I had purchase a cheap wide angle lens for my HF100 and was disappointed with all the extra artifacts I'd get on sunny days. Plus, I wasn't able to use the zoom without getting image degradation.
I then bought the WD-H37C II, and what a difference. This lens looks great, but it sure is BIG. I had heard others mention it's weight and they were right. This thing weighs almost as much as the camera. But, if you need great quality then this is the lens to get.
Oh, and zooming, no problem.
I do not like how it interferes with the built-in lights on the camera, so it looks like I'll have to add the hot-shoe-mounted light.

When I purchased the Canon HF11, I was quite disappointed with the maximum wide angle. I shoot a lot of video indoors with children that love to come up close - the standard wide angle wasn't enough.
The lens definitely helps that situation.
I like the sharpness and build quality.
I do not like the weight (it is almost as heavy as the camera), focus speed (it appears to block the "instant" AF mechanism - if you zoom in too quick, it gets confused), mounting (more so the HF11 filter mount is cheap - it is hard to thread on). On a more minor note, I don't like the color - my camera is black, but the lens is silver.
Overall, I would buy it again because it helps me get the picture I want without constantly backing up. However, I don't think the Canon cameras have really been designed with wide angle in mind (e.g. why would you block the instant AF mech?, the filter mount is cheap and I am not confident it will hold up to repeat mounts/unmounts).

Very Clear lens for my camcorder. It opens up the view for indoor video very well and helps in tight spots. Goes on and off easily. No distortion from the videos I and photos I have taken.

Comments about Canon WD-H37 II 37mm Wide Angle Conversion Lens:
The glass is very sharp and typical good Canon quality. It produces great video throughout the zoom range and autofocus had no issues. I would highly recommend this lens. This lens is not plastic and in my opinion it feels of nice construction and weight. I leave it on my camera all the time as it works so well.

Lens has no visible distortion at the periphery.
Given the narrow field width for the Canon HD
Camcorder, this should have been included with
the camcorder. At least Canon offered this
nice upgrade for a fairly reasonable price.

I bought this lens for my camera canon HF-100. Converter is wonderful! No visible distortion, and reduce the aperture I saw. Operates as if it is not, but just the camera magically become wider angle of capture. In general, the wonderful and necessary thing. Everybody is very recommend. Canon as always on top!

Little edge chromatic aberation and some barrel distortion, but that's to be expected. VERY well constructed. Wish it had filter threads! One thing's for sure- it really IS needed- cameras seldom go this wide.

Comments about Canon WD-H37 II 37mm Wide Angle Conversion Lens:
Its a bit heavy, but for a lens, that means quality glass. Great picture with no distortion around the edges. A little more expensive than other brands, but with Canon you get what you pay for. Would rather it be black to match my HF21 camera but its not a big deal. Love the images. Macro ability is amazing. Saw a Sony lens on the same camera, but it didn't shoot as well as the Canon lens.

This is a very useful product. It's amazing for HD cameras. My favorite thing about this is that it doesn't seem like it zooms too much so that it's hard to watch videos, like fisheye lense. One bad thing about it is that is makes a sun flare, but that happens with every wide angle lens.

I am glad I bought this lens. It is very solid construction. I have used it a number of times already in tight spaces and it really helps. I got a no-name 0.7x before and the internals of the lens showed up in the picture under certain zoom conditions. This Canon model just works.
Unfortunately, because it is so short and heavy on the larger end, it takes real care to keep it threading straight on the 37mm thread.

I'm a small-time producer of art and music-related videos and I love this Canon lens. Though the spec is 37 mm it does not produce a noticeable wide-angle effect. It simply achieves a great balance in pov with my HF-100.
The lens is a bit heavy, which doesn't bother me.
It looks cool and pro and I like that!

Comments about Canon WD-H37 II 37mm Wide Angle Conversion Lens:
No doubt about it; 5 star quality! By the time you arrive at this quality, you're within $20 of this lens, and the money is well spent considering Canon will optimize for use with their lenses, coatings, and auto-focus. I am pleased to report that the "II" version has a transparent black anodizing over the usual frosted silver, for an overall matte grey finish. One star removed for the $20 and for not being black.

Comments about Canon WD-H37 II 37mm Wide Angle Conversion Lens:
The wide angle lens enables me to get closer to my subjects, mostly my children, when I video-tape them.I have not noticed any drop in the quality of the images. The silver color seemed a little odd at first, but I am used to a black camcorder with a silver lens. The lens cover semms to be snug and secure.
It does add a little to the weight of the camcorder, but that is expected.

Comments about Canon WD-H37 II 37mm Wide Angle Conversion Lens:
I have used the cheaper wide angle lenses for my canon camcorders in the past but I was never really happy with the results or the versatility when zooming. While some of the cheaper lenses will get fuzzy when zoomed in or crop the corners when zoomed all the way out this lens cover the full zoom range with perfect clarity. This is a wide angle lens, so you do get a bit of the fisheye effect when zoomed all the way out but that is too be expected. Invest in this lens and you will get a whole new appreciation for you camcorder! Also gives any consumer camcorder that indie feel since this lens is BIG! much larger that the camera.

The lens adapter allows one to shoot fishing videos inside a boat. It provides wide angle capability that should have been designed into the zoom lens on the camera in the first place. Distortion is not a problem.

Comments about Canon WD-H37 II 37mm Wide Angle Conversion Lens:
This lens made a big big difference recently when I shot some cheerleader competition action. Without it, there was no way I was going to be able capture everything without panning and moving. But with it on, I was able to setup underneath the judges' table for a very unique (according to the cheer coaches) angle without missing the action. The slight curvature of the lens on the edges actually added to the effect, giving me a smooth, curved ceiling of lights - looked very cool.
I would use this mainly indoors whenever you want to capture more in a large hall from a stationary position, or whenever you are in tight quarters and moving around. Not really worth it for outdoor shooting, in my opinion.

Comments about Canon WD-H37 II 37mm Wide Angle Conversion Lens:
Excellent clarity even at full zoom. My wife actually thinks the picture is sharper. Canon failed to give a wide enough lens for indoors or anything within 25 ft with their standard lens.(ie:Parties, Car shows) This add on greatly improves a good camera in the Vixia HF M31 making it much more versatile. Only shortcomings are the lack of filter threads, color mismatch with current cameras, and it's slightly heavy weight. [...] I am very happy with this purchase. I only wish it was less expensive, but sooooo much better than any after market converter. You will miss so much in your videos without this item.

I own a Canon VIXIA HG20. I like it because it does full HD and is small and compact. Whenever I would shoot in a small rooms, I would have to leave the camera in the one of the corners, on a tripod and let the scene run through, until I could check to that everything stayed in frame. with this wide angle conversion lens I can be behind the camera and get everything in frame and sometimes I have to zoom in. Thanks to B&H photo video I got it at an inexpensive price, [...]
