Great for monitoring to HD or standard def on NTSC monitor. Realtime up-down conversion of multiple formats is flawless. Only thing missing is an RS422 connection to control decks with timecode.

Comments about Matrox MXO2 External Video I/O for PC/Mac:
I've just added this to my Final Cut Studio system to allow me to use non-firewire VTRs for I/O in both SD and HD formats. The range of input/output options it supports is impressive, although I haven't yet had the opportunity to test them all. I compared it with similar products from [...] and found it to a very good value. Its ability to work with both a MacPro tower or a MacBook Pro laptop was a big plus. My biggest concern prior to purchase was how reliable it would be compared to the others [...]In the few weeks I've had it, it has worked perfectly. I did have one installation issue, however. The PCIe board that came with it was dead on arrival. Matrox customer service was excellent however, and sent me a replacement board right away. They have been very quick and responsive to all my inquiries. Their 3 year warranty with free technical support is reassuring, too.My only wish would be that the MXO2 would work independently as a bidirectional signal converter (component to SDI, for example) as does the BMD Multibridge Eclipse. MXO2 only seems to output signals when controlled by Final Cut.
