The (Rust) 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack from Tamrac is a 600 denier PolyTek backpack with thick, closed-cell foam lining for shock and vibration protection. The Dual Access System allows fast access to the equipment through a side door; when the pack is worn over one shoulder or through the front panel when the pack is removed. For weather protection, the side door is equipped with a water-resistant zipper while the front panel has a weather flap.
The 3385 has a foam padded bottom photo compartment that holds and protects a digital SLR camera with a grip and lens attached (including most 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lenses), 2-3 additional lenses and accessories. The large top compartment can hold personal items, such as a lunch or a light jacket. There is also a separate, foam-padded laptop compartment that holds most 17" screen laptops. The side door accessory pockets hold memory cards and lens caps, and there is an elasticized mesh side pocket that provides convenient access to a water bottle. The backpack is carried by an EasyGrip padded carrying handle and a comfortable, foam-padded, contoured harness that spreads the weight of the camera gear across the shoulders.

As frequent flier, I badly needed a bag that provided quick and easy access to a well protected pro DSLR camera with lens attached(24-70 2.8), laptop, various other lenses and gadgets. I spent WAY too much time researching bags and even ordered one and sent it back. Finally I came across this bag, the only bag to meet all my criteria.
Most importantly, this bag is perfect for the frequent-flyer. You can access the camera with the lens on it w/o having to set the bag down. You can easily slide the bag under the seat in front of you or put it in overhead compartment. I have got a d300 with grip, a 10.5mm 2.8, a 18-200mm 3.5-5.6, a 85mm 1.4, a nodal ninja 5 in its case, 14" laptop, chargers, cables, remotes, etc.. all in this pack easily.

The side (quick access) to the camera is what sold me on this product. The side access is works great if you don't have a full size or a DSLR with a battery grip. Although it technically does fit my Canon 50D w/ battery grip, there is no use for side access due to the opening being too small. You have to be really careful taking it out from the side because the camera's hot shoe can rip the backpack's interior because of the tight opening. Aside from that, the backpack has good and strong construction. Although the overall backpack seams too big for me, it does fit really comfortable on the back and the shoulder. I'll be returning this within the next few days. I'll still give it a 2 star because of the excellent quality, but Tamrac shouldn't advertised the side access to work with full size DSLR or DSLR with battery grip (per Tamrac's website).

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):
Yes this is a big packpack, but that was what I was looking for. I was looking for a backpack that would allow me to carry my Canon Rebel with my Canon 400mm 5.6 with lens attached and easy access. Its a little tight, but works great none the less. The day after I got it, I took it out on a four hour backpack trip into the badlands. Carried the long lens attached plus 70-300, and 17-50 along with extra windbreaker, gloves, snacks, etc. All fit well. I would have given this product a five star, if it would have had a sternum strap. I wound up making my own for it with no problem. This pack carried well in rough terrain. It was great to be able to take all the equipment I needed along.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):
I use this when i travel for my 17" MacbookPro and a Nikon D200. it works great, is very protective of the gear and is comfortable to wear. This pack gets HEAVY when fully loaded, but it does cary everything all in one place. My only complaint is that while the pack is big enough to hold my Nikor 70-200 it will only do so with the lens attached to the camera. This means that every time i put the camera back in the bag i must attach it to the large lens, and put the smaller lenses in their respective holders. This becomes very inconvenient whn i'm using a smaller lens and just want to put my camera away temporarily without switching the lens.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):
Overall this is an excellent pack for travelling with your photo gear. I'm an amateur and only have 2 lens' for my Nikon 3100 but this pack was great for recent international travel. It fit under the airplane seats, holds extra's in the top compartment and fit my laptop well. I only have 2 small issues with the pack, there is no waist clip to ease the weight off the shoulder and the pack is on the slightly heavy side and needs some dryfit material on the inside so it is does not get so hot carrying the pack for excessive amount of time. I'm very pleased with the purchase!

This bag works great but I feel like it is a little bulky for how little it holds. I wish the top compartment was a little larger. Other than that I really like it and love the side compartment for easy camera use.

If I do not carry my gear correctly, I get a pain in the neck so distributing the weight correctly is essential.
The zipper is a bit difficult at the corners.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):
Use this pack to store my entire kit. Take it on long hikes.
My gear seems cushioned and protected. Laptop compartment is well sealed and spacious. Top storage compartment is very large as well. Quick access panel is just good enough to work, not as convenient as my former sling style bag, but probably as good as could be expected. It fits my 5D plus RRS L bracket attached, probably would be too tight of a fit for a battery grip attached.
Only a few let downs. The straps are average. Well constructed, but slightly thin considering what this bag is built to hold.
Also, no loops on the outside for attaching a tripod or other gear. I bought some velcro straps and tethered my tripod to the handle grip on the top of the bag. Works well enough.
Bag feels stiff and boxy, but actually looks natural and not like a camera bag at first glance. I definitely am happy I bought it, and I would buy it again.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):
I had been looking at this product since the first time my friend showed me her 3380. While the 3385 is a bit pricey, it has a lot of great features. I really wish it had more compartments though (I love storage areas, you simply can't have enough), also some compartments need better security; the pouches on the quick access camera flap for example. These are only secured by a tiny piece of Velcro. I was going to put extra SD memory in them, but figured they would fall out the first time I opened the flap. Also, when it's set up for comfort on anything other than a short trek, it's not as easy to access your camera from the quick access flap as they advertise. All complaining aside, I do like the Tamrac 3385 and I'm sure I will use the heck out of it.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):
I can use the backpack for both my SLR and Digital cameras with lenses, filters, self-winder, and on camera flash attachments because there is room to put them in here. I can get to each camera with relative ease while on my hikes due to the adjustable Velcroe, although it sometimes gets in the way. The outside pockets have been a bit of a nuisance due to their small capacity. I absolutely love the laptop compartment and compartment on top to use when on a trip and for going through the airport. No more taking the computer out. All in all this is a terrific system.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):
I travel for business and pleasure. Usually have a carry-on roller and a carry-on backpack. Needed backpack to handle and protect a DSLR + lenses, a laptop, and still get some other stuff in the bag. Really wanted dual access for easy access to the camera with the bag on the shoulder. The Tamrac 3385 does it all for me. Very flexible divider system allows over/under storage of long lenses in the middle tube. It is pretty deep at the base and a little heavier then I expected, but works great and distributes the load well. Left side shoulder strap can interfere with side access, takes a little getting used to. A more breathable back would be nice.

This product was recommended by someone who has a similar bag. Although I have not used it for its intended purpose as our trip begins in a few days, I can say the product description is reliable. The side pocket will come in handy for quick response to a photo opp. My 15" laptop fits perfectly and the space above the camera/lens storage compartment will accomodate my medium format camera and film. I selected the rust color and am happy with it.
More to come once I put it to use.

I used the pack pack during a trip to DC and it delivered as promised. This is a quality back pack that is comfortable to were. Only issue the camera "slot" is made for a larger body camera and when using my SLR it had lots of room to move around. That slot should be adjustable.

BIG DRAWBACK IS THE STIFF FRAME AROUND THE OPENINGS. THIS STIFF FRAME MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO PLACE MY 5D WITH GRIP AND 70-200 ZOOM LENS IN THE DESIRED LOCATION THROUGH THE TOP OR SIDE ENTRANCES. ONCE IN THE BACKPACK IT FITS WELL AND ALLOWS TWO OTHER LENSES, FLASH, AND OTHER USEFUL ITEMS TO BE STORED IN THE CAMERA AREA. THE DIVIDERS ADJUST TO ALLOW SETUP FOR YOUR NEEDS. THE UPPER POCKETS DIVIDER CAN BE REMOVED TO ADD MORE STORAGE FOR LARGER/WIDER ITEMS IN THE LOWER COMPARTMENT.

I love my new backpack in it can put everything I need when i'm shooting. I love the easy and fast access to my camera. Plenty of room for accessories such as lenses, charger, filters and much more. Now I can take my laptop with me and not axed for it if it will be damaged during my trip.
Most I like is zipper, very high quality solution with rubber protection from outdoor conditions.
Great deal!
