I did a lot of research before I found this laptop. I need a little laptop for travel, browsing web, doing some email.Since the moment I switched it on I have been super impressed. Why?- Very nice non-glare screen (most netbooks have these annoying glossy screens)- Small but keyboard w/o compromises- As fast as any netbook- The fist ever touch pad I can actually use (I hate touch pads). This touch pad has amazing capabilities (multi touch) that make working on this machine so much easier. For example two finger slide is same as pgup/pgdn. Various other helpful combinations.- Asus software is very good. Power management very good and upgrade BIOS over internet is very simple.- Very good sound.- It actually looks very good. Very nice finish (with little sparkles in the finish). Looks much better than my $3000 high end notebook :-)- OS prep is very easy. It's basically a almost vanilla sysprepped image. - Almost no cr*pware on it. It comes with Norton Anti-virus that tricks you in thinking you have a licence. Ignore and uninstall Norton and install Avast antivirus (free but one of the best)- Windows XP Home does a very good job. Runs good on 1GB of memory.Compared to the many netbooks I compared this with this is the cheapest. I think it is also the best (spec-wise). If you want very long battery life then go for the 1000HE. But that model has the glossy screen and is quite a bit more expensive. I think 5 hours battery life is good for most purposes.I'm so glad I researched and bit and did not compromise on must have features (non-glare, good touch pad, good kb, decent battery life). Thank you ASUS! [...]

This little netbook is so small and light and fast, and the battery lasts much longer than I normally get from laptops. I have no complaints about it.

I recently purchased this little machine and am very satisfied with it. The wifi is great and it's so portable! I'm a screenwriter and use it mainly for word processing; so with the 170 gigs of storage, I can pretty much use this forever. It came with Windows XP but was very easy for me to modify it with some other vendor programs that I prefer to some of the Windows ones. The only grumble I have with it so far is that the shiny black exterior is a fingerprint magnet...but it did come with a little soft cloth for that, which is great! I really love this little guy.

My last laptop died on me and I needed to find an affordable alternative to hold me over the rest of the school year ... and this cost a fraction of what it would have to repair my other laptop.
Pros
* small size (if that's what you want)
* decent size hard drive at 160gb
* about 3-5 hours battery life, even with brightness turned up and using the net
Cons
* no dvd/cd drive, but iso's and usb memory makes for a decent workaround if you have another drive somewhere else

Comments about ASUS Eee PC 900HA Netbook Computer (Shiny Black):
This netbook size is perfect. I thought long and hard between the 8.9 or 10 and I'm glad this is the one I settled on. The processing speed is great (I upgraded it to 2 Gig because I am using for photo processing, but it was good with only 1 Gig). I pretty much agree with all the positive comments already said.
This thing is the perfect companion for a photographer. I also looked at storage devices, but this gives you so much more function compared to those things, plus larger viewing screen.
Running ACDSee Pro is no problem. For some programs you need to switch to 1280-768 and compress the screen or scroll the screen. (So far, I do this only to import for ACDSee).
The bottom line, for the price this is the perfect little machine for my photography and mobile wi-fi internet needs.

Comments about ASUS Eee PC 900HA Netbook Computer (Shiny Black):
I use this product to run my Canon 5D camera using the remote capture software and live view - it works extremely well and is very convenient as it is so small. I also use it to transfer images off my camera when out and about. It's also very useful for image editing when I'm away from the office - not as fast as my iMac but it runs Photoshop CS4 pretty well. Runs the internet and Open Office like a dream. Screen quality is excellent - has been profiled using the Spyder 2 Pro and the colour and clarity is excellent for such a small screen. I can also plug an external LCD monitor into it no problem - currently runs my ASUS 24-inch LCD without any drama.
You sacrifice a CD/DVD drive but external one can be added for a very small cost.
Bluetooth not available but hey I can live without that.
Wireless internet performance is pretty good so far. Have used at university on the public network there with good results. Blisteringly fast at home when near the base unit.
Fits in my crumpler bag with ease and is light as a feather. Battery life is pretty good, getting about 3 hours at max performance setting which is OK for me..
A great little package for the price - highly recommended for portable multimedia use.

Drive plenty big but would have preferred they had not formatted it into 2 virtual C and D drives. Transferred all the SW CD's I wanted to load onto a USB drive and loaded MS-Office, Photoshop, etc that way. Plan to upgrade to a 2Gig ram for a bit more speed, but even without-not bad. Wasn't sure about the 9 inch screen before I got unit, but is adequate. Came with a nice little padded storage sleeve. Getting about 4 hours on the battery - better than the 3 cell machines out there. Brought up a movie on Netflix- seemed fine (as long as you use headphones for the sound)

After much research I chose the ASUS 900HA over similar offerings. This is a very well built device that delivers exactly what it says it will, a comprimise between portability and usability. Anybody that listed Cons about its small keyboard or lack of Optical Drive have only themselves to blame if thay are dissatisfied, a cursory review of the spec should have told you everything you needed to know.

To its size represent a very useful and complete pc. It can do everything that a bigger machine does. My EEE became my personal agenda, side by side with me at everywhere. Although, the keyboard doesn’t have Brazilian special keys for Portuguese configuration.

Comments about ASUS Eee PC 900HA Netbook Computer (Shiny Black):
I received this netbook in a timely fashion.
Upon opening it, I immediately noticed its very very portable size, which pleased me, seeing as I was first drawn to purchase it for its portability.
The battery life is excellent. Over 4 hours of juice is appreciated indeed.
I was also quite amazed with the processor speed of the Intel Atom. The execution and quickness of response were much better than what I was expecting from it.
Aide from performance, I was impressed with its graphics card, which rendered more than suitable visuals and colors. This was especially noticeable when watching videos on the net.
As for storage, 160Gb is very ample to keep records of all kinds of documents, files, and media.
I really appreciate the 3 USB hubs, which is equivalent or maybe even more than other full size laptops!
The only low points are the size of the keyboard, which makes it somewhat challenging to type at a high pace wihtout making typos (but you do get used to this fairly quickly) and the absence of a cd-rom drive. But hey, we wanted portability... A few features need to be sacrificed...
A great machine for simple executions, easy to work and to carry. Quite an impressive little piece of technology.
Thank you ASUS!

Comments about ASUS Eee PC 900HA Netbook Computer (Shiny Black):
I was not sure what to expect about this netbook. The overwhelming majority of the reviews were positive, but you never really know about a product until you try it yourself. I am amazed.
I immediately loaded Kubuntu onto mine because I wanted to give Linux a try, so I cannot speak on the Windows XP that came loaded on it. This is not a fast computer, but neither is it slow. Kubuntu does some pretty advanced visual effects which this computer handles with ease.
It can play non-HD videos while surfing the web and checking e-mail.
I have another laptop with a 9 cell battery, but I get as much or more battery life out of this laptop with a 4 cell.
The keyboard here is very small and I agree with other reviews I've read that it takes about two days to get used to the smaller size. I used the keyboard on my other laptop recently, and it felt so big! It seems like some of the keys are more sensitive than others. I'll lightly tap the "e" key and get five or six e's, but I sometimes have to hit "enter" more than once to get it to register.
The sound system is good for what it is. Music is quite tolerable through the built in speakers.
This computer's only shortcomings are in the graphics department. Do not attempt to play games on this computer, you will be disappointed. I can play Hover!, a game designed for Windows 95, but even it is sluggish. There is a VGA-out port, but my experience is that it is useless. I plugged in an external monitor and got a picture, but only on part of the screen. I think what happened is that the computer set itself to 1024x768 resolution, but because the built-in screen is only 1024x600, it cut off the bottom 128 lines for both displays. Remember though, I use Linux, one's experience with Windows may be different because of display drivers.

I'm a limo driver. I installed some GPS software so I use this instead of a dashboard mounted GPS. I need to figure out how to tweak the settings to make sure it never, ever goes to sleep because once it goes to sleep it won't wake up and you need to push the power button and hold it in until it powers down. I also use it for email and web browsing. I refuse to buy any laptop other than one with WINDOWS XP pre-installed, so that limited me to about only 10% of all laptops out there. I wanted the biggest bang for the buck and screen size was unimportant. Even though I never heard of the brand name ASUS, I decided to go with this because the CPU 1.6, 1 G installed memory, 160 G hard drive, [...]. It beat out the Acer (a brand I had heard of) Aspire One because it was 30 bucks less and it has a much bigger hard drive. I make frequent typos because the keyboard is a little small and the the 'enter' key is where the'shift' key is supposed to be. It comes with a carrying case already, so you don't have to buy one separately. Unfortunately Asus does not manufacture a DC converter for this machine to plug it in to your automobile's cigarette lighter. Neither does b&h. I had to go to [...]to buy an adapter and I hope it doesn't fry my machine.
