backpack. If you have several (2 or more) longer lenses, buy a bigger size. If you only have a lens and a few other small items, this is for you. Love the color and it very lightweight.

Comments about Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust):
Very sturdy bag. I caught my 3 year old standing on top of it the other day with my camera inside and the camera was fine. In fact, the bag hardly budged under his 30 lbs. It's great for a camera and extra lens or so, but if you're expecting to carry all your stuff and multiple lenses, definitely get a bigger bag.
The only draw back to the back pack part is that I have to take it off completely to access my camera. But I've been very pleased with my purchase.

Comments about Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust):
I have been beating this bag up so to speak over the last two weeks while traveling on vacation and taking pics. The bag is well made and comfortable to haul around on an all day hike. You can "create your own compartments" on the inside so that everything fits to your specs and prevent equipment from bumping/moving around when you hike. I fit a K20D body, telephoto lens, small prime lens, loads of filters, and my food, wallet, and keys in there. Not room for much else, but all in all a great bag. Also strapped my tripod to the outside. I really like this bag.

Bought this backpack based on reviews and photos. I'm pleased with the purchase, but it was a bit smaller than anticipated. I'm able to carry the camera body with lens and two additional lenses in the main compartment, but not much more (one product picture suggested otherwise). All in all, a well made, quality bag.

Love the size and the various compartments, great for day and weekend trips. If you need to carry most of your gear, get something bigger.
Carrying a D80 with a 70-200mm lens consumes most of the capacity, only a very small lens will fit (e.g., 50mm). My fault that I didn't do a test fit...

Comments about Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 Backpack (Rust):
I use the bag when going to the beach or the DC Zoo. It is light weight and compact. I like that the inserts can be moved to fit different sized lenses. I also like that the bag looks like a normal book bag, disguising camera equipment. A downfall is if you attach a tripod, then it clearly looks like a camera bag.
