The Joby Gorillapod Focus is an ultra-versatile mini-tripod (or grip) that was designed for use with large pro SLR cameras with large zoom lens attached, or with prosumer level camcorders (max. load capacity of 11 lbs/5kg). The Gorillapod Focus allows you to achieve the stability of a standard tripod, but at a fraction of the size and weight. The three multi-segmented flexible legs can be formed to grip almost any protrusion, be it a branch, doorknob, rock, or uneven surface.
Its sockets are machined from sturdy aluminum, with anodized gunmetal finish. Each of the joints can bend and rotate 360°, to wrap around objects. The bottom rubber segment on the legs is larger to allow it to be used in the traditional way.

I bought this along with the ballhead mount and attempted to wrap it around a bicycle frame to support my 5D Markii with 24-70mm zoom (well within the gorillapod's weight range). One of the pod's legs broke in half as I was attaching it- and I swear I wasn't being too rough! Then, when I was tightening the ballhead to the pod the screw snapped in half. I returned this junk for a full refund immediately.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus - Flexible Mini-Tripod:
I really like the durable design. I have been using it with my AF100 and G2 for video and photography. It is a little harder to use it on severely awkward surfaces with the AF100 because the camera is heavier than a DSL, but I was pretty surprised at how well it actually holds up. I bought the 492LCD Micro Ball Head to use with this and it is a great combination, just make sure you buy an adapter as well like the Pearstone 1/4-20 F to SHOE MOUNT F ADAPTER - PEAFF1420. The only complaint that I have is that when using with an adapter to mount the little Manfrotto tripod head, the screw doesn't screw in very far to the 1/4" adapter. This worries me a little bit because I have an expensive camera sitting on top of it. But if you're screwing it directly into a camera, it screws in plenty far enough and seems to be durable.

Handy little tripod for those hard to reach places. The build is very solid and the legs are very versatile. The item shipped without the 3/8 adapter but the manufacturer sent me the piece in the mail free of charge!

Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus - Flexible Mini-Tripod:
I boutght because a normal size tripod or a monopod is too big for me to carry all day long visiting museums, buildings ...
But this gorillapod focus is perfect, it fits into my camera bag or a normal backpad perfectly. And it isn`t too heavy. Is possible to buy the gorillapod ballhead but if you are used to oder brand is a the perfect choice too. And in BH is no so expensive than in other countries.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus - Flexible Mini-Tripod:
I have only used this as a tabletop tripod on a handful of ocassions so far. I am glad I finally purchased a tripod of some sort. It has helped a great deal to be able to include myself in the pictures with others without having to ask someone else to take them for me.
This is extremely sturdy, I have no fear that it will handle my gear (Nikon D90 + 18-200mm) and future larger lenses without any problems. The only con to it is that it is so sturdy that it is a little difficult to manipulate the legs when trying to wrap it around anything. I understand that for the weight it will need to handle that's a good thing, however I will need to workout to strengthen my hands in order to contort the legs. Other than that I have enjoyed the purchase.

My primary use is for videotaping sporting events. With the Gorillapod I am able to hang my camera from above on a piece of lightweight PVC pipe. The Gorillapod wraps securely around the pipe and provides me with complete overhead views of the action. It is lightweight and fits snuggly into my camera bag. I give it my highest recommendation.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus - Flexible Mini-Tripod:
I purchased this mainly as a stand for my zoom h4n for field recording while shooting DSLR video. I purchased the Focus so I would have the ability to also use as a tripod for my 60D for backcountry situations where a regular tripod might not be the best choice.
I was very pleased with the build and feel of the focus, and surprised to find it also worked as a makeshift shoulder rig for handheld shooting while spending a week in the BWCA wilderness of northern minnesota.
I initially purchased without the optional ball head, but will be picking one up ASAP. Also plan to attach a manfrotto plate adapter so I can rapidly swap between my real tripod and this. Overall very satisfied with my purchase.

Seems to be really well thought out, strong product.
I have read the reviews about them breaking ,I wonder if some are pushing the limits a bit. Maybe a Super Clamp would suit yours needs better if you wanted to attach a camera to a bycyle etc.
This for me at least does not replace a full tripod but is a great compromise when weight is an issue.

I shoot video - HV40 with Raynox HD6600pro52 and with DSLRs, also shoot stills with large teles and slow shutter speeds. It's perfect for all the above.
This pod is sturdy and does it all, and it's NOT heavy. I've had none of the issues listed in other reviews, I don't understand users saying it's difficult to bend back into shape for storage. Takes me 2 seconds and it's back in the bag, EXCELLENT for travel.
A huge plus is I use this to get super steady footage while shooting high action video hand held. I also use as quick shoulder/body mount and also will hold cam upside down in tracking shots and low level close-ups, like a steadicam. I recommend getting the BallHead X also, even if you wish to use your own head mounts

Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus - Flexible Mini-Tripod:
I use this with my D7000 w/grip and lens as heavy as the 70-200 f2.8. I mounted a Manfrotto 498 head on top. It does a nice job in supporting, it can get a little tricky with extreme tilting up or down. Careful manuvering of the legs can usually fix this. I haven't tried mounting the legs around in any precarious positions just yet, but as a typical tripod it works well and is good for travel. Overall, I like it.

More then enough to hold my Sony a560 with flash and Minolta 70-210mm lens attached. For what I was wanting it is perfect. I have not tried wrapping it around a tree limb yet, but I think it would hold the weight of my camera there too (not sure with flash and long zoom though)

I use it with some Canon EOS. It supports quite well a 7d with a 70-200 mm zoom lens. Useful for guerilla-filmaking kind of work.
