Picpac works fine, and was forewarned about the fragile connection pins with CF cards. So I was VERY careful when inserting cards. Nevertheless one easily bent pin turned this into a small external drive only. Don't know if others (Epson, Jobo, etc) are built better, but you usually get what you pay for.

As advertised, the PicPac accepts most any storage card format. It loads swiftly and precisely into the PicPac and from there via USB port into a computer. We were pleased to find that the unit also loads computer files back into the portable unit and facilitates taking large files to other systems.

We did feel some improvement was needed in documentation. The unit comes with a very small format user manual. Fortunately, one may go to the web site for a full size ( 8.5X11 inch) version that is easily printed. We recommend this. In either version, the user manual is a bit skimpy in a couple of essential areas. We never have fully understood the involved discussion of files to be set up on the PicPac. In use, we managed to reduce the number of sub-folders, thereby speeding up access of stored data. The User Manual also refers to the unit as 'Wolverine'and 'PicPac', which is confusing to a first user. At points, one has the urge to call out, "Make up your mind."

We also found it a bit scary when our first use left the computer unable to turn off. As a guess, we would suppose there is some intelock that protects the stored PicPac data from unintended deletion, but it sure is alarming to find your computer won't turn off. Going through 'Safely Remove Hardware' on the computer task bar will take care of the problem, but the PicPac User Manual really should be clearer in this area.

In summary, this unit meets a pressing need in digital photography. It is rechargeable, easily loaded and unloaded and even comes with a full set of cables and a convenient belt case. It should save its cost quickly as an offset to lost memory cards. Yes, we recommend it to friends as one of the most useful data tools we've seen.

I had a 40 gb model that never failed me - then I upgraded to this one. It has a confusing interface - displaying all sorts of confusing data on the screen when trying to back up my camera cards and now when I try to copy my 10 gb of data down to the pc, it goes into sleep mode after 5 minutes. I am having to do EACH folder separately to keep it awake.

Am going on an African safari in two days. Had purchased and was mailed this unit. Used it once down loaded pics, went to use for the second time and it failed to perform. Sent it back for refund and was sent another. New one works fine after a few trial runs. I am new to all this and could have been opperator error, but new one is fine.

Not wanting to carry a laptop everywhere, I discovered this great tool that fits in my pocket. After weeks of high-resolution shooting (30,000 jpeg images) I still had room to store a backup of my traveling companion's shots.

Best alternative use I have is to pass it around at a special occasion (wedding, etc) and have everyone backup their images on it. This consolidates the photos and makes a backup before anything can happen to the cards.

This is my second drive from Wolverine - the first one was a 40 gb drive and had a much better, more useful case that fit on my belt. The new protective case (this model, 320 gb) is just a bag to protect from scratches.
