The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 Digital Camera is remarkable in that it contains a 10x wide-angle optical zoom lens in a compact, stylish body for the ultimate in picture performance and user convenience. With 9.0 effective megapixels of resolution for incredibly detailed images, and a wide-angle Leica DC lens (equivalent to 28 - 280mm on a 35mm film camera), this versatile camera is well suited to a broad range of shooting opportunities.
You can easily capture a large group of people, or expansive architectural structures and landscapes with the wide end of the zoom range, or zoom in for sports, wildlife and event photography. In addition, the Optical Image Stabilizer feature (Mega O.I.S) minimizes the jitter from shaky hands that causes many photos to look blurred, ensuring that your images are always beautifully clear.
The DMC-TZ5 is incredibly fast thanks to the Venus Engine IV processor, which provides fast consecutive shooting, and boasts outstanding response time thus enabling easy capture of spur-of-the-moment shots. The image processor also provides for efficient power consumption, contributing to the camera's ability to take 300 pictures on a single charge of the included lithium-ion battery. The camera also includes a huge, bright and high resolution 3.0" LCD display to easily frame and view your images.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 Digital Camera (Blue):
Like many of you, I also spent much time researching a good point and shoot. I like to get a new one every few years because the technology changes so fast. So far I'm very happy with this camera. Love the 3" LCD, it's very clear, pictures come out crystal clear, and is so easy to use. I also use Canon and Pentax cameras, and this one surpasses them on clarity of the picture. Very happy with this purchase.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 Digital Camera (Blue):
I bought this as a walkaround camera for when I don't feel like lugging my DSLR but want to capture great memories.
The camera does all it claims. Very comfortable to hold and easy to use. Focus is fast and it does a great job at its auto settings White Balance is generally on target and the produced colors are vivid and accurate. The 10x range makes this an excellent choice for an all-around pocket camera.
Low light operation is noisy as it is with all small CCD format cameras. But anything within the flash range (about 10 feet) is fine.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 Digital Camera (Blue):
I've bought a number of point and shoot digital camera over the years. I would have to say that this is the best one I've ever owned. It has a 10 power zoom lense, most only have 3 - 4 power. It is also very easy to operate and the pictures are outstanding. I have recommended this camera to a number of my friends.

Use for personal and family every day living.
Great wide angle lens... Excellent Intelligent Auto feature.
Pretty small for a 10x zoom... but you're not gonna be putting it in your pocket.
Mic for video wasn't that great. Flash recharge could have been faster...
and the screen goes black when it's charging.
I would have liked a quicker startup time.

An excellent camera. Superb lens with a great LCD screen. The only poor point is the limit of the flash, which I knew when I purchased it. I would without a doubt purchase it again if something happened to this one.

Am very happy with this camera. Use a Nikon Digital SLR for most photos, but wanted a small point and shoot for all occasions. This suits perfectly. Love the optics, the video, and so many great features packed into a little inexpensive camera.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 Digital Camera (Blue):
We perform home inspections and buy these cameras for our inspectors. Each inspector takes about 30,000 pictures a year with the cameras.
We find them easy to use. The key feature we like is the 10x optics lens which allows clear closeups of roofs, exteriors, chimneys, etc. We set the camera at 7 MB which gives us great resolution if we need to crop the picture or magnify it before placing it in a report to our clients.
The Lithium batteries typically last for about 200 pictures each. We used 2 GB memomry cards (bigger cards really slow the camera down). The cameras are mostly reliable (unfortunately, they occassionally get dropped) and have to operate in hot attics, dark basements, in light rain (we put them in a clear plastic diving bag), in winter and in summer.
We also like the large and bright LCD screens and the ability to magnify the picture right on the LCD while in the field.
We don't care for the auto close lens protector since it is somewhat unreliable over time. Sometimes it refuses to open, opens only partially or opens but won't close. It is easy enough to open manually but it can become annoying.
The camera has a number of preset scene scenarios you can select from to optimize picture taking in certain situations (sports, night scenes, etc.). You have 2 mechanical dial positions, scene 1 & scene 2, so it is easy to pick the best one for the work you are doing and go to it quickly if needed without finding it electronically.
In summary, quality is good (still has a metal case), the optics are great for a point and shoot, the LCD is large, bright and clear and the camera is reliable. It is not a substitute for a SLR but great for vacations, taking advantage of an unexpected picture opportunity and just ordinary snap shots.

This camera is wonderful - it takes great pictures in any setting. The telephoto is spectacular for a point and shoot digital camera, allowing for a very close zoom, like picking out one's child in a far away crowd at a graduation ceremony. The only thing to keep in mind is that the battery should be charged before you download your pictures. Highly recommended!

Daily casual shooter. This camera is super easy to use. The menus are clear and the scene modes are well explained. The LCD is great.
Takes fantastic "tourist" type photos of scenic vistas and people. Very sharp micro. The zoom is amazing if you need it.
The best thing about this camera is the wide angle lens.
Cons: lack of manual controls. Lack of Apperture or Shutter priority controls. It's a little bit too bulky for a shirt pocket. Also, the mic for video seems weak.
