I have 2 of these sets and they work perfect in my studio and on location shoots. The light, color, and exposure is dead on every single shot. Having 2 transmitters is very useful since I often have a second shooter, or just to keep in my pocket for controlling the lights when I am at the computer shooting products tethered.

Very nice sudio strobes. Perfect white flash color temperatures. But I ended up returning this to upgrade for the Elinchrom 1200rx/600rx combo, which would be much more versatile. 1200rx is needed to overpower the sun outdoors, while the 600rx has a much shorter flash duration to freeze action. These will work great on location with the "Tronix Explorer XT SE" portable battery. I also considered the Elinchrom Rangers, but they costs much more, and could not be individually controlled f-stops for 2 lampheads. These are pro level, while the BXRi500's are not.

Great studio strobe with a spot on color temp. Love the skyport! This is durable enough even if it is plastic.

After reading, researching and evaluating between Alienbees and Elinchrom, I find that Eli (even though much expensive) is well worth the price. I need something to use indoor and outdoor without having to purchased different system and still be usable against full day sun. I also looked at quadras as it's great outdoor, this is more watts/buck and still be great indoor.

Portraiture, with total control at the camera of power settings for each strobe. More than enough light for a group of 15-20. You can just keep shooting as the recycle time is so quick there is almost no delay.

[...] These units are plastic, and I'm not talking about some super strong space age compound either. They feel flimsy, cheap. Not what one would expect in a "professional" unit.So far they've popped every time, but then I haven't used them for very long. I was warned the Skyports are not very reliable when the battery starts to weaken so purchase a second or third battery as back up. You'll be glad you did. Another issue is the poorly designed method of attaching an umbrella. To slid the shaft of the umbrella in place you must loosen the same ratchet that tilts the head. AWKWARD! Besides that it doesn't work very well. Like so many, I wish I had spent a bit more money and bought Profoto. No doubt I will at some point, probably soon.

The first thing you need to know about Elinchrom is that the company offers no customer support. There is a place to register on their website and I've tried twice: they have my email address and this has been confirmed by they have not sent me a confirmation that would allow me to communicate with anyone in the company.
The second thing you need to know is that the Skyport triggers are unreliable.
The third thing you need to know is that the interface for the software that allows you to control the units (essential in a monolight where the heads are inaccessible on tall stands or booms) is an abomination.
These things work but I curse them every day and within hours of firing them up I began to regret not spending the money for Profoto units.

These lights are great. Compact and easy to use, set up and the skyport works great. The only complaint I have is the size of hole for the umbrella... Its absurd that Elinchrom to do that.

I must say I agree with the first reviewer in that, the exterior build on these Elinchrom's, leave much to be desired. I purchased four of these. I also have four Photogenics, four White Lightnings, and four Alien Bees. Now Elinchroms emit a great light, and shot to shot they will be more consistent than any of the others, but I am talking about the EXTERIOR construction. The PL1250 Photogenics, are miles ahead in there outer construction, so to are the White Lightnings. In fact, the Alien Bees have a better more "solid" feel to them than the Elinchroms. Even the accessory fittings on two of them is NOT smooth. If I had been in the store, and could have handled them, I would have forked over the extra money for Bron. As mentioned above though, the light they emit is great and consistent, and in photography, THAT is what is important.

I'll try to make this quick...I switched from a Dynalite pack and head system and while I had several people tell me that going back to monoblocs was a downgrade, I have been convinced otherwise.
Dynalites in a small scale lack versatility. If you have the money for a pack for each head or say, three packs for four heads, they're amazing. However, as a semi-pro who only does this on the side, I do not.
I must say the skyports are awesome as well. I strongly recommend the USB control as you can control every head from your laptop. Insanely useful when you have one up on a boom. The wireless triggering is reliable and I've thus far had zero misfires out of a couple thousand frames.
So the good: Huge range. Very consistent output and color - Far better than any other monobloc I've ever used and consistent with the Profoto D1 series. Great reflector selection - I have the very wide umbrella reflectors and the 8.25" and while they're large, they are perfect with a grid.
The bad: the construction leaves a bit to be desired. I understand these have a metal chassis with a plastic shell, they still feel a little cheap (this is the place where these don't measure up to the Profoto line). The fan grille is split on the seam and I feel like by putting pressure on it it may crack. It would be just replacing the shell and it's not structural, but still...
All in all, the good far outweighs the bad. They pack well (4 heads, reflectors, cables, speedrings etc. in a Pelican 1650 case w/ dividers). They also don't weigh too much so sticking them up on a boom with a 5' octodome is not a problem.

These are great lights, very solidly built. They are solid gray colored and I didn't find that they were cheaply made as some have written. They provide wonderful light exposure to exposure. I love the fact I can control the lights with the skyport system. I've been involved in photography for many years, primarily candids, and travel photography. I am a newbie when it comes to studio photography but, decided to buy better lights so I don' have to buy again. I learned this from Scott Kelby's Online Training. I am very happy with this set. I wish it came with the case though!!! I will eventually buy a third strobe when I become more proficient.

Comments about Elinchrom Digital Style Combo 600RX Two Monolight Kit with EL Skyport (120VAC):
I owned Hensels in the past and they were fine lights. The Elinchroms are just that much better. Their build quality is high, the Skyport remote system works flawlessly and fit into their own dedicated sockets in the rear of the monolights. The newer RXi units have them built in however.
The fan runs loud, but keeps the units appropriately cool and you can just shoot and shoot. Extremely fast recycle times. I've used them to light up a dark wrestling gym and they worked perfectly.
The control pad is wel thought out.
The swivel and attachment point is strong and built to last.
One improvement they could make is something to lock the Skyport transmitter into the hotshoe. Also, the dip switches for changing frequencies is just so '90s. That really needs to be updated. It's all too easy to leave the unit on as there are no LEDs to indicate it is on, and the side slide switch can also be moved without meaning to.
The speedring attachment points sometimes make it difficult to completely attach all three points, but I'm new at it so I'm sure I'll get the hand of it.

I've owned Hensel monolights but find the Elinchrom better. Can't put my finger on why though. These lights are very well built and easy to use. The skyports on the other hand have proved to be less than reliable. Also not sure why. At times standing no more than two feet from the light it just won't fire time and again. I have it on the correct group. Had I realized that, I would have just relied on my Pocket Wizards.
Purchased a large Rotalux softbox. Beautiful quality product also.

IF you are using a smaller studio, these are probably too bright. I found the lowest I could shot was f8 at 125 and ISO 200. These go down to 18ws which is nice, but still not low enough if you are shooting in a small space. The build quality is nice and the skyport makes it really easy to adjust the lights from the camera. Make sure you get a light meter so you can have an accurate exposure.
