Perfect for the Pro freelancer who may be seeing fewer clients in these difficult economic times. The specs on this scanner for the price are excellent. My old scanner broke but I had a job of scanning 90 slides for an artist and well just didn't have the money for new equipment.
At 600 dpi for a final image size of 6x8 this scanner will do 4 slides in 9 minutes. Not great but for the price not bad! The software is also fine for most but if your pro you probably already have your own anyway. I have had the scanner for a month now and all and all I'm very satisfied.

I bought this unit because of my faith in Epson products. I was shocked when after only a dozen scans, it broke down. The repair facility tested the unit and said a circuit or some other part burned out. I am extremely careful with my equipment and did not abuse this scanner in anyway. There was no power surge or spike. Nothing was out of the ordinary. It simply burned out in 2 months . I used it only once in a while. I previously owned a Canon with the same price and it lasted for years and years. The only reason I had to get a new scanner is because the drivers were not available to go with my new Mac.

Lightweight and easy to use, does most anything that much higher priced scanners do.

Comments about Epson Perfection V300 Photo Flatbed Scanner:
I had to scan old slides and some photos. The photo part wasn't difficult at all. The slides were. The software has a learning curve - big time! There is a learning curve to this slide scanning, however. I had some slides that were long length-wise, but others were square, so the square ones were being cut off. I don't know how I resolved anything, but I just kept messing with it and it worked... I did eventually google the issue and found that by unchecking "thumbnail" it seemed to help the problem. Otherwise, the scans and photos both came out very nice.

Comments about Epson Perfection V300 Photo Flatbed Scanner:
My family wanted to scan some old 35mm color slides to turn into photobooks. I have used the Epson V300 slide attachment to scan about 200 slides. Each batch of 4 slides took about 4 minutes at a low resolution. The quality was good and the jpeg format is useful for many book publishing websites. The only concern I had was figuring out which scan mode was the easiest for my needs. Overall, I am happy with the product and would recommend it for digitizing 35mm slides on a Mac. Just make sure you get the dust off since it will scan that too!

Great product! Great Price! This scanner is everything and more that I wanted it to be. I have a ton of old 35 mm half-frame slides and it handles them so well. Now I can view long-forgotten photos. The scanner was easy to set up and easy to use. Highly Recommended!

Scanning photos is easy and quick. So far the photo restoration doesn't seem to do a great job but that could be operator error.

I bought this unit specifically to scan a few decades' accumulation of slides. The dedicated slide scanner I'd used in the past doesn't work with my newer iMac, so I did the research, read the reviews, and decided to give this one a try. The results have been very satisfactory; I've scanned 350 slides in the past few days and am very satisfied.
I haven't tried, so can't comment on, the different modes, dust removal feature, etc. I am not a pro, so can't comment on the relative merits of other scanners's bit depth, resolution, etc., but as a serious amateur, this is a fine machine for the money.

I found this to be a good entry level scanner for my purposes. I am mostly using it to scan film and have not tested the flat scanning ability yet. The scanning software that is bundled with the scanner is decent compared to more professional offering such as vuescan or silverfast.

Comments about Epson Perfection V300 Photo Flatbed Scanner:
My wife bought me the Perfection V300 so I could scan some of the hundreds of old color slides we have and go through literally thousands of B&W negatives. I've had the unit for about two weeks and it's been terrific. Images come out looking sharp and bright.
Installing the software was a snap. Download the users guide and keep it on your desktop -- will answer all of your questions. The learning curve on scanning the slides was very easy. It takes about 3 1/2 minutes to scan four slides at a time. Not fast, not slow. About what I expected. The color correction feature works well. I had several real old slides that had turned a reddish-orange, and when I hit the button to resore the color, they came out looking almost new.
I've been just as pleased with the V300's ability to transform B&W negatives into positive images. The process is a bit different, but very easy.
For the price, I have nothing for praise for this piece of equipment.

If you are looking to archive slides, photo negatives and related print matter, this scanner does a great job. The price is right for your wallet in these days of slow job growth, so you will not take a beaten. B&H is always good for point of sale pricing and competitive.
The only negative is loading the scanner software.

I bought this scanner to review slides and create image files suitable for small prints. Even though it was a little difficult to learn how to use (the instructions are of little use for advanced settings), I was able to create higher quality images than expected after a little experimenting. Definitely worth the price.

Comments about Epson Perfection V300 Photo Flatbed Scanner:
I purchased the V300 scanner simply to scan all my Polaroids and old film photos in order to own a digital copy for preservation. The V300 is simple to use with a touch of a button and it allows you to scan multiple images at a time. The scanner will automatically detect the different images and save them separately. Another neat feature is the ability to preview the scan for rotation before you actually scan it and save it. All in all, the scanner is great for its value. I would only wish that it scans a bit faster than my expectation. It takes about 30 seconds to scan each image.

It very quickly scanns your photo. I am a Mac user and have no problems with the scanner. In one evening, I scanned over a 100 pictures. I selected the color enhancing button and it really gave great color to 30 year old photoes that have turned red in color. It removed the red and gave the photo color where it needed to be. I scanned pictrues from the 1930's and they turned out great too!

I have had scanners before but never nothing like
this scanner. My wife and I have been married for
51 years this June 25, many of our pictures of the wedding and trip we took were on 35mm film. We took them out one day to look at them and found out many had faded so we could not tell what they were. When we received the scanner and started to use it, many of those pictures came to life. Overall rating, I give it a 10.
Thank you.

I use this flatbed scanner to scan b/w 8x10's from the darkroom. It does a great job for me. It's low-profile, relatively quiet and fast! It also scans negatives and slides -- it automatically detects the frames on a strip of negs and divides them into separate images. Also it automatically converts them to positives (color, too) with fairly good results! Great deal with the recent EPSON rebate this macine was about $75!

I have this scanner working in a Windows XP pro VM doing OCR work and it's great. It also works with the Avasys Linux drivers in my regular machine. I would recommend this scanner to any Linux user. I will also look at Epson printers when the HP finally goes.

I don't use a scanner often and I just switched from an 8 year old WinXP computer to a MacBook Pro with both Win7 and OS-X, so I'm still figuring everything out. I do wish there was a hard copy users manual, but I know that would add to the cost.
It is somewhat odd to me that the scanner picture shows it longer than it is wide, but the plugs are then at the front of the right side, rather than on the back. If you place the scanner so that it's wider than it is long, the printed pictures and label are sideways. Just a bit odd. If I can, I will add to this review as I use the scanner more.
I have only used it twice and it was fine.

Bought this to scan old pictures. There's a little bit too much dead space around the edges, and you have to be careful about picking the crop (the cropping will affect the automatic exposure). But overall a good value the produces good results.
