The Canon EOS 5D Mark II improves upon the EOS 5D by increasing the resolution by about 40% to 21.1 Megapixels and adds a Live View feature that allows users to preview shots on the cameras High resolution 3.0" LCD display. It even incorporates the ability to record full motion HD Video with sound, so you can capture the action as well as superb images.
The camera's 21.1Mp, Full frame 35mm-format (24x36mm) CMOS sensor captures image files with incredible image quality and color accuracy, and can capture JPEG, RAW and RAW+JPEG files. The camera also incorporates Canon's acclaimed DIGIC 4 imaging processor that works in concert with a high-speed DDR-SDRAM buffer to ensure quick performance and fast image processing times. Performance enhancements enabled by the DIGIC 4 processor include an incredibly fast full-resolution frame rate of up to 3.9 fps, improved battery life, noticeably improved image quality at all ISO sensitivities, fast start-up and reaction times, and improved noise suppression at ISO sensitivities ranging from ISO 100 to ISO 6400, plus the cameras sensitivity is further expandable to a range of ISO 50 to ISO 25600.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II incorporates a high-fidelity (920,000 dot) 3" LCD screen and includes a 'Live View' feature that permits the user to frame their shots on the LCD display, and adds framing functions that are not possible with a traditional SLR viewfinder including the ability to zoom in and navigate the preview image to ensure proper focus, and a grid overlay to assist in proper composition. The Live View focusing system also enables focus modes such as Quick mode, Live mode and Face Detection Live mode. Furthermore, the Live View Feature enables HD video recording that can capture true HD-quality (1080p) video at a frame rate of 30 fps with Face Detection and sound.
The magnesium-alloy chassis of the EOS 5D Mark II ensures the durability of the camera so users can take it on safari or to a press junket and be assured that the camera can take it. In addition the camera body incorporates extensive dust and weatherproofing features including seals and gaskets where body panels and/or camera controls meet. To further keep the imaging sensor free from dust, Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning System uses ultrasonic vibrations to shake dust particles off of the sensor's low-pass filter each time you power up (or manually when needed); this ensures that your images will be spot free and reduces time needed for image retouching.
Other professional quality features found on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II include 14-bit A/D conversion, a bright viewfinder (with 98% image coverage), Auto Light Optimizer, Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction, 9-point AF plus 6-point assist AF, 25 Custom Functions with 71 settings, and 5 metering modes (35-Zone EV, 8% Partial Spot, 3.5% Spot, Center-Weighted, and Pre-Flash E-TTL II). Altogether, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II has been designed to serve the needs and interests of serious enthusiasts as well as professional photographers who are in pursuit of the perfect image.

Coming from a 50D, this is such a nice step up in High ISO performance. With some help from Lightroom 3 the ISO 3200 files are totally usable and even 6400 in a pinch. Certainly, for personal memories, 6400 is totally usable, creating vast options for very lowlight use.
Plus the camera is a bit more rugged....it feels great in the hand.
With the 24-105 I'm finding it very quick to acquire focus, even in low light. I've read some gripes about the autofocus system but they don't exist for me. Perhaps because I'm used to the nine points from the 50D, this performs wonderfully to me. Even the outer points.
I may be wishfully thinking, but I could swear there's a greater tonal range in my images. I'm not a scientific type, so this is by impression and "feel"....not testing here.
All in all, this is money really well spent. The camera is an absolute pleasure to use! I'm looking forward to pairing it with some primes down the road...

Very good image quality, low noise, and light. Very slow comparing to my 1ds ii in focusing and shutter lag. Video is handy but features are lacking. The 9 point focus points just aren't enough for me. That's why I returned it and got the 7d as my back up camera in adding to my 1ds ii which I'm still in love with after so many years. Its body feels plastic also. If you have the patience, I would wait for a mark iii which should have improvement on focus point and video feature, or even speed...

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
By now you must know how revolutionary it is, and it's now not so expensive due to the Mark III's arrival, but... it's heavy, it can be difficult to get crisply focused video unless you are used to it and have a sharp eye and getting a magnifying loop for the viewfinder is definitely recommended, since there is no autofocus (you can autofocus it ahead of time in camera mode, but you need to monitor it carefully), cannot monitor sound as it is going.
I'm happy with it, although I wish I had the Mark III - just too expensive now, but if you have the means, it just seems incredible. Mark II is hardly shabby though. The colors! The low light capability!!

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
I worked with a Rebel XSi for a few years before deciding to upgrade to the 5D Mark II. When I first took it out of the box, I panicked a bit because it's considerably heavier and a little larger than my old camera, and I worried whether I'd still find it easy to carry this camera around as much as I used to. It took a couple days to get over it, but now it feels completely comfortable and the old camera feels like a little toy. This is the real deal. I've taken this camera with me on a number of different trips and it hasn't let me down. Be warned that it will feel very different from one of the entry level SLR cameras, but that's because it's not one.
Best features:
- I find it handles ISO up to about 2500 before noise starts to become problematic. Unfortunately if you put ISO into "auto", it will go up to 3200 and there's no way to apply a maximum limit.
- Numerous functional capabilities beyond what the entry level cameras offer
- Full frame sensor gives a wider field of view for a given focal length, which can always be cropped in post-processing to give the same image as a cropped sensor camera if desired.
- This kit lens is a great lens, offering very sharp images, with only minor loss of sharpness when wide open or near the edge of its focal length range. The f/4 max aperture leaves a little to be desired in low light, but the camera makes up for this somewhat with better ISO range.
A few things to be aware of:
- There is no built-in flash, so you will need to buy a separate one.
- This camera only uses CompactFlash memory cards, which are much more expensive than SDHC and not as widely compatible.
- The shutter release is a three prong design and will not be compatible with many of the lower end cameras.
Overall, an excellent purchase, and has given me a LOT of excellent images to be proud of. I wouldn't recommend this as a first SLR camera unless price is really of no concern for you, but for anyone who feels like they're outgrowing their camera, this is a great option.

As a semi-pro photographer, buying this camera was a tremendous upgrade from my previous one, a Rebel XTi. It's incredible how far you can go with this state-of-the-art equipment. Great sensibility in low light conditions, faster shutter speeds and the full frame sensor is just amazing with the wide angle lenses.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
We're using this camera to create super hi-res images of 200-300 year old historic documents. This camera body (and full size sensor) along with the F/1.4 50 mm lens is a perfect combination for this work. The clarity and image details are super and the ease of use and extensive online documentation (not so much from the manufacturer) make this a great choice in the price range. Also, now using the camera with the 24-105 mm F/4 lens for basic architectural shoots, landscapes, etc. Again, easy to use and understand (if you already know something about photography) and great integration with various computer software systems for image management and modifications. The move between the field and the lab is simple and quick to reset for use in either place.

This is my first full frame DSLR. I also own a 7D which is terrific for action photography, but I was wanting the 5D Mark II for landscape photography. I am really enjoying the wide angle shots I can get with this camera.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
I do love my Mark 5D ii... I use it for weddings, children, families etc. The only thing that would make it better is if the kit lens had a lower f stop on it. F4 is okay, but it would have been nice to have something lower for weddings and indoor photography. When you spend near 3 Grand on a camera you don't always have another 2 Grand to spend on the lens you need to get by. Don't get me wrong... The kit lens is pretty nice, but it would have been better if it was something I wasn't going to have to upgrade right away for my work.

This camera is undoubtedly an amzing piece of technology. I have used the 5D mark ii for everything from portraits, landscapes, nature, travel, concerts etc. and it has performed flawlessly everytime. The only thing I wish I would have known before buying, is that it doesnt Auto-focus when in live view. The 7D and new mark iii does, however.

First I want to thank the management of B & H, I live in Colombia and from here I did the whole transaction, apart from the camera to purchase other equipment, pre-processing, sale and after sale was very safe. Communication through a special chat directly gave me confidence for my money depositarles from Colombia, without intermediaries.Wing On camera I'm happy, I work with documentary photography, and I was doing work in the Brazilian Amazon and there I carried my 5d mark II, the camera has responded with a high performance with all the elements of the forest, moisture, heat, cold, I use not the kit lens very good indeed, was helpful in every occasion, apart from a 50 mm 1.8 for some shots.Battery performance was outstanding as expected, cards of 16 GB Transcend 600x, reliability and speed, image quality very high, at no time presented me a camera warning sign. In photography everything I expected, though I had my reservations because the Amazon is an endurance test for any camera that is good, but I think this camera exceeded my expectations. Regarding video I did some interviews using a system of external audio amplification (Beachtek DXA-SLR) and a mic rode ntg-2, the sound very clean and perfect video signal. Those who want to buy this camera do it.

I just recently bought this camera and I've taken over 200 photos already and I feel like I haven't even scratch the surface on its potential! I love the live viewing, I'm a little shorter than some at 5'6" and it makes it nice to click on and reach over everyone's head for a shot that will actually have the subject in the photo. I think that the lens that came with the camera is a great lens for any time shooting! Haven't really got the hang of taken video but with time I know that it will be easy enough. Not much I don't like about the camera so far so I'm not going to say that there is anything so in other words great camera and I can't wait to take it out and really start shooting landscapes and more!!!

What else can I say that the other glowing reviews haven't? The jump from APC format to full frame is incredible. Detailed images, sharp color and nice bokeh for an f/4 lens. Better than the results I would get with the 17-40 f/4L on an APC sensor.

Build qualty of this camera is very good. Compared to my Nikon D300S the resolution and high ISO Performance is stellar and a major improvement. I like the versatilty of RAW file formats However dynamic range Using RAW is good but not significantlty better than the DX Nikon, In low light the Camera excells with usable shots up to 3200 ISO.
The 24-105 is a good general purpose kit lens; Its extremly sharp; but the F4 max aperture is a limitation as bokeh can look harsh compaered to some lenses I have owned.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
It is an excellent camera, especially for a phothograph euthusiast. However, the 24-105mm lens came with the camera does not provide enough zoom for long range shooting, and the camera does not have a build-in flash light which limits the use in the use indoor and night or deem light. So, I suggest to buy a long-range lens and a flash light to solve this problem. We are still testing the feature of this camera, however, we like this product so far.
In addition, the camera we received from B&H is a Canadian product. The company indicated it should be a US product with US warranty. I do not know whether the product we had now will still be covered.
