The Canon LA-DC58K Lens Adapter allows users to add the TC-DC58D Teleconverter to the Canon Powershot G10, G11, and G12 digital cameras. The adapter can be taken apart into a front and back component, but both parts are required for use with the teleconverter lens.
Note! Although the adapter has 58mm threads, attaching a 58mm filter might cause vignetting.

I purchased the LA-DC58K Lens Adaptor along with the 1.4X Canon Converter Lens to which it mates. I ran several tests of the combination adaptor and converter lens and the converter alone with filters.
I like to travel with my Canon G10 to keep the photography equipment space small in my luggage and for the light weight when I do a lot of walking.
ADVANTAGES OF LA-DC58K
1) Obviously you must have it in order to mount the 1.4X Canon converter lens to the G10.
2) I found it easy and fast to fit a 58mm polarizer lens. I just need to be careful not to extend the zoom all the way so the G10 zoom lens avoid crashing into the filter. But, I usually use filters at low tele magnification.
3) I was able to mount my COKIN graduated neutral density filter holder and to use those filters to tame HDR, especially bright sky over darker terrain. The LCD illumination needs to be boosted up if in bright sunlight.
4) I think the adaptor - when pressed against glass - will serve to eliminate reflection issues as when shooting in aquariums or night shots through windows.
DISADVANTAGES
1) I wish the fit of the adaptor to camera was more snug with less slop. The fit does not seem to affect my photos but it is aesthetically not so "Canon".
2) Why oh why wasn't this adaptor just a wee bit longer in order to avoid risk of zoom lens crashing into filters?
3) seems like a lot of money for a basic piece of threaded plastic pipe. But, whaddya gonna do? No other options.
4) This has to do with the 1.4X converter lens that mates to this adaptor. I sure wish that converter was a 2X or a 2.5X.

This adapter makes it nearly impossible to use a polarizer with a G10. With both pieces a 58mm polarizer vignettes badly. BAD design. So It's only use is for a teleconverter. If you want it for filters don't waste your money, but the one from lensmate.

Comments about Canon LA-DC58K Lens Adapter:
This lens adapter in itself is fine. However, I forgot that the Viewfinder on the Canon G12 is not a "tru the lens viewfinder" but a fake one that is at the top of the cmaera. Hence when you attach this Lens Adapter, mostly what you now see through the viewfinder is this Lens Adapter!!!
However it works OK with the viewing screen.
I think Canon should have warned its customers about this irritation.

Comments about Canon LA-DC58K Lens Adapter:
I bought this to hold a 58mm polarizing filter. Yes, this filter does vignette badly at the wide angle setting and you need to be careful at the telephoto setting as well. Other comments I have read complain about the lack of a "great fit" on the camera. They are essentially correct. I can't say at this point that I am thrilled with this purchase but I may change my tune if I see more objective evidence in terms of better pictures. The jury is out, I guess.

Comments about Canon LA-DC58K Lens Adapter:
Pretty disappointed to find that the adapter vignettes the lens at anything between 28/30mm or so. I'm using it on a G11 to hold a Cokin P adapter and some graduated ND filters and even without anything mounted to the adapter it blackens the corners of the frame at the lens's widest setting. I would only recommend this to a friend with the aforementioned caveat.

[...] this product will not allow you to use wide-angle on the G10/11. This adapter should have a clear notice on the box that it is useless for wide-angle shooting - better yet it should be discontinued.

Comments about Canon LA-DC58K Lens Adapter:
Bought this to experiment with filters on the G10; It turns out that it made a great secondary hand hold for weaning myself from an SLR, in addition to be used for trying out various filters. It works great, and the filter experiments were a success especially with the Deep Red to simulate IR effect.

A must for using filters. You must remember to remove the front half of adapter when using at the camera at wide angle.

Comments about Canon LA-DC58K Lens Adapter:
Unfortunately I read unfavorable reviews from other sources after I purchased the lens adapter and decided to return this item and the two filters I purchased with it. Two issues...the canon lens adapter is two pieces of plastic with plastic tabs that affix to the camera that I felt would easily break, second and most of all the reviews indicated that the fully extended lens hits certain filters attached to the adapter and causes vignetting....poor design.

Comments about Canon LA-DC58K Lens Adapter:
I use the adapter for filters and protecting the lens. The adapter comes in two pieces (screws together) You have to take it apart to use it with wide angle it vignetts. Not convient when going from wide to tele.
