LaCie has become known for the rugged portable hard drives they produce. This one is pretty good, though not the best one on the line. I use it as a backup for music and photographie files (I am a photographer). The drive does what it's supposed to to: store anything you want. In that respect any drive is as good as any other. The biggest disadvantage that this hard drive has is that if you use differnt OS (I use a mac and a pc) it will only let you allocate 20 gigs to one system and the rest to the other. Also, although the package included firewire cables, this drive is USB only.
Bottom line: this drive is pretty good if you are running on just one OS (preferably pc). If you want something a little more flexible and with firewire capabilities, look for more expensive LaCie drives.

So far so good
It is working so far but I just got it a month ago I am not sure how long the product will hold up.
The design is nice and "rugged"

Larger than most portable harddrives, but this not only looks great it delivers too. Incredibly hard wearing (has been thrown around my camera bag, car, and all manor of places), and easy to locate.......being very orange! As I shoot on location it is a great way to back up on the move.

I work for a location video production company. We use these drives to copy files from solid state media, such as Panasonic P2, and hand it off or ship it to the client. These drives are reliable, durable and low cost. Caveat: You will need a 7200rpm fire wire drive to actually play back and work on these files in P2CMS or a NLE application. This is a storage/backup drive, not a scratch drive.

At this point, the drive has been great. I've only had it for 3 weeks, but my editor has been able to move footage off of it easily. Software was easy to install. came with everythign i need. and it's TINY.

It would be difficult to be happier with this product. I use this drive for backup and extra storage when in the field or work to home. It is light and easy to pack. I got it to have a device that would handle the vibration of travel. It has turned out to be more rugged than I expected. I have never dropped a hard drive before and did not think it would ever be an issue as I am every careful with equipment. I have had this knocked to the ground twice now, from about 4 feet to a hard floor surface, and it continues to run without problem (I'm trying to be extra careful to not repeat this incident).

Just plug this into a USB port and you're ready to go. I transfer all kinds of files with this... psd, avi, wmv, mpg, jpg... they all transfer well and I haven't had a problem yet. Small enough I can put it in a coat pocket.

I will be using this little HD for storage in the field. After shooting all day I sort on my laptop in the evening and download to the Lacie HD for back up storage. So far I can give this product a 10 out of 10. Works great.

Easy to use ... plug and play! Using it to back up lots of pictures and lap top. Small size easy to transport. Rugged so you don't have to worry too much about it. I have not put that to the test! Have not had any issues.

Comments about LaCie 320GB Rugged All-Terrain USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive:
The HD is very Sturdy and you don't feel like it's going to break if you for some reason dropped it. The cables are all in the box so you just plug and go and it's copy over rate is very fast. I did about 17 GB of data in a matter of a couple hours. The Orange casing is pretty cool looking too, very contemporary and techy design. I haven't found anything to be wrong with this product yet. Everyone knows that Lacie is a number one awesome product for external hard drives. I did my research and this seemed the most reasonably priced, sturdiest and a reliable piece of equipment. I really feel safe with all of my data backed up on this product. : )

i had a different brand hard drive before and it was heavy and annoying, but this one is great. it's very light and easy to bring everywhere with you. and it doesn't need to be plugged into a wall which is so convenient. i've also heard lacie is the best kind of hard drive.
